Nice course overall with excellent greens. Course is a little on the short side with several short par 4s. Bunkers are way too soft--like a sand box. One ball was completely buried on an approach shot from 125 yards. A good test of golf especially with the short irons. Pace of play was acceptable (4 1/2 hrs).

They have done quite a bit to improve the condition of the course over the last few years but have failed completely to improve the staff to even acceptable condition. The management here is the most ... Continue »

They have done quite a bit to improve the condition of the course over the last few years but have failed completely to improve the staff to even acceptable condition. The management here is the most amaturish self serving un-professional group I have ever ran into. I will spend my green fees at any number of other courses available where customer services is exibited.

Very nice course. The course was in very good condition. A variety of holes that included tight holes, water and sand. Well worth the cost of the round.

We will be back.

Course is in great shape. Only complaint is the new sand in some of the bunkers making the bunkers inconsistent.

Never expect a quick twilight round at SJHills on the weekend. It's always 5+ hours. Great course, but no fun on the weekends due to slow play.

Had to update everyone on this situation...
I emailed the management company and the director of golf my displeasure after my last round and included a copy of my last post. I received a response from Kevin Martin with SunCoast Golf, Inc. the next day. He assured me the situation was dealt with, informed me that groups are moved in the event of extremely slow play by the director of golf or the head pro, and apologized for my experience. Kudos to SunCoast and San Juan Hills! I will definately be giving San Juan Hills another opportunity. I wish more management companies were this responsive.

To continue my previous post...after being so pleased with this course, I decided to go back on Sunday. I secured a tee time of 1:52 for a foursome, but only three of us made it. We were teamed up with a fourth, who turned out to be a marshall at the course. If they EVER try to team you up with a marshall named Terry, DO NOT play with him. This "gentleman" threw clubs and rakes, screamed obscenities at every bad shot he had (and there were quite a few), and felt compelled to try to drop every cliche known to a golfer within the first three holes. When I confronted him about his "etiquette", he laughed it off and suggested it was a "do as I say, not as I do" approach at this course. Amongst all of this nonsense, the course was moving rather slow, so discussions turned to how to manage slow players. Terry proceeds to tell us that there is nothing he can do other than encourage the slow players to speed up. He said there was a tourney earlier that morning while he was working that had an extremely slow group playing in it. He asked the group many times to speed up play, but they refused. When asked why he didn't pick them up and move them, his response was something to the effect of "I don't have any authority to do that". WHAT?! I've seen it done on other courses. Are you telling me that San Juan Hills will not move a slow group? Our round took us 5 hours and 20 minutes...totally unacceptable. These comments, the rude marshall, and the fact that we didn't see a working marshall the entire round will weigh heavily on my decision of where to play next weekend.
