Played Sat. Morning 7/22/2005. I was looking for cool course to play but since it was so hot you could barely tell the difference. Only when I left did I notice the temp. difference from here and home. Greens and fairways are what you would expect from a muni like this. Course is fairly tight with a strange layout. I like the course because it makes you play different shots. Of course things could be better but then it would cost more. We need more affordable weekend golf courses like this in the O.C.

I hadn't played Shorecliffs for probably close to 15 years until I went out yesterday (Sat.) afternoon. Click4TeeTimes.com rate of $26 w/cart was a good deal I thought. I knew they had done some renovations since I last played here, but I was actually impressed with how much better the course plays now. The trees separating the first and ninth fairways give the course a much better feel. Don't get me wrong -- this is still Shorecliffs and you might find yourself on hardpan in the middle of the fairway, and the design has some serious issues or at least quirks, depending on how you look at it. Also, sand in the bunkers varied from trap to trap. All in all, however, I was pleasantly surprised, and if I can get that $26 rate again in the future, will definitely return. The course is pretty demanding from both mental and ballstriking perspectives. As someone else mentioned, it's a good choice when the temperatures are as high as they have been lately.

I had not played here since 1977 and this course is even stranger than I remember. Maybe the word "FUNKY" is more appropriate. The general layout, the winding of the cartparth to get from hole to hole, the tunnels (which were flooded) and the "ambiance" are so very different from most other courses. I can't praise the course, but I have to admit I actually enjoyed the round. The views and unusual proximity to the houses made for a very interesting round. The proshop allowed me to tree off right at 6am and told me I would be in front of maintainence, so as it turns out the first hole I had a flag was #10. No cut greens either? My experience was not good, not bad ... it was .. different!!

Played Sat. 07/01/2006. Teed off at 10:30 and was prepared for a long hot afternoon. I hadn't played here for about a year and a half. So I fogot how close it was to the ocean. A cool breeze all day long kept temps. 15 degrees lower then where I live in L.H. Finished in 4 and half hours on a weekend. Paid $50 to play in South O.C. on a weekend, which is virtually unheard of. Yeah the course is not top notch but what do you expect when you play a relatively inexpensive muni. If you hit it where you are supposed to, the course is fair and the conditions do not to penalize you. Fairways were acceptable and greens were also in good shape. Course is a little tight in spots but fair. Conditions could be better, but they always can be. Relax and enjoy your round, be thankful that you're golfing. For the cost and location, this is as good as it gets. I will be back more often, especially when it's hot and I have the itch to tee it up.

In reading the prior comments I have to wonder what the true expectation really is for all of us. While I understand that we as golfers want the quality of Pebble Beach with the green fee of Muni USA.

I play a lot of golf all over the country and while I live in South OC I am baffled at what golf courses charge relative to the experience. One golf course that I will remain nameless had the %$^&$'s to charge well over $100 while I was forced to watch the cart guys play hacky sack while I lugged my bag in from the parking lot, I then walked into the golf shop and had to wait for the golf pro to get off of his cell phone while he was arguing with his girlfriend so I could check in. And by the way attempted to make me feel privileged that I was playing his glorious course.

Long story short.... I include Shorecliifs into my rotation quite often and have always found the course to be fun, challenging and constantly improving. Is it Pebble Beach?? NO!! but it is a place we can go to enjoy a fun day of golf, play a unique layout and have a cold beer and tell lies with your buddies at the end of the day. And oh yea I still have change left over from my $100 bill.

I have been playing Shorecliifs since 1989 and I have never seen an improvement like I have at Shorecliffs over the past few years. Let's give theses guys a break...

Reading thru I forgot to add how terrible the sand traps were. They were rock hard, and you might as well use a shovel to get out of the sand trap. I cant even tell you how disapointing this course really was. I hated golf after playing this, but finally regained when I played Casta Del Sol last weekend, which I might add was only $43 with a cart, and this POS was $50. The driving range also has cracked balls, and the mats are terrible too. If you are reading these posts because you want to know how the course is... Play something else maybe costa del sol or Aliso Viejo. Better yet spend the extra $ and play Tejaras Creek on twilight. Its worth the extra $20.
