Played here today with a 2:15 start time, thanks to an invitation from my friend Todd (@th_golf_photography on IG). Course very was busy but we started right on time and pace was good, finishing in a little under 4 hours, despite minor waits on most tees. We were a foursome behind a twosome.

Conditions are quite good. Greens seem like they were aerated maybe 3-4 weeks ago, still impacting putts a little bit with wobbles and a very thin sanding on top. Another week or two and they should be all healed. Despite the aeration, they got pretty fast on downhillers and I think we all ran putts significantly past the hole a few times. I loved these fairways; they're in very nice shape with plenty of cushion underneath the ball and providing great lies. The rough was maybe 2-3 inches deep, in good condition, and not too penal. White tee boxes were all really nice. For the bunkers, some holes have tan sand and some have what looks like brand new bright white sand. Both are well maintained but not quite as soft and fluffy as they look – an inch or two of sand on top of a firmer base.

This was my first time ever playing here. The front nine is pretty basic and straightforward, then some character starts to shine through on the back nine. Five par 3s and five par 5s. I loved the downhill par-3 14th, protected on the right side by a small lake/pond. The par-4 13th was also fun with a significant drop from the tee box to the fairway. Course looked great in the afternoon sunlight. I was stoked to finally get a chance to play here!

Played Monday, May 14th in a Scramble Tournament. Enjoyed the course! It was in good shape. Greens rolled true, and weren't too difficult to read. Fairways were in good shape, also. Tee boxes were in good shape. Staff was very friendly. Carts were nice and clean, but no GPS screens (course is pretty easy to read, so they're not really needed). This is a Private course, but if it were Public, I'd have no problem paying $70-$80 to play it, but no more than that. Well worth a visit, if you can get on.

Was invited by fellow GK’er, Orangegolfer to play in a scramble tournament. Jumped on it as I have never played AV and live about 5 minutes away. On a very warm afternoon, we were off at around 11:15.

The course was in good condition but dry. The kikuyu fairways were cut down real low so you got great lies. The rough was lush and thick but fair. The bunkers were great. Soft, white sand and easy to get out of.

The greens were still in aeration recovery so really can’t rate.

AV is a very nice golf course. With the exception of one or two holes, it is definitely a fader’s course as many holes off of the tee moved from left to right. Many homes line the fairways but the fairways were generous so no balls in their backyards! Would love to play here again one day with the greens in better conditions.

Played in a LA Seniors event (60 and older) this Thursday AM. First class service once you arrive at the club and through out your day. Outstanding practice areas: chipping green with a sand trap, two putting greens and a large driving range. Greens: about 90% healed from the recent aeration so the speed was slow to medium and a little bumpy. Fairways: generous width, firm with very decent lies. All bare spots were marked off. Rough: 1 -3 " high, not very punishing. Traps: many traps and in excellent condition. POP: just over 4 hours. Very challenging layout. Play there if you get an invite.

Finally had the chance to play here this morning. Befriended a member recently, so he invited me out for a round. Guest fee a bit steep at $89, but it was a course I needed to check off my list. We teed off around 6:45 and enjoyed a nice 3:45 pace behind other member groups.

The course was in good condition overall. Tee boxes were great. Fairways were mostly quite good with primarily kikuyu and occasional patches of other types of grass in the mix. A few weak spots here and there, but mostly nice. Rough pretty lush and just enough to make you work, but not overly penal. No turf reduction here yet, so lots of grass from edge to edge on the property. The bunkers just got new sand a few weeks ago and it still needs to settle. Lots of fried eggs. It is a very soft, yet grainy and heavy (especially in the morning dampness), so it was like hitting through wet cement sometimes. Greens were crazy soft and a lot of crater-like ball marks. I thinned a 5-iron on one hole and it backed up a couple feet. Greens a little on the slow side and bumpy in places because of so many big ball marks scarring the surfaces. They are definitely due for a good aeration, though I saw on their calendar it is not until September 27-28 (I think).

Solid overall course, but nothing overly amazing. Runs through a residential area, but never feels too tight with homes in play. Hilly in places. I liked the back nine more with some hillier terrain and a few interesting hole designs. Very casual and friendly club, so an enjoyable overall experience.
