Played Thursday May 8, 2014. Pace of play was excellent at under 4 hours. We tee'd off early though at 6:54. I noted that when we completed there was a back up on the first tee, so others likely did not play in under 4. The customer service here is excellent, as this course is part of the PGA West family. This was my second time playing the course, as I had played it last year in May. I had enjoyed my experience so much that I needed another go round.

The tee boxes were mostly good. Some were a bit scuffed up, especially on the par 3's. Some were a touch un level as well. The majority were in great shape. As most of the courses in the region there are a lot of different tee boxes on each hole, so they do get rotated frequently.

The fairways were green with some brown starting to bleed in. You could see the differences on some of the holes vs. others. There were also several patches where they were doing repairs. Overall the cut, and color were very good.

The rough on the course was virtually non-existent. It was barely cut higher than the fairways, this likely speeds up the pace of play, as this is a very popular resort course in the area.

The bunkers are in excellent shape with nice fluffy soft sand. Pete Dye gives a good challenge with the numerous bunkers all around the green complexes, but usually gives an out on one side of the green.

I thought the greens were in excellent shape, and had a great "green" color. They ran very quick at likely 10+ which is what the starter told us at the start. I thought they got quicker as the round proceeded and they continued to dry. They were quick hard, and it was rare to have a ball mark that needed repair. A couple of greens had some brown patches, but they were always away from the hole placement.

Overall I really enjoy this course, and the back 9 is probably the most scenic in the whole Palm Springs area. 14-17, are the most fun in my opinion. I really enjoy this course, and will continue to play it on my trips out to Palm Springs. Pete Dye gives a good chance to score on most holes, and if you make a mistake you are not penalized too severely. Very enjoyable round.

I played here 05/26/12 from the black tees at 72.9/135/6732. I had my eye on this Pete Dye design for weeks before my trip and while I do not normally care for his designs, I enjoyed this one as it did not seem as consistently punishing as other courses of his that I have played. This course sits right up against the mountains so it features some elevation change and picturesque views of the mountains and the valley. Really, to me this type of course is what makes desert golf good. Right from the start you know it is a Pete Dye course with a huge waste bunker down the left side on #1 and a 200+ yard par 3 on #2 with water all down the left side with his famous railroad ties. There are two sets of consecutive holes that are as good as I have ever played and those are #4 thru #6 and #14 thru #16, the latter set which winds up into a canyon. These holes require tee shots and approaches over the rocks and #16, my favorite hole, has to be the signature hole. It is a 167 yard par 3 that drops maybe a club to an island green surround by all rocks. A miss on these holes will have the ball bouncing off the rocks like a pinball game. On the flip side #10 thru #12 are some of the most boring consecutive holes that I have ever played as all those mid length par 4’s that are palm tree lined and go through the housing development. I play to a 5 or 6 handicap and had trouble with #16, but I think for the average golfer it might be close to unplayable. I actually took a triple bogey when my iron shot landed on the green and chased off the back. I really enjoyed the course, but think I would enjoy it much more heading around another couple times as there really is some local knowledge that could be applied. Hole #14 and #17 had blind landing areas off the tee and I thought hole #8 was goofy too as I only could see a sliver of fairway to hit to from the tee box. The course was burnt out pretty bad compared to the other courses that I played on my trip which detracted some from my experience. For the most part the greens rolled fine though. It was a little overpriced for the condition at $60 during the afternoon on a weekend in my opinion, but I am glad I played it.
