Over the years this track has had its up and downs with different owners. With the current owners, John Hendrick Head Pro and Ray Ricardo running the shop its been fantastic. This is only course where I've actually seen the course superintendant on the course making sure it's all dialed in. I am fortunate that I can afford to play most any course in O.C. and I choose San Juan Hills because the staff is unrivaled in accomodating me and my guests and I'll put the course conditions up against any in the O.C.

I took advantage of a C4TT special on Monday to play this course. I had not played here in two years but in the past ten years I cannot recall the greens playing so fast. They are in great shape and I could not control my putting speed after leaving approaches short. Tee boxes are back to normal and the overall condition of the course is in very good condition. I think the course condition compares to some that ask twice the green fees in Orange County. Kudos to the course superintendent!

They are trying to get the tee boxes fixed up so all the tees on the back [and probably the front] are pushed all the way to the very front of the box. [Reds/Whites/Blues all stacked up]

These areas are getting pretty beat up but I think it is a small price to pay once a year to get the tee boxes in good shape after the long summer.

Here is your chance to get a crack at San Juan with the easiest tee placements ever. Didn't help me any, still found all the usual trouble - had fun though. Greens are in great shape, fairways are just fine with a few patches that they are working on.

Always a good value and great service here. The starter told me about a tournament next sunday so the early morning back 9 wont be available on the 29th - I appreciate that heads up, it's always a drag to show up for a round and 200 groups are lined up in front of you - saved me a panicked rush to Shorecliffs!

Have played this course many, many times but not for the past year until today. It's in the worst shape I've seen. Greens fine, but fairways and tee boxes just awful. Fairways patchy and soggy, same with the tee boxes. It looks like something has killed the grass. The back nine is a bit better than the front. I can only hope it's a passing problem, this course is usually in very good to excellent condition.

Played 10/14. The course is currently going through overseeding and punching of greens -- so the conditions were crappy at best. It was cart path only and the greens were very bumpy due to the punching. Although the course has potential. The layout is interesting and the greenside bunkers will challenge you on your approach -- especially the par 5 17th. There are nice elevated tees and greens to test you...and a few fairways with large undulations to test your ability to place your tee shots and/or hit from uneven lies. I will definitely come back in a month or more to see how everything comes back. Enjoyed the round despite the conditions. Finished in 4 hours playing with a newbie...could be a very fast course to play otherwise.

Played on Labor Day and I can't say that I was thourougly impressed by the conditions of the course. Lay out was definitely interesting but the fairways varied from hard pack, to thin to replanted patches. The greens were bumpy which made it a bit hard to get a true roll. The pace of play was moving fairly well especially as busy as it was for a holiday. Paid $50 with cart, hot dog, chips and drink (Worldwide Golf Special) but don't think this course is worth the regular green fees of $68. OC courses seem to think they can ask that much just because it's "the O.C." when I've paid less for much better kept and designed courses in L.A., Riverside, SB and Ventura counties. Get over yourself OC, your courses aren't that great from what I've experienced so far. Don't think I'd make the drive again to play this course. Would rather make the same drive time-wise to Sierra Lakes, River Ridge or Rancho Vista. Greenskeeper, come on, this is rated as Great? Not saying the course is horrible (play Shorecliffs for that) but can't say that it's Great.

Played 8/14, and I can only hope the maintenance staff was having a bad day. Played in the morning, so everything should have been done by then and there wasn't a load of golf traffic in front as the course was prepping for a tournament later that day.

Tee boxes were awful. Large tee boxes, yet the tees were squeezed into a 10 foot area with the worst turf conditions. 1/2 of the tees were not level at all. After a while, we ignored the tees and just picked the best place on the box we could find.

Greens were sometimes smooth, and sometimes very bumpy. Hard to figure out why, it looks like the grass is healthy and consistent, there are just some very areas where the growth is very inconsistent.

Even for a <$50 course, I was not impressed by the course conditions.
