As we could not play our regular Sun courses due to aeration and tournaments we opted for here (I was out voted LOL). This is an old school course with some of the smallest greens I have seen in years (and they were just aerated). The course unfortunately sits across the street from a LARGE dairy farm. And yes it stinks. And there are flys all over the course. I would not recommend this place unless one is desperate and has no other place to play. Yes the workers are nice and the price of $27 with cart is great for a Sun. I am not going to go any further with this review. I would not play here again

Staff was friendly and on time, I thought of this course fron years ago that it was what I call a dog track.

Although there are parts that need attention, I was pleasantly met with almost perfect greens, and boy are they small. They rolled and looked very nice.

The tee boxes were really nice also , with some un-level spots. I have seen a lot worse.

I was only in one bunker that had wet sand in it, but for the most part they are raked and had good coverage.

Fairways were the best I've seen here for sure. Near the end of our round though they had sprinklers going in the middle of the fairways. I thought it was a nuisance, but it also showed why the course has turned around in greenery throughout the playing areas.

The course is forgiving off the tee, with some challenging par threes. Like I said the greens here are tiny. Pretty flat too. Overall I enjoyed the conditions . The price was very good.

Grass range was nice to hit off of, but the landing area was sketchy.

Not beverage service but the clubhouse has a nice patio area to relax in after the round.
That is if you can get used to the cow smells in the vacinity across the street.

Good value here and good conditions on a so so layout. I would play here again.

Looking for some place to play early, which was inexpensive and walkable. Whispering Lakes came to mind. Since it had been a while since I last played here, I figured why not. Arrived at the course well before 6am and it was already crowded. Had to do a whole bunch of negotiations with the starter to get me out before the regulars, but thankfully, the first group indicated it would not be a problem if I went out alone first. Thanks !

I never have high expectations when I play here, and today was no different. The greens were nice. Decent speed, receptive and rolled true. Greenside bunkers were well maintained, but very thin layer of sand. The rest of the course is not good. Fairways have some areas with grass, but lots of bare spots. Tee boxes were awful. Not level, bare areas, heavy divot damage.

I could complain about conditions, but for $16, it's tough to b$tch too much. Hey it's golf in the middle of winter so can't be too unhappy. (I could still be living in Chicago)

Headed out to play Whispering Lakes this morning. Few guys from the shop wanted to play this place as it is never in any play rotation. I haven't played here since the 90's so the clubhouse being gone and the flipped 9's was new.

Man, this place. Yes its inexpensive, however, hmmmm.

The course was patchy in spots but they are watering it like crazy. Lots of maintenance guys doing their thing. Some of the tee boxes were pretty raunchy, like I was a little surprised. Like, they just dropped the tee markers anywhere. On hole 12 I was like d%mn ! this is considered the rough in most spots and it was a tee box.

The traps were all wet, all 3 I was in and all my friends were in. Just like that am cement style from the sprinklers. They do water this course.

The greens were slow but a lot better than some of the other 35/40 dollar places you'll play locally. Santa Anita being one. The greens are small and flat so its a peaceful putting round without getting into too much trouble. They were seeding some of the greens on the back when we were out there as well.

Pace of play was ok, it was a little busy out. Great value for 24 bucks to walk.

1. the gulley on the left side of hole 8 has been filled in with mulch making the hole much less demanding, the gulley was stinky nasty and now looks much better but i preferred the challenge.
2. the huge pit on the right side of hole 15 has also been filled in with mulch, no more lost balls for the slicers. once again making the hole much easier. too bad as it would have been perfect for a lake. just another city run muni with fair conditions at best,decent driving range but has a very nice short game area. pop was 4:45 for 23 holes, we played a few over because of slow players in front, never pushed. 28 to ride at 10:30 ok for todays new reality. but only 16 to walk which is quite fair. my personal fun factor would be a solid 7.

Played today and the Course is in much better condition. Last time I played it the rough was up to the knees in some places but today, well the course is looking better good. Tee boxes were good, fairways were in very good shape, greens real nice and smooth and the bunkers were just okay but playable. The Driving Range is now open along with the practice putting green. The course is now allowing 2 in a cart unless you do not feel safe. If you do not feel safe with a another player in the cart with you than you can request a Cart for yourself. Wearing a Mask is now optional at the Course and most players were NOT wearing a mask today. "Know before you go"

With tee times difficult to come by this past week, felt lucky even to get in a round at a decent time. With a 12:54 start at Whispering Lakes in Ontario, our threesome went off on time and played from the blue tees - one walker, and two in a cart that died a slow death only to be abandoned halfway down the fairway on 17. It was my first-ever visit to Whispering Lakes and I had low expectations based on past reviews, hearsay and of course that familiar view of the 4th hole from off the 60 freeway that I had passed by a thousand times in my life. I was curious but dubious it was going to be a great experience. At the end of 18, most of my concerns proved true, but there were some silver linings. The layout is pretty direct but very, very narrow with a lot of holes bordering some urban concrete boundaries that are intimidating to say the least. Under normal circumstances, this would not be all that horrible, but the current rough at Whispering Lakes is bordering on the ludicrous. It's very clear that it has not been touched since the shutdown so it's thick as hell, grabby and near impossible to find a ball that's even just 20 yards down the hole since you just took a full swing at the last one and it got caught up in all that junk. Again. So yeah, find the fairways or forget about it here right now. I'm sure it's not so bad at other times. The fairways are in okay shape and the greens, while not pristine looking or in perfect shape, actually run fairly quick. But the surface conditions are inconsistent from hole to hole, and some of them are quite tiny. A lot of the areas immediately around the greens though were in very nice shape. Bunkers? A nightmare. Very thin and hardpan for the most part. Tee boxes were okay, often quite narrow and sometimes not level, but predominantly okay. POP was actually quite good and surprising since the group in front of us seemed to not be in much of a hurry, but we finished in around 4:45 so that was quite okay on a beautiful Inland Empire day. Driving range was closed so that was a bummer, but putting area was nice. There were quite a few water features on the course, which shouldn't be surprising thanks to its name, but then again Woodley Lakes also shares that moniker and barely any of that water is ever in play. That's not the case here so you'll have to be aware. But right now, the absolute menace on this course is the rough so beware if you head that way.

Whispering Lakes has always had the reputation of being a not very well kept up Course. It wasn't always like that. Back in the early 60"s this course (then called Ontario National) was a Premier Golf Course and would hold many major golf events. Some of the great players of that era (The PGA tour) would stop there and play like "Nicklaus, Palmer, Casper, Boros, Demeret and many great players of that era. In addition to that many of the old bands like "Duke Ellington, Sammy Davies jr. Wes Montgomery and countless others would preform there at their" Tiki Room lounge" or commonly known as "the Royal Tahitian" which you can see the remains of that Tike Room where the Cart Return area is today. But when the lower deserts golf and resorts like Palm Springs and there on started to evolve this Course (W. Lakes) would become neglected and soon after would just become another typical Municipal City golf course, controlled by the City of Ontario and then renamed "Whispering lakes in the early 90's. Soon after the City of Ontario almost demolished this course in favor of Condos but many of the locals fought this decision by the City and kept it but would NOT put any funds into the Courses condition and that is why this Course is in the Poor condition it is in today. Now the City soon after destroyed the #6 par 5 to a ugly looking par 4 by taking half that Par 5 #6 and making it a Soccer field. Much more to say about that but lets move on to the condition of the course today. As expected the fairways are still in very poor condition, bumpy and hard to find a decent flat lie after a good drive shot. The tee boxes are somewhat decent in some areas of the box but still needs much work but to my surprise just about all the bunkers had much sand in them from what I could see. The greens where the best part of the Course, well maintained and very fast which made my round more enjoyable. Pro Shop personal was quick and friendly. Being Christmas eve the Green fee rate was fair at $34 bucks to ride. This course being only 7 minutes from my house gets a fair amount of players but I truly believe that in the future this course will loose its battle of survival and be the sight for Condos one day because (financially) this Course is just barely hanging on just by a thread. In my area we have already lost "Empire Lakes", Mountain View and soon to lose "Paradise knolls" the only Course in the area is "Goose Creek" which the rates recently just went up.
