Played Fri jul 20th at 702 with our OFG group, the last time I played here was late April and the course was a mess. I saw a review on Greenskeeper and they were positive so I was hopeful. Check in quick and friendly, the restaurant doesn't open until 630 so IMHO is late for early summer tee times, should open at 6. Starter was very friendly and you can tell they are trying to recoup golfers. The tee boxes were all level and soft, the fairways were very nice, the 2 that were washed out by floods are all healed, the rough was very long and penal, really had issues finding the ball a few times, I was in the left green side bunker on #2 and the sand was wet and a little thin, the greens were very very nice, rolled very well (27 putts today lol ) you could see the splices of the grass on the green but very smooth. My friends said we will be back as this is between Norco and Orange County. The worst part of the course is driving the carts both on the dirt cart path and the rough, is it like you are off road 4 wheeling LOL remember to go slow so you don't throw your back out or actually hit your head on the cart roof.

Decided to give GR a try and played it 6/27. This course used to be our home course as we had a standing morning tee time every Saturday for years. We didn’t renew our tee time this year, largely because things started to go downhill here. Got to the course around 11:00 and got right out, walking for $21.00. Was stuck behind a rather slow 4 some but was able to jump ahead of them on #3 and from that point had clear sailing. Although not a lot of new improvements, the course is starting to come back. All of the issues they had with the greens seem to have been resolved particularly #’s 6 and 9. You can see the patchwork done on these greens but they rolled great. The rest of the greens are in good shape as well. Fairways are in good shape but with heavy kikuyu. Holes 10 an 11 which got hammered by floods some time ago have recovered well. Some thin spots but generally ok. Bunkers are in good shape as well. A little damp but no issues there. Nothing spectacular here but GR is making a comeback. I have always liked this course because I feel it’s a fun layout. It is also challenging and the wind can make it even more so. Construction still continues as they are widening the river bed next to the course but give it a go. I think you will enjoy it.

Played Fri Apr 27th in a Company best ball at 7am, I must say the breakfast sandwich was very good. All 18 holes were open and we started on hole 6. The last time I played here the back side had some real issues with the fairways and greens. I assumed (my mistake) that since the back holes were vlosed for the channel construction and didn't have much play they would have healed, well th ed fairways were acceptable for wnter conditions, but the greens are not, bumpy, different types of grass and looked like divots on a couple. I like this course but it needs some TLC before we will be back. I will look for others to review and decide when that might be.

12/11 using groupon $38 2 some with 25% off. 1st the good--Roy in the pro shop provided excellent customer service, very friendly and golfer oriented. The ball washers were well filled and in good working order. The last 6 holes were in pretty good shape.
The 1st 12 holes encompass the old Riverside section of the course--built in 1956 and have some real problems--apparently due to the alkaline soil conditions. Fairways are thin and patchy with many areas affected by gophers and ground squirrels--#10 is being cultivated. The rough is sparse with some bare spots. Most tees are level but in poor condition. Bunkers need a good churn and groom--currently quite hard pack.
Greens are damaged with many dead areas which have been sanded to at least smooth them out. Pins were generally located in the best areas so conditions were ok within 5 feet. Holes 6 and 9 have temporary greens--the new greens look to be coming along very well and willl be ready in 1-2 months.
POP 320 with no one around. It is sad to see the decline of Green River--hopefully they have a plan for recovery--the 2 new greens are a step in the right direction.

Played Fri Dec 1st at 758, check was well lets say the gentleman must not be a morning person. The starter was very nice and friendly and told us there were 2 temp. greens about 20 yards in front of the greens, 6 and 9. Well all the greens on the east side of the club house were terrible, various grasses, bare spots, various stages of repair, absolutely not playable. The greens on the west were very, very nice, holes 13 thru 18, good grass rolled true. Tee boxes, and fairways were good , bunkers were a little hard. This course needs some time to heal.

Played Green River on Tuesday, 11/7 on a beautiful late morning, early afternoon. Got out at 11:00, playing solo and behind another single but still got around in just under 3 hours walking. Well, I have to say it but GR has some issues. The greens on the front 9 have not recovered from aeration. Some of the greens are pretty bad and it will take some time for them to fully recover. Back 9 greens however starting with #12, are in great condition. You would have never known they were aerated. Everything else about the course is ok. Kikuyu fairways are in good shape as is the rough. In fact it looks like they cut down the rough a bit, particularly on the back 9. Sand traps are in good shape. I always walk GR even though it’s not walker friendly. It’s pretty flat on the front until you get to #12 and then have a very long, partly uphill walk from the green to #13 tee box. The long walk from #18 green to the parking lot is a tough one. All uphill. Although the greens are struggling to recover, it’s still a fun course to play with some challenging holes. Let’s give the course about a month and see how the greens are then.

For my first round of golf in a very long time, I joined 3 childhood friends for an afternoon of fun. One in the group organized using a Groupon deal at $19 per player, including cart. Checkin was efficient, and we were given the first tee a little ahead of our 1:10 tee time, playing behind a group of 5 that included a young boy, but they kept pace with the group ahead. Play was slow, but we weren't in any rush - a relaxed vibe was the order of the day. We played from the white tees. It was a hot, breezy day, and as usual on this course whose fairways are lined with cottonwood trees, any balls hit in the rough were a challenge to find among the shiny, fallen leaves. Tee boxes were in decent shape, generally well covered, with some unlevel ground, and some chewed up areas. Fairways were lush and well covered. I didn't play from any bunkers, but they appeared to be maintained. Other members of my group noted that sand was thin and hard. Rough was variable (lush at the edges of fairways, thinner away), with lots of rodent burrows. The greens were disappointing. I knew of the recent maintenance, but several greens still had sand and obvious punch holes. Some small bare areas were evident, and there were many unrepaired ball marks. For my taste, there was just too much variability in the condition of the greens from one hole to another. In any case, this course has potential to be good, but on this day (Sunday 10/15) it could have been better. Note the quirky layout, in which you play away from the clubhouse until the 12th hole, then pass the clubhouse in the middle of a very long trek to the 13h hole. There is a refreshment shack convenient to the area around the 3rd tee and 11th green, but it was closed at the time we played. Also lacking was reliable water fountains - only found 2 on the entire course, and their flow was little more than a dribble.

I thought about playing Green River, but with the maintenance alert, decided to postpone, but after reading Larry's email in which they are pushing the punching until next week, decided to go for it.

Always enjoy playing here, but I must admit I really miss the original layouts. Course is in just OK shape. Greens roll reasonable well, a bit slow however Fairways are hit/miss. Bunkers are very thin/hard.

With the changes, the course is no longer as "walker friendly" as the original layouts, which is partially why I prefer the "old days" Plus there are a number of really nice holes on each course which are just not there any more

Decided to play GR as a single today 9/19. Got there about 10:00 am and the starter sent me right out to the tee. Ended up playing with another single, Doug. Nice guy and we had a good time out there. Know that they are not aerating the greens this week and will do so on Sept. 25, 26. Pace of play was slow. We still played in just under 4 hours but should have been faster but there was a 4 some a couple of groups ahead that was really slowing things down. They quit after 12 holes which was fine by us.

The kikuyu fairways are decent. They pretty much keep them mowed down but still not a lot of roll out. Tee boxes were ok. Very thick though and could have used a mower. Bunkers were hit and miss. Some were playable but most of them were rock hard. Sadly, this is so common on many courses so it’s tough to be critical here but I did make a point of mention to the pro, Art Guevara about it and he said he would make it a point to remedy. Art is great guy and if you’re ever there, say hello.

The greens are starting to wear with some showing some burnt areas. They did roll very nicely but looks like they could use some work.

Green River has a great lay out and I have always found this course challenging (then again, they’re all challenging). If you play after 11:00, you will get some wind to hit into. They’re going to aerate the greens soon but I would definitely recommend.
