Played on 2/25 at 7:30 for the first time and the course is in great condition especially for winter golf.
Greens: Perfect, smooth, medium to fast and "holding"
Fairways: Excellent, green and they had body to them, no thin hardpan lies
Rough: Excellent, 2-3" high, no hardpan lies
Traps: probably the one very average condition, the one trap I was in was hard packed sand.
Customer Service: very helpful in the Pro Shop
POP: just under 4 hours.
Probably the best conditioned course I have played this winter, can't wait to go back soon!

Made my first trip out here this morning. This time of year, they don't begin play until 8:00 am, so they told me if I arrived by 7:30 as a single I'd likely be able to get out in the first few groups. I showed up around 7:25 and the starter ended up slotting me in the second group off the first tee (they send groups off of 1 and 10). The group in front of us wasn't very quick and then on the back nine they had people in front of them, so POP was not super impressive for being one of the first groups off. We finished in almost exactly 4:30.

The course is in very nice winter shape. Fairways are mostly very good, rough a little less consistent, tee boxes excellent and bunkers seemed good. The greens are the real highlight, though, very lush and very fast. I feel like lots of courses have fast greens right now, but the reason they're fast is because they're thin in winter. The greens at Camp Pendleton Marine Memorial were very lush and in prime condition.

There was one negative, but really it was a result of how good the greens are right now. The 13th hole was cut on a slope, and as the greens dried out, the pin placement was a bad choice. Me and a couple other guys in my group had short putts that rolled up near the hole and then right back to us (4-6 feet below the hole). It was pretty crazy, because the slope didn't look that severe.

Overall I really enjoyed the layout. Quite a good test, too – 6,865 yards from the blues and a few good elevation changes on the back nine. $35 walking rate on a Saturday morning is hard to beat. I will definitely be back soon.

We were lucky to play the course on the 1st day they finally open all 18 holes for play after doing maintenance on the course. Let me just say.. it was a great day of golf.

We were lucky to play the course on the 1st day they finally open all 18 holes for play after doing maintenance on the course. Let me just say.. it was a great day of golf.

Greens were super fast but at the same time quite receptive to well struck balls.
There were still a lot of ground under repair esp close to the cart path areas but it does not affect play at all.
Wind was blowing in the afternoon and it affected club selection quite a bit.
I like the design of the course. There were no water hazards but plenty of challenges.

Great practice facility. Staff were all excellent, from the proshop to the snack bar - everyone was lively and eager to offer assistance.
Definitely a must play.

I really enjoyed my round at MMGC. This course is very well designed. It is tree lined with some elevation changes. Reminds me a bit of Industry Ike. A solid player's course, which puts premium on accuracy off the tee. Fairways are not too narrow, however you have rough and trees to contend with if you miss the short grass. Greens were medium/fast and smooth. Pace of play was 4.25 hours on a Friday. The course was in good shape. Practice facility was nice with a grass range, short game area, and large putting green. If you are in the area, this is a really good one. I would give 4.0 stars out of 5.0.

Played here July 27 for the first time. Very nice layout indeed. If you played El Toro in the past or Navy Golf Course in Cypress presently, this is the best track of the three. Since the course lies in a canyon, on shore breezes will help your first few holes. Turning into the wind, you need two more clubs heading into the green. The rough is sticky, killing errant drives withing 5-10 yards. The greens were medium fast.

At $36 to walk, this is well worth your money to play, however avoid Saturday if you leave from Orange County as the summer traffic is brutal on I-5. Next time we will take the Las Pulgas gate instead of taking 76 to Douglas to Vandergrift.

The golf course is in overall good condition. The greens are mostly smooth running medium speed and held shots well. The fairways are good with only a few small thin or overly wet spots. The rough is good close to the fairways but can be thin to bare on a few holes if you stray too far. The bunkers appeared to be good (was not in one) but my playing partners didn't have any complaints. The tee boxes have plenty of grass but many are not level. There is a grass driving range, large putting green, and a chipping green with bunker. The course is an enjoyable layout with some elevation changes.

Played yesterday for 50 bucks Sunday morning for the first time.

Really enjoyed it. Can't believe it's been open to the public for two years and i never played it.

Great location - nestled in the canyons with no housing tracks and just the sounds of nature. Greens were spongy and receptive with very few divots. Old trees line the course...like a previous reviewer mentioned its like an upscale muni or an aged wine. Some nice elevation changes. Back 9 was very windy.

Sand traps were good with an occasional trap under renovation. Finished in less than 4 hours. Cart girl was dependable.

Windy and cool upon first arrival; then no wind and warm; then the wind returned. Loooooooooong layout up then back down around the canyon. Amazing Greens. Large, beautifully level and ran quite true on most. Subtle nuances to the greens made you really think about your shot. Not one green was a straight easy roll to the hole. Just Beautiful Greens!! Appears to be taken care of and folks fixed their ball marks. Fairway was short kakulia grass so you roll out on the Big fariway shots didn't typically happen. Distance was from the air. This course is lined with mature trees, making you shape a lot of your shots. Bunkers were mostly well maintained. Tee boxes just reseeded and feeling mulchy and unmown. Fairways were fine with only minor bare/thin areas. Cart Girls were present and make their rounds quite frequently. Pro Shop Staff and Starter (Chris) were WONDERFUL!! Just having people like that greeting you make you want to return. Got a great price due to my DOD status. Nice practice facilities, Putting Greens, chipping area, and Grass/Matt Driving range. Adjacent to Par 3 practice course (great for the kids and anyone wanting to play with their short game). Facilities were EXCEPTIONAL. Pace of play was one of the BEST days I've played. Starter did a Great job pairing up twosomes to ensure 4 somes were spaced and a great pace enjoyed by all. I would definately come back again. This course makes you work for every putt to the hole. To fast/hard into the green you can certainly expect to be playing your next shot as a chip shot back up from the other side. Hole 18 was by far the MOST challenging/difficult of all -- it was also 'on the mend' with some patchwork in the middle tier. Greens certainly messed with your perception of how you thought they 'should' roll out. Started at 9:18 and finished at 1:35. Give it another 2 weeks once the tee boxes have all grown in and have been mowed and this will be ready to rock and roll. Will be going back. :)

a fun course to play with many specials open to the public. a few greens had many bare spots that need to be looked at. many of the tee boxes were scrappy although they seemed to be punched there was a lot of sand fills between the tee markers...that could have been helped by moving the tee markers out of those areas! sand traps were very consistent and good sand....unfortunately i was in too many of those...i would recommend playing there..but hopefully the greens and bare spots are taken care of next time.
