Well my son asked to play here last week. The greens are looking better than the last time I played here. Fairways eh still no improvement. Tee-boxes really need to be redone in my opinion.

Slow play was once again a big problem.
Other than that, it is looking better.

So, our group of 16 was at General Old this morning and the wind was 20-35 mph and gusting even higher. I turned to the very nice fellow in the temporary pro shop and asked him if he would mind us playing somewhere else and he said he didn't blame us one bit. That's when I started calling around. Moreno Valley, Dos Lagos, Indian Hills, etc. All said it was either very windy or they couldn't get us out until noon. As a last resort, I called Whispering Lakes and the guy there said there was little to no wind and he would be happy to get us out within the hour. We were off to Ontario!

Yes, this is not Augusta National and there are tons of coots, ducks and geese everywhere. And yes, the tee boxes mostly suck and the fairways have just enough grass to hit off of and there is no clubhouse, marshal or cart girl, but, the greens were very nice and the bunkers were (mostly) playable. Oh, and no wind!

You might not want to play here everyday, but between the customer service and the greens, we labeled this (unanimously) "A Good Emergency Course".

I rather play Colton for the price.
1 thing? The pace of play in the early morning is fast. And they do have rude regulars who even push and hit up on you. We played 9 holes in an hour 10 minutes walking. And we were still pushed by regulars.
Players beware!!!!!! they will hit the ball up on you before you move off the greens!!!!!!

I guess when your expectations aren't very high, you tend not to be disappointed. Although I had not played here for a few years, I kind of knew what to expect. Scruffy conditions, questionable maintenance, but the greens were reasonably good, in fact rather decent!

Hey for $12 what do you expect! Staff was accommodating and allowed me to tee off first, which permitted me to zip around and get to work. As long as the greens are good, I can live with the rest of the conditions. (winter rules mandatory here)

The biggest surprise for me was the clubhouse was gone ! Just as well, it was rather shabby and somewhat of an eyesore.

Cons.... fairways terrible..... sprinklers going thru the day as if they didnt expect golfers after 10am.... no beer girl......cow dung smell ......club house is a double wide trailer............ did i mention no beer girl.....

The condition of the greens really stand out here. The rest of the course is in lousy shape. You will get good practice hitting from bad lies both in the fairway and off. The bunkers are raked leaving huge grooves in the sand, not good. What is good is the green fee. This is just about the cheapest course you will find in Southern California. Therefore, the poor condition of everything except the greens are forgiven by me.

Starter said the groups were regulars and knew how to keep pace and he wasn't lying. Tees were uneven in some areas. Fairways were thin, but few bad lies and rough was fair. I thought the greens were great, soft, but ran fast. Only a few unfixed ballmarks. The small greens were challenging, and the sand was great. There was only 1 I was in that wasn't raked. Overall, not the greatest course, but decent for the price.

The small greens are really this courses only defense. They are a bit slow but roll well. The rest of the course is ,,,well you will get bad lies out there. I should bump the ball but I don't. It adds to the challenge. The tee boxes are wavey and a mess. However, with such a cheap green fee it is well worth it to play here. The 6th is now a par 4. Brand new soccer fields adjacent to this hole are the reason for the change. It is not a bad hole. An iron is required unless you want to flirt with the two new nasty fairway bunkers.

Because I know what to except when I play here, I am not disappointed. The greens were as expected the best part of the course. The fairways and rough - not so good. The "ambiance" is not great, but for $12 and the staff is always very accomodating and allows me to jump off alone at first light, it serves my purpose, when I need to get around in a couple hours and have business in the area. Actually the course has some decent holes, and the addition of changing # 7 into a par 4 makes the course somewhat better. (Although it took away a "birdie hole")
