Played Sunday, 6/15. Course is in good shape, but starting to show some burn out for the summer with some bare and brown areas on both fairways and rough. Greens much slower than practice green. Played here a month ago as well and it's showing much more signs of summer wear than a month ago. Escena is usually super lush and beautiful, maybe it was because I played Desert Willow the day before, but wasn't so impressed with Escena today. Cart girl was around 5-6 times and super friendly. They have two great cart girls here. Sand was hard and had a lot of large rock, except for one that had a dump truck full in it. Not the best conditions I've had here for this time of year. I'm hoping it holds on for a good summer as we like to play and eat here often.

A beautiful course made absolutely ugly by its staff. We played on 3/16/14 When we paid for the round, I asked if we had time to get coffee and they said yes, since we were second out and there was a gap to the 3rd group who had not checked in. We showed up to the 1st tee about 3 minutes late only because only 1 person helped us get coffee. Instead of the starter saying "Good morning gentlemen. You are starting a little late so I have to ask you to make sure that you don't hold up play," we got "You are late and you are impacting MY schedule for the rest of the day. If you can't show up on time, you shouldn't book so early." At the 3rd green, the Marshall, said we were playing way too slow and that we were holding up play. He said we were on pace for a 5-6 hour round. The first 3 holes are a par 5,4 and 3. We were on pace for a 4:15 round. The group behind us (4-some) was still putting on hole 2 and the group in front of us was pulling away (3-some). We were a 4-some. On the 6th hole, the Marshall again approached us and said we had not sped up and that we were affecting everyone else's round (still on a 4:15 round and making sure we didn't hold anyone up). The group behind us was hitting onto the green on the 5th hole. In other words, we were pulling away from them. The marshall's reasoning was we were not keeping up with the group in front of us. Through out the round, the Marshall was following us from hole to hole and the group behind us never caught up. Around the 13th hole, we noticed the group behind us was different. They had been passed by another group. This new group also never came closer than 1 full hole behind us. When we finished the Par 5- 18, they had just teed off. When we finished the round, 2 young employees came over to clean our clubs and they both commented how slow we were playing. I said, "if we played so slow, then why did no one catch up to us and why did the group behind us get passed?" The response was," Sir, you need to direct your comments to management." I told him to stay away from my clubs. We drove the carts to our car and then these same employees again said, "that the next time we come back that we need to play at a 3.5 hour pace". I bit my tongue at the time omly because one of my playing partners has clients that like to go there and the reservation was under his name. I was absolutely furious. Maybe they don't like people from LA/OC. Maybe they don't like Asians (didn't want to say it, but I did not see any other ethnicities there). What ever the case, if they didn't want me to play there again, they accomplished their mission.

Had a great round today with our new friends Frank and Noel. Perfect weather and course looks amazing. Greens were well manicured, a bit slower than expected, but Escena greens are never really blazing fast. I was surprised they were a hair bumpy and had too many divot marks. Players need to realize even if they don't make a hole the indentation still needs repair.
Fairways and rough terrific, rough right at about an inch.
Tee boxes mostly level and well maintained. Sand good, plenty. A little hard on fairways, but that's good in my opinion. Green side were soft and had abundant sand. Saw cart girl frequently and Marshall, friendly and accommodating was around several times. Customer service ALWAYS perfect here. Highly recommended.

Played my favorite course today. Had an 11:06am tee time and finished closer to 4pm. This course is beautiful and in great condition. Tee boxes were nice and trim, fairways were nice as well. even after the rains we just had, nothing was muddy or soft. The only issue is with the greens. Lots of unrepaired divot marks that were starting to heal making the greens a but bumpy at times. Service was excellent as always. They come and get your bags for you in the parking lot. Saw the Marshall a few times checking in on things. Saw the cart girl on many holes. After our round, we ate at the restaurant and their food is always very good, even the bar menu. Excellent service all around.

I've decided to write a review, but not do the detailed rating since we played the the last weekend before the course closed, so the conditions were based on that.

I've decided to write a review, but not do the detailed rating since we played the the last weekend before the course closed, so the conditions were based on that.

This is my favorite course, I'm not sure why, but it is. Each hole is different, they each pose their own challenges, and its a very nice course, kind of reminds me of old Palm Springs where you'd expect to see Bob Hope or Frank Sinatra. Reminiscent of old Palm Springs!

We played Saturday, Sept. 28, second to the last day before they closed for maintenance. They shut off the water a week or two before, so everything was dry and very little grass, but still very playable. Had a little bit of a slow round at just over 5 hours. No marshal in sight. Cart girl game around quite a bit, which was good, because it was a little hot that day.

The food at the restaurant is very good and so is the service. We try to eat here either before or after our round (except for Sundays when they have brunch).

Glad to have been able to get in a last round before the closure! Looking forward to when they reopen the course as I will be back.

Thanks walnutgolf for the heads up. We went out today to rid the voucher from underpar. Very good value and 3 hours of golf. Nice staff. Conditions are what is expected for maintenance starting this weekend and closing for October. Still, as stated, good layout, solid challenge and a quick workout on a dry course, but holding and smooth greens.
When in season, highly recommended .

Played Sunday 9/22 @ 10:11am. Our 2some joined by another 2some. Finished in just over 4 hours. Only a week to go before overseed so the course was still somewhat green but dry. Front 9 playable but the back 9 had many areas of dirt. Don't think it will remain playable after Tues this week. Although conditions weren't ideal, I enjoy the layout here so no complaints at all.

Fabulous course and excellent conditions. From tee box to short of the greens it's great. The greens were extremely slow compared to ANY we have played in the last year. The greens were cut long, surely for the heat and wind they receive in the area. Very frustrating to hit good drives and approach shots only to three putt. The course is one of the closest in the area near the airport and convenient to the freeway. Staff very friendly and the fees well worth the short drive.
