Played 4/17 and I'm not sure about all the low ratings. The greens rolled true and were a little quicker than average. It was a week before they punched. The fairways were fine. The tee boxes were a bit unlevel and chewed up but for the views and the price a very enjoyable round.

Not that great of conditions. Some tee boxes were unlevel. Rough was just about nonexistent and bare/weedy. Fairways were better, but not great. Bunkers were inconsistent. I was in a lot of them and some were very thin while some (one in particular) had a lot of sand. Greens held some shots while others rolled out. I've never been a fan of this course, so maybe it's just me, but the only reason I play here is because I get a free round once a year. If conditions were better, it would be a lot more enjoyable. As is, I'd pass.

Played 3/22 2:30 pm 4.5 hrs. The course has greened up a lot. It's looking much better and playing fine. Fairway's are 95% green. Not lush or even real soft, but just fine to hit from with good roll. Greens were a little firm at medium speed. There were lots of foot prints from the day, so the putts meandered quite a bit. T boxes were pretty beat up, but that's nothing new here. Over all it's in pretty good shape in comparison from recent years. If you're a fan of Mt. Woodson, the next few weeks will be worth a visit. They might be the best conditions of the year. Even though the greens were a little rough from the day, the evening scenery make's up for it. $25 (Players Club) make's it a great bargain and worth the trip.

Played 3/11 1 pm. 3:45. The general course conditions haven't changed much. Fairway's are in dormant mode. Slightly firm, but still very playable. Some tough spots around, but just play GUR rules and play on. Greens have improved greatly from a couple of months ago. I only noticed one hole (8th) that foot prints would not dissipate. They held shots great and rolled at med./fast. Fairly smooth as well. Even under less then ideal conditions, this course is still one of my favorites to play. One of the best courses to play in San Diego during twilight. Fantastic views !!

Mt Woodson is a rather short course that puts a premium on accuracy. Many shots are either blind or forced carries over heavily wooded canyons.
The greens are fair but require close attention to surrounding terrain that can influence breaks. There is some water on the course but generally does become a factor. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Very scenic and enjoyable course.

This course continues to confound me. I remember playing it when I really enjoyed it. But not this week.

This course continues to confound me. I remember playing it when I really enjoyed it. But not this week.

It's in a beautiful area with a few very nice holes. But many are just impossible due to conditions and narrow fairway designs. Especially from the blue tees.

The fairways were thin and brown, the greens were fast but bumpy. We all missed many short putts that contributed to three putts. The bunkers were mostly dirt.

The course was definitely suffering from winter conditions and financial issues.

And since players were constantly looking for lost balls, the pace of play was slow. We were hit into from the group behind us several times. I'm sure that they were as frustrated as I was.

The net, net was that several of our scores were astronomical! Even when adjusted!

This course is always a pleasure to play, friendly and knowledgeable staff, the course is in great condition for the low green fees and there always running some type of special. This course is target golf at its best and one of the most scenic courses I have ever played! Play during the week and it’s not usually busy. Highly recommend this course in San Diego County.

I confirmed with the course that they'll be starting ther course maintenance (punching 9 holes first then the other, starting on Monday 11/5 - 7) If you still feel compelled to go, you'll be playing one set of 9's twice.
RStang06(aka hubby) and my tee time was for 1008 ($29 for Senior Rate and Golf Hub Rate of $39 for me. Note: We are Players Club Members, but even that rate was higher than the Senior/Golf Hub rates. Jason gave me the Golf Hub price without having to book via that website and incurring their little service fee....worked for me :)
Starter pushed us out early so we wouldn't get behind a 3-some that wanted to 'play at their own pace'. Fine with us, but yet again - another Cold start... We quickly caught up to a 4-some on Hole 3; but they kept a pretty go pace of play going. We started at 9:50 and finished our round about 4 hrs later. I have to echo the previous Reviewer's comment about the Greens. Hole 1 and 6 were especially poor (very wet/soft and held foot prints; but a lot of that was due to the 4-some in front of us just trampling all around the hole. it was obvious they weren't picking up their feet as there were major scuffing and even chunks of the green ground up. ) 95% of the Greens were Very Nice; no major ball damage; rolled quite true and medium/fast - very puttable! Fairways were in good shape as well. Rolled nicely so you certainly want to pay attention to the slope and wind(light breeze today). Bunkers were fine/most had adequate sand to get out of (I made sure to rake up after my oops shots into them and tended those tromp/hit marks out from the groups ahead of us - Just the right Greenskeeper folk kinda thing to do) ;)
Course showed signs of the recent overseeding of rough and tee boxes. Majority of the tee boxes were quite nice. Lush/most level (a few not; but thats typical of most courses we've played). Most divots in the fairway were carefully filled and that was a nice to see plus for the course in my opinion.
When going over "The Bridge" from Hole 2 to 3, we noticed markings on some areas. Apparently they will be doing some maintenance on the bridge as well (most will agree there are a few areas that certainly need it). EE tix ride ;)
Good course amenities (Water Coolers/receptacles/2 comfort stops/ball washers). No Marshal on the course; but we saw the Cart Girl '3 TIMES!!' today - Wow!
Starter and Pro Shop staff are, as always, very pleasant. Par 70 course/Challenging due to 'target green' shot requirements and notorious winds; yet a Must Play when in the SoCal area. Red tees very Lady friendly.
Just another Reminder: 11/5-7 confirmed course maintenance. Will be going back for sure.

Played 10/28. The fairway's are in the best condition they been all year. Fairway's 95% green. Not lush..but green and easy to hit off. They have reseeded the T box's, but they are all ready getting beat up. If you've played hear before you know how bad most of the T box's are? The greens are receptive and are quick. My biggest complaint is the greens surface. I've never seen this before here. Foot prints don't go away ! So every golfer's prints for the day are all around the cups. Your ball needs 4 wheel drive to get to the cup.
