Played in a two-day tourney, the Irvine City Championship, on Sat/Sun July 16-17, 2011. I've played this event several times over the years, plus occasional casual rounds here, and SF is in the best shape I've ever seen it. Historically the course has played soft, but over the past couple years they've cleared back a lot of the vegetation around greens and tees and opened up the course to more wind and sun exposure - as a result, the entire course has firmed up, and now plays firm and fast throughout. Not links fast, but very different from the way most SoCal courses play. You still have to hit it straight and stay out of the environmental areas that eat balls and strokes. And your putter needs to be sharp. Greens are pretty firm and roll well, and are very quick right now. Good lies in the fairways, tees in good shape, sand in bunkers is good. Rough is 2-4 inches high and can grab the ball and your club. SF is still pricey but is in great condition.

Played at 820 this morning. Played in exactly 4hours. Course was well watered and rough was very lush. Greens rolled very well, were smooth, no ball marks and medium speed. Staff out front and after the round very good. Had the breakfast sandwich before the round and bar staff was excellent. Still think it is overpriced but the course was well maintained so maybe not? Depends on your perspective and tolerance for $110 weekday rounds.

There are much better condition courses with better green fee. 3-4 wokers were working on the tee box areas (Thank you), but please.. at least, turn off the lawn mower when players are on the tee box. I had to tee off with very nosie.. It seemed to me that the wokers didn’t care about it.. The green was very slow..
I don’t recommend this course because you pay too high green with this poor condition.

I guess when you pay these kind of green fees, your expectations are greater. Mine were not met.

Played Strawberry Farms Golf Club yesterday in a scramble event and was very impressed with the conditions of the course and layout. This was my third time playing Strawberry Farms and the best experience to date. For golf courses that have poa greens and claim they can’t get them rolling great, please contact Strawberry Farms because they are rolling smooth and fast with lots of bite. The fairways were lush and firm with exception to hole 12 (which was a bit thin and dry). The rough was lush and kept at a playable height of 2 to 3 inches. The bunkers had good quality sand and well maintained. The tee boxes were level, lush and cut tight. As for the layout, it is a blast. You get 5 risk reward par 5’s, 5 par 3’s and a good mix of short-long par 4’s. You hardly ever see another hole giving your golf experience a nice secluded feeling. The practice facilities are excellent with a large range w/targets, chipping/sand and two practice greens. I found the practice greens to perfectly duplicate the greens on the course. The clubhouse is outstanding. Beautiful architecture plantation style and excellent food.

Highly Recommended

Made a 10 am tee time for a Wed. Pro shop forgot to tell our group that range doesn't open on Wed. until 10 am. They said most players just go out and not hit range balls, so they don't care range is closed. But, we do. After some discussion, they agreed to let us start late so we could hit some balls first. We had 50% off discount, but they charged $10 additional for carts. Why aren't carts included in green fee? Would be long uphill walk between 9th green and 10th tee box. Course has some narrow holes, where OB happens to us high handicappers. Several holes were cart path only. Makes it guesswork for distances; best to bring extra clubs to ball. Greens were very quick. Looked like they had been punched about a month ago. 131 slope from blues is a stern test. Not worth paying full rate, but OK w/ discount.

Very disapointing at super twilight Thursday 3/31/11 on a very warm day with light breeezes. Course is actually in very good shape with very firm, fast greens, firm fairways with tight but good lies, good sand in bunkers. About the best I've seen SF. Greens were quick, although this late in the afternoon they looked fuzzy and the ball tended to wander as it slowed down, so putting was imprecise. Problem was horrible pace - made the mistake of going out behind a high school competition - who knew they would play so slow. Also, I don't understand the ongoing path-only policy at SF - fairways were firm and dry. NO REASON for SEVEN holes to be CPO out of 13 non-par 3s. Ridiculous. I like SF, but with a high fee (even for SuperT) and this type of pace/setup, I can't recommend the course.

I played in the morning on 3/19. It was cloud though, it was very nice conditions. At the last half, it was windy little bit. The course layout was very challenging for me. But I like this course. Especially back 9. It is very beautiful. I'll be back soon.
