Course is playing better then it looks right now. The rain soften everything up, but then the recent frost has turned all the grass brown. The fairways look hard and dead, but played softer.
Greens were in great shape. They were running much faster then I've seen in a long time. Many foot prints, so there was a little bouncing, but over all they were in very good to great shape.
Traps & Tees still sucked and rough a mixed bag.
Over all it was in decent shape and still fun to play..... (If you're a Mt. Woodson fan)

They were working on all the T's so Blues & whites were together & @10-30 yards forward.
They have new carts. No GPS, but they make it around the course now.
Course overall in fair to good shape.

Have not played here since 1995. I remember this course as being "quirky" but also remember enjoying the course. What I did not remember was just how much stone work was involved in this course. I really enjoyed the entire experience. While I would not choose to make this daily fare, it was great fun. Being a "walker" this course is simply not walkable, even on my best day!

Overall the course was in good condition. The greens were just punched a couple weeks ago, but for the most part they putted fine, particularly the back nine. The tees were overseeded, so they will get a pass on rating. The bunkers were hit or miss. Some OK, some rather poor.

Lots of fun playing here. I won't wait 20 years to return. (Actually in 20 years I hope I will be looking down at my divots instead of up at them.)

Played 10/5/14 $19 3 pm Summer is hitting hard. The course has very dry conditions. The fairways are 70% greenish and 30% brown. They are pretty dry but sill played decently with good roll and semi decent lies. T boxs very torn up and woolly Typical Mt. Woodson style. Greens are about 1/2 way back from punching. Lots of bounces. Mt. Woodson is still one of my favorite twilight golf courses. It is a place that either you like it or hate it. I still enjoy playing this course even in only fair shape. And for $19 it was completely worth it.

Hadn't played MtW in awhile due to the recent reviews; but I've always enjoyed this course as I love the surreal location/vistas throughout (and the fun trek from 2nd Hole to the 3rd) ;)
Due to new owners of 'The Castle' at Mt.Woodson, they've routed traffic entrance/exit to the GC via the further areas of the parking lot. (I was told mainly to minimize vehicle noise/traffic as the Castle hosts many formal/semi-formal mtgs/events).
As you enter, you'll also notice they've relocated the Practice hitting nets, over adjacent to the chipping practice area, which is a fair distance from the ProShop.
Check in was pleasant as always, the Staff here are friendly and professional. Practice Green next to the starter was in excellent shape; but ran faster than the greens out on the course (for the most part). Starter was able to pair us up with another twosome and get us out about 15 mins earlier than our scheduled tee time. Realizing it is Summer, Ramona area gets very hot (and windy), and current drought conditions...my review will echo what many have already posted previously.
Pluses:
Greens were nice, receptive, unfortunately quite a few unrepaired/poorly repaired ball marks (not fault of course; just golfers with no sense of etiquette). Rolled medium to medium slow, fairly true.
Bunkers were less than impressive - minimal to non-existent sand.
Fairways? Looked as though they were aerated but not your typical hole style aeration. Looked almost as if a disc cutter; longer horizontal cuts into the fairway; but for the most part fairway hits resulted in decent lie for follow-on shots.
Rough was very playable, with some thin GUR areas.
Outter areas of the course show evidence of upkeep/trimmings/placement of bark/flowers, etc.
No cart girl this day, but there is ample to chose from the snack shop.
Water jugs throughout the course.
This course is extremely lady friendly at the forward tees.
Shot a good score of 97, with 2 blow up holes one on each set of 9's.
Pace of play was average 4.5 hrs...course kept things moving...we didn't have to wait long on any particular tee box.
Tee boxes were somewhat beat up, and placement of the tee markers were in some case, unlevel, and awkward feeling.
Regardless of all the somewhat negatives...I still enjoy this course. Hopefully future deals with option for earlier tee time (no restrictions), will keep us going back.
Don't give up on this course...it is a fun/challenging/ball stealin course.

Played at noon on July 12 for $45, but even that rate was no bargain - this course is in the worst shape I've ever seen it. Dry, burned out fairways with thin lies everywhere. Soft, even soggy greens with not only spike marks, but actual footprints left over from the groups in front of us. Sand traps with less than 1/2" of sand before your wedge is scraping the clay. Only saw the beverage cart 1x during a round that lasted 5.5 hours. Once we got to the par-3 third hole, we waited behind 1 or 2 groups on every tee box. Never saw a marshal or player assistant. Too bad because this course can be a fun challenge when it's in decent shape, but there was nothing positive to mention other than our carts didn't die ... unlike what happened with several prior reviewers.

The course is in a very hot hot area in the summer. So, it is going to brown, I totally get it...Therefore I will omit any criticism of brown spots in the fairways.... The skinny, good course gone bad. They do not have a range they have a net to hit in (which I understand) since not all courses have the space. However, how about you put maybe 10-15 balls in the net? There are none. I am sorry, I am not going to hit my gamer into the net. Tee boxes are fair to horrid. Probably my biggest complaint about the conditions, the fairway and greenside bunkers. The fairway bunkers are full of weeds and the greenside are more dirt/sand (you need more bounce)... I guess my frustration comes from the fact that I actually like this course. It is a fair test and fun layout but its going downhill... GREENS soft and tad slow but were healthy and rolled true. I doubt greens ever roll very fast here as a way to help out.

Finally, if you dont have GPS ----get some d%mn yardage markers. It borders on absurd that I have to drive around in circles up and down the fairway to find my number. Get some 4x4's and a few buckets of paint....pretty simple right? When did this go out of style? Maybe a shrub or two? Make sure each and ever sprinkler has a #? I dunno..lets figure it out. Slow play an issue? Well here one simple thing we could do to speed it up.

Their cart situation ( Lack of them) is continuing and possibly has gotten a little worse.
Your tee off will most likely be delayed after mid morning because you will have to wait for carts on the course to come off. If it's in the afternoon they might not make it up the hills. We had to push ours a few times. I've heard rumors that the problem will probably not be remedied anytime soon?

Cart issues aside the course is still fun and in decent playable shape.
