WARNING: Did you get new wedges for Christmas? Bring your old ones if you play here. See bunker conditions below for more detail.
Played Yucaipa Sat. 1/4, after 11AM. Got a great online deal.
First thing I noticed driving up is the new clubhouse they are building, more on that later.
I really enjoy the layout here, good amount of water hazards, good placement of the bunkers and great design of the greens, but overall I come away disappointed more often than not.
On the first hole I hit a horrible approach shot into the bunker, just as I was digging in to hit my shot, I noticed a rock about the same size as two fingers on your hand, right in front of my ball. The bunkers here have plenty of sand now since the last review, and plenty of rocks, mostly the size of small-medium size marbles. I was in at least 3 bunkers and they were all like this, good sand, full of rocks.
T's are not over seeded, dormant, with signs of thinness and bareness coming through already.
Fairways are dormant with OK lies, I was probably being over generous when I rated them a 6.
Greens are running medium-ish speed, I did notice some fungus issues on at least one green, #2 comes to mind, great design though.
5+ hour pace, thankfully the holidays are over, waited on every shot but not to long. The guys ahead of us, liked to park between their balls, good if it was only 20 yards, bad if it was 80. How about drop your partner off at his ball, go to yours and hit, return and pick up your partner? Just a suggestion. Marshall came out around the 5th hole and pace picked up, so thanks for that, but it was pretty packed with no real relief.
The rough around the greens are not over seeded, it looks like this- a fist size clump of grass, followed by a few inches of thin grass, than another fist size clump x 100, not ideal for chipping.
I am not a big clubhouse type of guy and I couldn't help but think, why are they spending money on a clubhouse, when that money is sorely being missed on the maintenance of the course.
