Hey - where was everybody??? It was a Saturday - so I figured we'd have to fight for a starting time! Went out as a twosome at 6:27 A.M. (third off) ** from the waiting list!! **. Got in six holes of beautiful SoCal golf. Drizzle began on the 7th hole. By #9 - it was pouring rain - but the match was tied - so we pressed-on! By the 13th hole - there was no sense keeping the glove dry or the umbrellas over the golf bags - we looked like somebody had turned a fire-hose on us! Goose Creek drains well and holds its water like a champ! There was no standing water on fairways or greens - even after we finished 18 holes. The course was set up for tournament play (a Senior Tour qualifier was held yesterday) - with ground-under-repair and hazards clearly marked with white and red spray-paint. Greens were slow because of the rain - but - the course played great. Rough was really long - but - the place is so green - it should be a great Spring for the "Goose". Oh - the heavy rain stirred-up some of the local dairy-smell - but it kept the flies down for a change! Golf in the rain ROCKS!

Went out as a 'single' as a last minute decision on Wednesday(12 March). Called the course, and asked what it looked like "at 10:00 A.M. for a single". The guy who answered the phone said: "Come on down - we'll get you right out!" I showed up at 10:00 - and waited until 11:30 to tee of!!. I normally would have bailed - but it's a long drive home! The course is getting ready for Senior Tour qualifier for the Newport Beach tour stop next week. The rough is longer than usual - the fairways are quite nice. The grees are still inconsistent....and a bit lumpy. For some reason - the 17th green was different - pristine, like a carpet. Whatever they are doing to 17 - they should do to all of 'em. The course is getting popular - and with that, too many new (and old, unfortunately!) golfers are not repairing their ball marks on the greens! Overall - still a great place to play. I am supposed to play there tomorrow (Saturday) - but the weatherman says I'd better bring a boat!

Played 02/22/03. Course is in excellant shape - tee boxes are level and well cut. Fairways are in great shape. Greens are in good shape. Only issue would be that although they rolled well, there was some inconsistency as to speed from green to green. Not sure what kind of grass they have on their greens, but seems to of a very durable variety. Guess its a tradeoff, where they sacrafice some softness and feel that you would get with bent grass.
Also, usually great friendly service at this club, but I did have a problem with one of the starters. We showed up 20 min's early for out tee time, and the guy took our 6 bucks for range balls for our 4some (only like 15 balls a guy), and then almost immediately called us to the tee (I hadn't even walked out of the golf shop). Why this guy sold us range balls when he knew he was going to try to send us out early was beyond my comprehension. So after the round was over, I walk back into the shop and try to get a refund on the balls and the guy tells me "No, I tried to get you guys out early, but you guys ended up wasting time on the first tee, so I'm not giving you any refun". Whatta jerk.
Except for this instance, people here have been very cool. By the way, they make a killer bloody mary at their bar.

Still the best bargain in local golf. Played Saturday (2/8/03) - first complaint ever: the greens were inconsistent, some slow - some very fast. Perhaps it was timing (the back may not have been mowed recently) - but the back-side greens were noticably slower. Still - you can spend a lot more $$$ in SoCal and not get as nice a course as "The Goose"!

Still in great shape as of Saturday the 14th of December. Always worth the drive, always worth the price. The 18th hole is one of the great finishing holes in So. Cal. Greens are tricky - but putt true. Not too fast, not too slow. Can get a bit windy this time of year.

Course is in good shape. Greens roll true, but not fast at all. Fairways and tee boxes are great. The dairy farms do stink a bit, but I think it is a very good deal.

In my humble opinion - this is the best value in Southern California golf! A little short from the white tees - but the greens are beautiful and hold all irons well (this did not used to be true - the greens have matured wonderfully!) Fairways are lush - rough is - well - pretty long - tournament long!! Variety of holes and risk-reward options make this my favorite course and worth the drive from anywhere!
