Pros- Basically Everything. This course always amazes me. We try and play here first every summer when we brave the heat and drive down to the desert... and sure enough, this place never disappoints. Yes the greens are crusty because its a 100+ degrees. Yes, the course has some heat damage, but no one ever leaves this place disappointed. I won't even post a cons section here because it doesn't seem right... if you go to PS area, play here.
Overall, a must play every time you are in the desert.

Got out to Indian Wells on Saturday with Alaksana. No tee time but we showed up at 3:30pm and we're out to the 1st tee within 5 minutes. $40 after 3pm is well worth it. I've seen many deals online as well if you plan ahead. POP was great at a little over 3 hours which is always appreciated when the temps are in the triple digits. Tees- With the exception of one tee box that seemed to have been forgotten about, all we perfect. Flat, level, and full coverage. Fairways- Fast and firm as is usually the case with desert golf in the summer. Adds about 20-30 yards of roll depending on the slope. There were a lot of divots in the fairways for this time of year. Rough- Generally speaking not very penal unless you were way off line and into the native long grasses or desert areas. Bunkers- Filled with high quality white sand. Only complaint would be that considering how massive some of the bunkers are, I saw that several of them only had 1 rake which can potentially slow things down on a busier day. Greens- Soft and rolled true around a medium (more on the slower side of medium). Too many people leaving their ball marks unrepaired. Customer Service/Facilities- Check in was friendly and the starter was one of the nicest and funniest individuals I've ever encountered on a golf course. I really wish I could remember his name but I'm having a brain cramp at the moment. Pro shop is very well stocked and they are having a huge shoe and apparel sale right now. Clubhouse is elegant and welcoming. Misc.- Played from the tips (7376 yards) but with the firm fairways the course played much shorter than that. But still a great challenge. Range balls are included with your greens fees although we did not take advantage. I thought the course was more interesting than the typical desert layout. A lot of undulations and mounding meant that you'd have a few uneven lies here and there. Water comes into play on several holes. Holes 1-16 are across the riverbed and then you cross back for 17 & 18 next to the hotel. Those 2 holes seemed to not really fit with the flow of the rest of the course and are kind of a let down at the end of your round on an otherwise fantastic layout. They seemed to have run out of space and decided to just "throw" in the last two holes. But overall the course was great. Will be back to play the Celebrity soon. FYI there's a free 9 hole putting course that open to everyone.

Played Celebrity and Players 6/1& 6/2. Weather Saturday was hot and humid and I played poorly. Sunday was cooler and breezier and I had much better results. Kudos to the tournament director at IW for handling our group of 12 players. The pro shop staff was first rate. The courses were in excellent condition. I had played there two years ago and they certainly have improved the courses conditioning. The only negative is the course marshalls who think they need to ask for a 4.5 hour round and remind you that three holes in. Lost balls combined with comfort stations breaks for ice water make for a five hour round. The mango flavored ice water towels were a big plus in the heat. We will be back.

Moved over to the Players course for the second round of my 36-hole day. They were able to get me on the tee sheet quickly for the replay round (used Underpar.com deal that's running through 1/16 - $129 weekends/$119 weekdays for 36 holes, but beware of frost delays!). I got to the first tee and there was a foursome waiting. The starter ended up just making us a fivesome. It was about 1:30 when we teed off, so finishing before dark was very doubtful and we were waiting on the groups ahead most of the front nine. Then our group slowed down a little bit on the back. Once I saw a little gap ahead, I decided to break off on my own to get as much as I could in before dark. I skipped the 15th hole because there were groups on it, but played 16-18 without running into anyone. That was a good stretch of finishing holes, so I am glad I made that move.

The course was in the same nice conditions as celebrity...The course was in great shape overall. Fairways nice, green and excellent to hit from. Rough wasn't too deep, so it was good to hit from, as well. The greens were in good shape and running at medium speeds. Bunkers had great sand. The bermuda rough on the edges of the bunkers was dormant for a nice contrasted look. They had it really shaved down, though.

Though they utilize the same undulating terrain and have similar great scenery throughout, Players looks and plays differently than Celebrity. It's more rugged with more of a "desert" design. Also a number of long native grass areas in play to present some lost ball opportunities. Lots of bunkers, some tough forced carries, a few blind shots and a few more risk/reward opportunities than the other course. Not as many trees come into play. Players plays a lot longer from the cabernet/blue tees, but they also have a combo blue/white tee, which they don't have on Celebrity. Both are great courses and well worth checking out while you are there.

Rack rates a little too inflated for my taste, especially this time of year, but the deal I used made it worthwhile in great winter conditions. Big, beautiful modern design clubhouse. With the frost delay, the range was on mats only in the early morning. Cool little 9-hole practice green complex that's good for pre-round competition/betting or tiebreakers after your main round.

Played Nov. 27. First time playing Indian Wells-Players course. Conditions were very good, although the greens were slow, ran true, will hold a shot. Fairways were very good shape, no bare spots, a bit thin in some (very few) areas. Tee boxes were fine. Sand was very good. We played the combo tee's @6538 yds 71.7/129. This is a challenging course especially if you are playing it for the first time. There are about 6 blind tee shots, in that you cannot see the green because of hills or doglegs. Don't mind the dog legs, but when you don't know the course it is somewhat difficult to know where to hit your tee shot even with the GPS system. On 3 holes you have to watch the GPS as you cannot see the group in front of you, and on those 3 holes only the carts in front are displayed and the distances to them so you have to watch the GPS. It is a very interesting course, lots of sand, some water. Generally speaking the landing areas are big enough, however some holes you really have to place your shot, tough if you are not familiar with the course. I'd certainly play it again though. Pace of play today was a bit slow for my liking, but were done in 4 and a half.

Pros- layout is wide open but a challenge. Great track. Opening hole to closer is great. Holes 5&6 are awesome. Great use of water and hilly designs. Conditions for the time of year are amazing. Ball rolled alright on the greens but remember its 120 degrees. Plenty of water stations.
Cons- condition was not as it is in the season... Like fall and spring. This is a 9 or 10 out of season for me in past experience and is only diminished because the heat won't allow it to stay that way in summer.
Overall, unless directly after a punch... I will play this place for the challenge and the experience. Top notch

Went out 6/18 as a single. Not too many out there, too bad. The greens were in great shape, especially for this time of year. Fairways were splendid, bermuda was loving the heat. Tee boxes and traps were also top notch. Had an incredible all you can play package, and the staff was spectacular in getting you around and taking care of you, margarita machine on the cart is a little over the top, but tasted mighty fine on #32. Used all the clubs in my bag and each hole was a challenge. Got to play Celebrity with the package, and the conditions were equally pristine. Players seemed tougher to me, but Celebrity is plenty difficult. I love the La Quinta deal in summer, but if I go back this year, I'll be at Indian Wells again.
