Played at 8am this morning. Used my last entry on my OC Trail Card. It was still cold and quite a bit of dew on the fairways.

Most of the fairways were thin and on a few holes we found some bare spots. The 90 degree rule was in effect but we were confused about this since they had rope barriers on most of the holes that only allowed you to enter at the start of the fairway and exit at the end making it impractical to get back to the cart path.

Greens were medium speed and generally in good shape.

The rough was about 4" long in most places and relatively easy to hit out of.

Our round took less than four hours with our foursome. We didn't have to wait on any hole.

Overall the course has great scenery and an excellent layout but given the fairway conditions, I don't think is worth the rate they are charging, even with a 50% discount.

Played on 12-26-12 after a long night of rain. Course was pretty soaked and we played "clean and place" in the fairways. I will try to keep this short and keep in mind the amount of recent rain.

Greens were in ok shape, a few bumps here and there and medium/slow speed. Speed did pick up in pace as the day went on.

Fairways look like they haven't and won't be over seeded. They are completely dead looking, and although this may be typical for this course during the winter, I was disappointed

Tee boxes and rough were both dark green and lush

Overall I really enjoyed the layout of the course. Very scenic and beautiful while also providing a challenging mix of holes. At the moment it is NOT worth what they charge but for the right price I would love to come back

Played at 8am this morning. Used my free round from the costco deal. It was quite cold this morning and lots of dew on the fairways and greens.

Tee boxes in great shape and level.

Fairways were lush grass and some thin areas. But overall very good. Carts were 90 deg rule on most holes and some were even cart path only.

Greens were soft and a bit fuzzy. Rolled true but on the slower side in my opinion. However they were in great shape!

The rough was lush and about 3-4" long. Was a good length and wasn't too punishing.

Had a great round, a little over 4 hours.

My only real gripe is the driving range. What a rip off. For their green fee's i was very shocked that balls were not included.

Played 9/29 and not in very good shape. Front nine is a very averge layout and the back is very disjointed with with no flow in design. 18th hole is very interesting but not much of a golf hole. ... Continue »

Fair course to play, somewhat challenging, not overly long. Tee boxes in great shape with fast greens. Golf course is not worth the $160 weekend green fees. Steep prices probably has to do more with the city and neighborhood rather than the course itself. You can play top 100 course like Wolf Creek, Princeville and PGA West Stadium for around the same price.

Played in a two-day tournament (Irvine City Championship) on Sat/Sun 7-21/22-2012 on sunny hot days with little wind. SF was generally in good condition, with fairly firm greens that rolled well. Some variation in firmness between front and back, with the back being more receptive. Fairways had pretty good lies, the rough was pretty benign, and almost burned out in some areas, although green collars could be lush and bushy. Sand also varied between front and back, with sand on the front being damp and very firm with only a thin layer of 'moveable' sand, whereas on the back the traps had been raked deeper and were still damp but more playable.

Many tees not level all the way across. The new cart path on #14 is ugly and should be removed. Saw the cart girl once Sat, twice Sun. Enough water available. Pace 4.5-5 hr due to lots of balls in the hazards. Several areas where the fairways were roped off from carts, increasing the amount of walking necessary.

Sunday 7am tee time, perfect time to play this course. Finished 18 in under 3h 15m as a twosome. Course is in excellent condition. Tee boxes perfect, no problems with sloping tees, no divots. Fairways are great right now, can barely tell anyone has played the course. Greens were wet but still rolled smooth. Many greens are large, so you can end up with some long putts over hills, but the speed of the greens was perfect. Greens were a little soft, which was fine, we played them right after watering. The course has many wide fairways so there is some forgiveness, although a few holes can be quite punishing if you miss. Course is excellent quality overall, but probably not worth the rack rate. If you are going to pay full price, I suggest you play early and enjoy the round more without waiting on people ahead. Anywhere else this course would be around $80. All staff were extremely helpful , and the breakfast at the restaurant was also great.

I’ve played Strawberry Farms 3 or 4 times now. I’ve played it with no game and sprayed it all over the place and played it with tons of game. IMO this is a stellar layout. It’s a beautiful course that is both challenging and fair. It’s a fun layout with many risk reward opportunities and creative green complexes that make you think.

As far as the condition, this last visit was by far the best condition I’ve experienced it. In a word this place is…healthy. I was very impressed with fairways and rough. It’s been about 7 or 8 years now since the golf course, like many high end golf courses did in Orange County, stopped overseeding with winter rye so the spring-summer-fall conditions would be better. It worked! These bermunda fairways and rough play fantastic and if they are able to keep them adequately watered over the next 6 months they will only keep getting better and better. There are a couple holes (12 & 14) where in sections of the fairways they are aerating but other then that, pure. As far as the rough, Thank God it was only 2 to 3 inches long because if they grow that stuff up even another inch, that bermunda is going to be brutal to play from. Regarding greens, I love well maintained poa. I understand over the weekend they had the greens cut and rolled to run at around 11 on the stimp. So naturally, on a Tuesday they are going to still be growing back and not yet cut. But overall, man they looked healthy and held shots beautifully. We played in the afternoon and those that play poa greens frequently know they are always faster and smoother in the morning as opposed to the afternoon because of how fast poa grows and how easy foot traffic can leave impressions on the greens. As far as the bunkers I found the sand quality to be excellent and all the traps well groomed. Regarding the tee boxes, they were level, lush and provided divot repair mixture (something I admire about a facility because far too often courses don’t put mix on the tee boxes resulting in too much unnecessary divot damage. Plus when a course puts divot mix on the tees, it sends a signal to golfers to appreciate the tee boxes more because the course does).

Overall, as you can guess, I think Strawberry Farms is a fantastic golf experience right now and only expect it to improve as we head into summer.

I don't normally play higher end courses but when given the opportunity.... I sieze it! Course conditions for this OC golf course are outstanding. Bottom line this is what golf should be for everyone. It's a daunting view from the tee boxes but once you get past the optical illusion you will enjoy yourself. This course you have to trust your swing. I didn't and paid for it dearly.

Pace of play was quick. Finished in just under 4 hours as a foursome. Staff is very attentive. Greens were a little slow and bumpy in some spots but over all you had to really read the greens to get a decent feel for the way the ball will roll. Fairways in a word -- LUSH! Only two holes showed they were trying to get the grass to take better hold (the fairways were punched) but overall you had carpet lies in the fairway. And the work they are doing in those two fairways show they are on the job and trying to remedy the situation. Tee boxes were lush and sand in bunkers very playable.

Now the question .... would I come back here? Heck yes! I have my OC Trails card and I am thinking of playing here again to exact my revenge..... Now Noel... you gonna join me on this little outing? :D Bottom line, course conditions are fantastic. Pace of Play fantastic. Staff is fantastic. You will be challenged; this course can kick you in the teeth if you aren't paying attention but you will have fun having your but whooped!
