Played yesterday and teed off about 9:45 and finished right at 5 hours. A lot of people out for the holiday. Customer service is always great here from the guys at the bag drop to the pro shop.

Fairways were in very good shape, a little firm in some places but still enough you could dig your club in. I was actually surprised it wasn't firmer considering the lack of rain.

Some of the rough is spongy. I'm not sure what type of grass this is but the ball can settle in it and it's really not thick rough. There is also the waste areas which is desert. Balls can be found but that is slim.

Greens were better than the last time I played here but I would still consider the greens slow. I would like to see the pace of the greens faster. I would say that you can pretty much aim directly at the hole and most putts will not go that much offline.

Tee boxes were generally good. Par 3s have more damage and I'd like to see them move some of the markers to let some of these divots heal.

Overall enjoyable on a hot day, I'd just like the pace on the greens to pick up a tick but that's just how I like them rolling.

Played 6-15-15 first out joined by another single. finishing in about 3 hours. Course is in very good shape. Tee boxes were level and lush. Fairways were very nice with ball sitting up nicely. Rough was not that long and not much of a factor. Was in one sandtrap that had very soft white sand. Greens were in great shape rolling smooth, but very slow for my taste. Staff all around were great.

Played in a tournament here today in the pm and there was an am tournament finishing up which made it a little slow to start but we flew toward the end.

Greens were a little shaggy, sandy and slow. If you have played here you know how great these greens can be. Right now they are just up to those standards. I'd say in a few weeks they should be good again.

Fairways were great. Nicely mowed and a real treat to hit from. Didn't really see that may divots out there but we were all laying the white tees so maybe they weren't in the normal landing areas.

Rough is not that bad but the ball can settle down on some of this grass. Good thing it was a tournament so we could place the ball.

Bunkers were also great. Hit one shot out of it and retrieved a couple. Sand was nice and soft, you can really splash the sand out.

Customer service was top notch as always. I've always had a great experience with all the employees here. They really seem to take pride in their work and making sure you get a great experience.

Enjoyed our day at Maderas. It has many quite steep holes as it goes through canyons. Greens are fast and true. Often they have large undulations which can be challenging. Fairways and bunkers good... Continue »

Enjoyed our day at Maderas. It has many quite steep holes as it goes through canyons. Greens are fast and true. Often they have large undulations which can be challenging. Fairways and bunkers good. PoP was 4.25 hours teeing off at 11.30 on Tuesday. No GPS on the carts, which would help given the elevation changes. Service very good and club house facilities are excellent.

Challenging course, great condition, fast pace, perfect service - what more can one ask for?

Played Maderas on 1/22 in the morning as a single, and was able to finish in just over 2 hours. The course is in great shape and looks fantastic with the tan dormant Bermuda rough bordering bright green fairways. Condition overall is excellent, some of the best I've seen at Maderas. Service is country club perfect, and the whole place makes you feel like you are in a nice little club. Greens were excellent, with little ball mark damage and rolled nice and true. Rack rates aren't cheap, but in the premium course category Maderas represents a good deal.

Got out early this morning. Top notch in every way. Service was perfect. Everyone goes out of their way to make you happy and comfortable. Rough is dormant and had a couple bare spots, but that is me nitpicking. Everything else is great. Very challenging layout that tests your entire game.

Only down side is the greens fee. But you get what you pay for. Got the cash or want to splurge? This is a great place to play.

It's hard to knock Maderas and there's no reason to. It's great in every way. The service is top notch, along with the course design and conditioning. It was my Dad's Bday and everyone knew it from the valet at the bag drop, to the front desk, and the "Range Ambassador" - which he really was. That guy offered course advice, knew all about Troon managed courses, helped my Dad with his clubs in / out of cart, and even produced a band-aid when he needed one. That's before we ever got to the first tee. It just got better. The course is looking really good and the weather was perfect. Greens ran true....too true. I got really lucky and drained back-to-back birdie putts of 42' and 90'. Yeah, lucky is an understatement. It was once in a lifetime. So, head to Maderas for your own one-in-a-lifetime - it won't disappoint. Lastly, pace of play is excellent as it's a shoulder season out there before the snowbirds come to SD. 4:30 is the goal with Troon and it happened. Take advantage....just saying.

Each hole unique, many hitting over waste areas, bunkers with deep soft sand, roughs being the tall fluffy type with the ball settling a bit down, and challenging putting surfaces. I can't comment on the greens themselves since they had just punched them about three weeks prior, and although most were good, a couple showed signs. I'd imagine in two weeks they'd all be absolutely perfect.
For me, this is the kind of course where one treats themselves occasionally to the finer thinngs in golf. Although pricey, there's deals out there that get it down under a "C" note if you look.

Played at 8am on a Tuesday in exactly 4 hours. $99 included a grass drving range and 2 bottlesss of water. Staff met me in the parking lot and helped me find my way inside. Counter staff was very pleasant and professional. Starter Jeff was also very helpful. Course was in very good condition and worth the money. Greens large and undulating. A little slower than they look. A long drive from the OCbut I would do it again f the opportunity presents tself again.
