This course is in excellent shape in the spring of 2006. Fairways are beautifully kept, and the rough is pretty high after weeks of rain. The only real complaint is the green. I played at 2:30 p.m. on a recent Saturday, and the greens were obviously not mowed that day. They were very bumpy in areas, and an uphill 15-foot putt became an almost unsinkable adventure. Some tees were also unnecessarily bushy, too. If the greens were mowed, no complaints at all.

Played today, Thursday April 13, 2006. The course is in almost "incredible" shape considering what has happened in the past 12 months. For those of you who have played the course in the past and haven't returned recently, you are in for a treat. The rumors about the old course maintenance team moving to other courses (i.e. Green River down the 91) because of the threat of the course closing may be true, but the current staff have done a great job starting to get the course back on track. You no longer have to duck from the brush while in your cart driving from hole to hole.

Today, the tee boxes rated an 8, the fairways a 5, and the greens another 8. The fairways rate a 5 just because it takes so much work to get all of the fairway grass back to what it should be. There were some stretches where the fairway was mostly patch, but overall it was decent hitting the ball off of the fairway. As always, the starter staff and course marshall (Jeff, Doug, and Co.) were very friendly (sorry cart guys for not tipping, I only had a credit card, I'll make it up next time, I swear).

I'd hate to tell everyone to play this course because I hate crowds especially on weekday afternoons when I play, but you all really have to see what the guys have done at Hidden Valley recently.

Note: Since I live about a half mile down from where the course is located, make sure you honk driving halfway down Norco Hills Rd. I'll be sure to grab my gear and meet you at the clubhouse. Bring extra money so I can take it and pay my gas (natural and petroleum) bill.

Sometimes it's worth some extra dollars to play on a course with fewer beginners and traffic, & no fivesomes. Got out on time, twilite rate, under 5 hours on a Sat. p.m. Course conditions OK, although bunkers kinda hard pan. Greens pretty good shape; getting punched tomorrow. Played the whites so able to use 3w, not unpredictable driver - target golf. Stayed straight and in the short grass, and had reasonable distance left for easier approach shots. Wind picked up and made par3 8th very tricky. Fun day.

Haven't played here for awhile and condition has deteriorated but still is pretty good. Too many forced carries but many different types of holes. Played in under 4 1/2 hours on a Sunday PM.

Hidden Valley is back in good shape. Fairways are much better, some are almost perfect, greens are fast and smooth and hold well. Its a tough track, not too many folks here today, ,Maybe too hard for most, but my guess is they dont have a good senior rate for weekdays and folks go elsewhere. If one can play Goose Creek cheaper than Hidden Valley they will do it, I usually do, today was special as one of the group wanted to play here. They need to cater to the older crowd on weekdays. The good news is Hidden Valley is back in good form.

First off ya gotta know we really like the challenge of Hidden Valley. We are glad that its gonna be around a bit longer,, BUT,,,, how much does rope cost? , why wouldnt they rope off all the swampy areas in the fairways? We can see what they are doing, the fairways are green and lush and going to be beautiful,, but,, why let all of us and the workers ride thru and tear up the place. The greens are a nightmare, they are perfect, they are soft and fast and VERY hard to read. They are tough to score on and thats OK. The bunkers are wet and hard,, Staff is always good to us, beers after are a must. Yardage markers are a problem,, maybe there isnt any $$$, or maybe they are not worried about it right now, we will wait and come back when it gets its act together. A hard,fun track.

This course was simply not much fun. Admittedly, it has a very difficult slope of 145 from the tips, and 137 from the blue.. so I expected a challenge. That said, the fairways were absolutely terrible, muddy + damaged (even though we haven't had any rain to speak of in weeks), the bunkers were like hard-pan clay, and the few yardage markers completely innacurate... That wouldn't have been such a problem if the advertised GPS carts actually existed.. but as of 5 days ago, the fleet has been replaced with non-GPS carts, and the sprinkler heads hadn't been marked!
So perhaps a discount?? Not a chance, try 10 bucks more for holiday rates.

As for the course layout - it tries to make up for the poor design with a couple of fun highly elevated tees (200+ feet), but even those generally found a way to disappoint me. After crushing a 300+ drive from an elevated tee to the absolute dead-center of the fairway - I was rewarded with a 20 degree downward lie to the hole. I don't mind being punished for innaccuracy off the tee - but that's a bit sadistic for my taste.

Bottom-line, there are plenty of beautifully designed, challenging layouts like Desert Dunes, Lost Canyons, and Angeles National that are worth the price of admission. Hidden Valley is just an imposter.

They have raised their prices & now charge $55 for weekdays. Course is in similar shape as last time although there were less overwatered areas. Sand traps generally had puddles in them or were hardpacked and unplayable. It almost seems like the sandtraps are being used to drain the water??? Finished in 4.5 hours due to jerk in front of us who looked for balls on every hole. Marshall came by on the 16th hole and told us to speed up but we were being delayed by the fool in front of us. Now that the rates are higher I may go elsewhere.
