Well - it is obvious that the over-seeding is just around the corner - aeration, too! But - the work is necessary, and we will all be the better for it - the Ol' Goose is not in the best shape right now - but - after aeration and over-seeding - the Goose will be back strong (and I don't just mean the dairy smell!!) Greens were firm, fairways were a bit brown.....but overall an enjoyable day - they sent us out 15 minutes late for our 7:59 AM time - and sent us first-out on #10 - which was awesome, because we had nobody in front of us and played the front nine in 1 hour and 50 minutes!! The problem was *WHY* they were running late: THE DREADED GOOSE CREEK FOG!!! It came a little early this year - usually it's a problem during October and November - but - it was so freaking foggy that you almost couldn't see your own shoes!! Fuggeddabboutit when it came to seeing the greens, sandtraps or - your ball!!!! The fog lifted after our sixth hole (#15) - but - the scores had ballooned to 10-over for each of our foursome by the end of 9 (the triple-bogey-7 on "18" didn't help!) - which was a bummer - because I shot an even-par 35 on the "back" (actually, the "front") - one birdie, one bogie and the rest pars!) for the first time ever for nine holes! A great day!! I got the "right-to-left" tee shot swing *workin'*, Johnny!! Love my Goose!!!

ROFLOL at "on-n-two"'s comments!! I played The Goose today as well - and the smell was not *that* bad! It's been much much worse!! And - the normal amount of flies (the Goose Creek official "bird") on the 17th green (usually swarming around in "Biblical Proportions") were not present today. The greens were true and consistent - and they held all shots well for this being the middle of summer! One fairway in particular seemed to have a bunch of "ground under repair" marks and dry spots - the"number one handicap" hole on the back-side - shoot - what is it? - number 11? Anyway - I got out right after a morning tourney that ended at 9:00 A.M. I went out alone - and caught the guys in front of me at #3....so I played #2 and #3 twice. I did the same thing at #5 and #6 - and played a few extra holes a few times on the back side. I played three and four balls on some holes, I practiced pitch shots, I putted for ten minutes on every green....and I never saw anybody behind me until like the 15th hole!! It was like my very own private country club!! And - believe it or not - I still finished in four hours!!!!!! A perfect day - but I walked the course and I must have sweat a gallon! Drink lots of water....(they provide fresh, iced water about every three holes out there!) - and play the Goose!! And yeah - it's nickname "Poop Creek" does sometimes fit with all of the dairies nearby! Hold yer nose and hit 'em straight!!

The best way to describe Goose Creek is “A ROSE IN A CESS-POOL”with an enphasis on rose. Bring your lunch and shut your mouth, (Hard to get food at the turn if you’re still hungry after eating your fill of FLIES.) This may sound harsh, but the course itself makes up for all the peripheral sensory distractions i.e.: the smell and flies. Definitely a place you can score well. Great course conditions and layout. A must play.

For someone who has yet to break 90, this was a beautiful and fun course to play, without being overly challenging. The smell of the cow pastures sort of blended into the background but the flies on the last 3 holes could be bothersome if you don't have bug spray on already.

Played the Goose in my regular weekly match. Played from the blue-tees today - (not normal for us) - it really changes the complexity of the golf course. Tee-to-green the course may just be in the best condition ever. The greens are still a little slow - but they roll true. Finished in four hours (not bad for a Saturday morning) - it could have been faster - but the two guys they put us with insisted on looking for their obviously lost ball on one hole. While they were doing that - I looked and found a dozen golf balls in the weeds to the left of the 16th gold tee-box. Most of the balls were pretty good, once I cleaned 'em up!! Not a bad haul for five-minutes work. The 18th Hole at Goose Creek is, IMHO, still the best finishing hole in So. Cal. when a match is on the line! It takes real cashews to go for the pin over the water from the blue tee position. I got on with a three-wood today. The wind was just starting to blow. Great staff!! The had overcharged me last week (charged me for a cart when I walked) - no problem - they refunded me my $10.00 - no questions asked, just on my say-so. Try *that* at Wilson, Harding or Rancho!!! Long live the Goose!!!
