Played this course for the first time on Monday, May 11th at 10am. We knew this course was long and we had originally planned to play from whites but we figured how often do we get a chance to play the longest course in California (at 7561 yards, this course is longer than most PGA Tour courses). We played from Jack's Back Tees - they don't regularly allow you to play the back tees unless you're a single digit handicapper. Being 18 handicappers we really had no business playing from those tees but there were no immediate tee times after us so we said what the heck!

You don't begin to grasp how long this course is until you see the blue tees and have to either walk up a mound or keep driving your cart 50 yards further back to the Back tees. I shot a 99 with a mulligan but I had an outstanding driving day. I hit almost every fairway. That's really the key on this course, if you miss the fairway short or in the trees and punch out, you're still 384 yards away on your 3rd on a Par FOUR! Driving it long is more important that going straight, a lot of holes will accept wayward shots that you could hit a good second shot. I mostly played for bogey and tried to avoid the big numbers. Drive, 3-wood 2nd and pitch 3rd - 2-putt bogey, I'm happy! Thankfully some of the longer holes are severely downhill and downwind (some tee boxes are 3 stories above the fairway). You get some serious hang time.

The layout and holes were interesting and extremely fun. The condition of the course was excellent - however there were some bare spots but no big deal. Some of the views are pretty breathtaking. The greens had little undulation but were nice and soft. Putts held their lines and we didn't notice any bumpiness (however we did play in the morning on a light traffic day). The greens were well manicured but small, tough to hit in regulation. The sand was absolutely horrible, more like dirt from a motorcross show.

The clubhouse is exceptional, good food and an elegant restaurant. The practice areas were some of the best anywhere. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Overall we very much enjoyed this course. It's a hidden gem in Chino Hills. We will definitely be coming back, although I think next time we'll stick to playing the White tees!

Nice course, very long. Especially last hole which plays 677 from the blacks. Played the whites except that last hole, had to try it. Course is in decent shape. Not amazing, but better then typical muni quality. Some bunkers are great, some are hard. Lots of parallel fairways and you will have people hitting through yours here and there. Nice layout and a very hot customer service chick!

Played the South course on Friday 13th...took over 5 hours...waited on every shot! Usually love playing the course, but today was too much...the tee boxes were very very thin...sometime like teeing up... Continue »

Usually love playing the course, but today was too much...the tee boxes were very very thin...sometime like teeing up on hardpan...the greens were great and fairways were ok....looked like they were sanding the greens on the North course so beware....very challenging..so go play..just not on a friday and not on the 13th!!!

Played a tournament on 2/28. Course was in prettey good shape with all the rain. My only complaint was the fivesome in front of us. We waited quite a long time to hit our approach shots on every green... Continue »

Los Serranos is one of my favorites. It's in the usual condition for January. I noticed new sand in the mud traps on the North last time I was there. It's time to buy a truck load for the South.

Played the south today 1-5-09. This course is in terrible shape. Newly planted trees are dying, with broken staked trees, lawn is dying, with lots of bare spots. traps have little sand and lots of dirt and rocks. This is the worse i have seen this place. No work is being done at all, just mowing what little grass is left. Even with reduced rates it is bad. Greens are just ok. need to hire some workers or get those that are working to do something. The only time you see them is when they leave the parking lot at 2:00. Thats the fastest they move.

We were 2nd group out on 12/23. Cold and wet. Conditions are good for this time of year. Greens were immaculate. Rest of course is in just average shape. It's a great walk. Worth the trip. Fair... Continue »

Wow, this course has amazingly gone DOWNHILL!!! Lets start with the tee time issue which may have simply just been an anomaly, but apparently their online tee-time booking "double-booked" alot of tee times. Our scheduled tee time was at 8:00 a.m., due to the double-booking we didn't tee off our until 8:45 a.m.

Fairways were really shaggy and at times it felt like I was in the rough instead of the fairway. THERE IS ALOT OF CONSTRUCTION GOING ON, they are placing new bunkers and so forth....definitely didn't get my "moneys worth" based on course conditions.

The greens were surprisingly in good shape...most courses have alot of Poa Annua growing out of them. Los Serranos has managed to keep the Poa Annua out and the greens are in really great shape with very little if any pitch marks to my eye. They are over-watering them due to the heat I suppose, so you must play all carry because it will not roll to the pin.

I was in a few bunkers, mostly greenside bunkers and they played pretty consistent with lots of sand to go through and make that nice "thumping" sound to get out of the trap.

The starters were pretty nice guys and they handled themselves pretty well for having a few irate golfers due to the double booking issue I mentioned earlier....I don't know, based on todays' course conditions I definitely would not come back and pay $71 (with a cart) to play this course. I was here a few years ago and many Eucalyptus trees have been cut down and lots of new baby staked trees are all over the place. Personally, I probably won't be back until 10 years from now...wait for all the construction and those trees to grow out some. Maybe then, the course will be in great shape!
