We played again yesterday, with one of our foursome from out of town, who said on virtually every single tee box " WOW ", where do I aim my tee shot? or " which way does this hole go, " or where is the hole?" I kid you not, he said this on almost every hole, and he's been playing golf for decades. I decided, since I'd played this course so many times, and continue to play it, to join their Players Club, so I am now " officially " biased. That being said, some of this information may prove useful to the readers of this web site and these reviews. Some true statments, in my opinion, which may help you understand this course: This is likely the tightest golf course you'll ever play The same people who complain about how tight it is end up saying " I LOVE this course "!!! It is short, which makes it a bit easier (please note I said " a bit ") Most tees show so little of the landing area you'll need specific advice on 18 tees. Even on the par 3's, you need advice because they offer countless other details important to your club and shot selection. On most courses, the GPS helps, here, the on cart GPS's seem to make things rather complex. Distances between greens and tees are so far it makes the course virtually unwalkable Some have asked " How in the world did they build a golf course in these mountains? You WILL lose golf balls, so come prepared. Personally, I think the greens are very fair, putt true, but they are small, narrow, and tough to hit. If you miss them, the pitch shots will hold the green, if hit properly. I think I am done for today, but I am taking another foursome, this time three newbies, to the course, next week. Enjoy!

I've played this course many times over the past 6 months, and I enjoy it every single time. It is tight by almost anyone's standards, and beautiful on almost every hole. Off the tee, most times you cannot get away with a bad miss. In fact, most times you cannot get away with much of a miss at all. This course is all about hills and tight fairways, so you generally won't want to play here unless you are OK with that type of hole, over and over. They consistently offer deals for discounted rates, and they seem to be much better at customer service throughout the entire course, grounds, clubhouse, pro shop, etc. I always get that " Welcome back " type feeling, even when it has been a while. They seem to treat newcomers and veterans the same way. Fairways are generally very consisent, but I could never call them lush. Greens are consisentently in good condition, but never perfect in any person's opinion.

Played last week. I don't play here that often, but this was the best I've ever seen this course. Some bare spots (even on the some greens). Bunkers were hard. Greens seemed very quick (but the course I played the previous day had very slow greens so maybe that influenced my opinion). Tee boxes didn't seem as bad as previous reviews made it seem. More lush and groomed than I remember it in the past. Good time to play it.

It will Help, but until they completely rebuild/re-level them, they will continue to be an issue for many. But I don't see that happening any time soon. I've played there so many times, they don't bother me. But, I understand they can be a disappointment for others. The bunkers are horrible. Just hard packed sand, but hey... they're a hazard ?? In comparison to past conditions the fairway's are in pretty good shape. Mostly green and fairly easy to hit from. The greens continue to be good to great. We tend to play twilight, so they can get a little bumpy, but still in very good shape. I heard they finally turned a profit after many years. So maybe there might be some improvements coming ???? Still one of my favorite SD courses and in decent shape right now.

Tee-boxes
Terrible. The worst part of the course. Chewed up on every hole. The blue and white tee-markers were playing from the same box on almost every hole and I'm sure that added to the terrible condition but when you can't find a single level area to hit from, it can get frustrating. Also the ground where you could tee-up on was concrete hard.

Fairways
Good. Mostly green, granted it rained Monday and Tuesday so that helped. There were a few burned out spots but anywhere I hit from was good and green. The roll on drives was also good.

Rough
Good. Not overly punishing and did allow for good shots out of it. No areas of overgrown grass.

Greens
Great. Soft enough to hold shots but firm enough to allow true rolls. They were in great condition and green. Very few divot marks and certainly the highlight of the round.

Bunkers
Fair to bad. They were wet and the sand they use here resembles beach sand not the white fluffy sand you'd expect. One fairway bunker on the back had no rakes, other smaller greenside bunkers had two rakes.

Etc:
Pace was excellent at right around 4hrs and no waiting for the group in front and no pressure from group behind. Staff was friendly although I never saw the cart girl and the grill was out of some essential breakfast items when we stopped at the turn. Overall, a good deal warrants a drive out to Ramona to play.

Played 9/2 $44 9:45 4:15 pop Course is in very good shape for for this time of year. They have a new management company running the course. The fairways had a few brown/burnt areas, but where mostly green and pretty lush. Which has not been the norm the last few years. The greens were in great shape. Running a little slow at maybe medium. A couple had some heavy ball mark damage, but most were in good to great shape. The Ts are still bad, but they apear to be trying to work on them. Traps were hard sand as usual. If your a Mt. Woodson fan and haven't played here in a while, it's worth a trip out. If your not a fan...well you still won't like it !!

I played this past Saturday, July 20, for $28. The course has seen better days but at that rate, it's a steal. The course is a stern test of your game and if you're not hitting them straight, it can be a very frustrating experience. The layout is unique and interesting. Some holes are like target practice and very unforgiving. The bridge going to hole 3 is fun and beckons memories of the Thundermountain railroad rollercoaster at Disneyland. The course lacks a driving range to warm up at which is disappointing considering how tight some of the first few holes are. Customer service was kind of spotty on this day. There was no starter and the cart girl came around twice. There was a tournament going on while we were there so I think most of the staff had their focus on them. There were a ton of unrepaired ball marks on the greens; most likely from the tournament. The greens also had some dried out patches but were definitely playable overall. Most of the tee boxes had significant divot damage and some weren't level. The rough was thin and fairways were spotty. There were also some signs of aeration maintenance on the back 9 fairways. Sand traps were decent with some being a little thin in coverage. Pace of play was excellent at just over 4 hours. Despite being critical of the course conditions, it was playable and I'll probably be back before too long. If you've never played this track, I consider it a must play.

Played 6/22 1:30 $32. P.O.P. 4.5 hrs. Course is in pretty good shape (For Mt. Woodson) They punched the fairways over a week ago and the marks are there, but overall in good shape. Mostly green with brown and bare spots mixed in. They played pretty soft even in the brown areas. The greens were great at a touch above medium speed and receptive. Traps & tees are their normal terrible. Weather was great at mid 80's. If your looking for pristine fairway's this is not your course. If you want a great challenge with fair to good conditions, you can find a lot to enjoy your day here.

This course is always pretty fun to play, if you don't mind losing a few golf balls!
