This course is in as good of shape as it has ever been. The greens are especially nice now - they've obviously been working on them. The tee boxes look like they were just redone and I noticed that some of the tee boxes that were a bit tilted/humped have been leveled. Fairways are good, with a few thin areas on some holes. But it also looks like they're working hard on those, too.
San Juan Hills is one of the best public course values in Orange County. The course layout is cool and they clearly get a lot done with the budget they have. The staff has always been great and it's always a pleasant experience.
My only small gripe is that they should have some more active marshals on the course on weekends. Sometimes a group will bog down and slow down play for everybody, but often there don't seem to be any marshals out there keeping things moving.

Tee'd off with lotrgolfer48 a little after 9am which was earlier than out scheduled tee time. POP was great the whole day. Had a great time. I must mention we played 2 for 1 on green fee's/cart. For the rack rate, i wouldn't play here.

Tee boxes were in good/fair condition

Fairways were in good condition, some bare spots but still good IMO.

Rough, well the kikuyu kicked my butt. That stuff is sometimes hard to get the ball going where I wanted. However the rest of the rough was in just fine shape.

Greens! They were in great shape and rolled quite well. Almost too well because some putts went TOO far passed the hole!!!

43 bucks Monday morning. Definitely worth the green fee.

Greens were running fast. The practice putting green is a good representation of the speed.

Fairways were about fair/good. Some bare spots but it looks like they are in the process of regrowing. Saw Greenskeeper spreading fertilizer on the tee boxes.

Finished in 4 hours.

Tip - If you book on golfnow, remember to bring a printed out copy. One of the few courses that like to see a printed copy.

No sharks thrashing around on Hole 12 tee box (if you read the news you'll know what that means)

Played Sunday twilight, $50 w/cart. POP nice at 4:15 which was surprising, maybe cuz of Ryder Cup Sunday (thx, DVR). Greens were great: speedy and true, just too many unrepaired (and poorly repaired) ball marks. Had mostly good lies in the fairways but there are some bare patches here and there, same with the rough which is playable cut at 1-2". Bunkers I was in were okay, one not raked at all with small shoe prints all over ... hmmm. Pro shop staff and marshall were great, attentive and aware what was happening on the course. Two weeks before the greens are aerated, might be a good choice and internet deals are available.

Played 8/6 at 2:15 in the afternoon. Everything between the tee boxes and greens was in at least above average shape. Rough was lush and playable and the fairways looked great (but I was rarely in them). Green side bunkers were fried egg heaven and I feel there is just too much sand in them. Greens had great speed, but people need to fix ball marks. It was absolutely ridiculous how many divots were in the greens (Pretty sure I fixed 20 on #16 alone). The tee boxes were aggravatingly tilted one way or another with heavy divot damage on the par 3s. Despite some of the conditions, $23 is an AMAZING price to play here in the afternoon and their 19th hole is hard to beat. I most definitely will be back.

Course first Nine holes mostly uphill green. Nice layout. Second Nine Holes look like they forgot to renovate, going through houses between holes. Course condition was good except most of the tee boxes are not level. Practice range is away from from the course, half a block other side. Give additional 30 minutes time before your round to warm up. $75 on weekends with cart and with this course layout and condition(Back Nine is not worth the price) ... I will choose other courses in OC.

Played today 5/26 at 3:50. Course was in good shape overall. Tee boxes were awful, never a level lie. Fairways were good, sometimes thin, rough was fine. Sand traps were wet, I know it might be because of the recent rain. Greens were inconsistent, bumpy, they cut the hole placement in odd spots on the greens that were usually on sever slopes. Overall it was worth the $24 we paid to play w/ cart, but I wouldn't play it for the prime time day rates over $40.
