First time playing this course. ABSOLUTELY LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!! Verrrrry Lady friendly. Staff were Wonderful. Tee'd off at 9:28 a.m.; fog had lifted, wind hadn't kicked up yet, Course field of players was FULL with a tournament that came in after us. The course was challenging though....if you don't hit the ball straight you can certainly be out several boxes of balls throughout the day. Gorgeous Lush Fairways - BEST I've ever had the pleasure of playing off of. You certainly can't walk this course...at times thought the carts weren't going to make it up the various inclines...OH and that bridge they were talking about from Hole 2 to Hole 3...OH MY GOD!! Hang on...Mr Toad's double E ticket ride for sure. Breathtaking sceneray and vistas. Basic target golf...if you missed you didn't want to miss right/left or long. Undulating Greens; most protected on all sides by bunkers (only downside I can report during today's round...the bunkers were hard/compact with only several here and there worth writing about). Wind started picking up around noon and became a factor if you hit the ball high/long. Nice roll outs on many holes. I actually Par'd 3 out of 5 Par 3's and even Par'd one Par 4 (Hole 17) Every now and then I get lucky.
Getting around on the course to the next hole was certainly an interesting concept - sometimes confusing. A LOT of blind shots to the green. Thank God we were playing with 2 who play the course regularly. Pointers came in handy and thankfully we didn't get lost. Pace of play was normal for the amount of people on the course (4 1/2 - 5hrs). Greens were Beautiful (w/only minimal divots people neglected to fix - but I did my duty for the day and fixed as many as possible that were left behind). No Cart Girl on the course. Ranger stopped by and asked how I liked the course; as we had met/talked with him at the start of play. My comment, "I Love It!". Did I mention Gorgeous Lush Fairways? :0) 98% of the Tee boxes were in Great shape as well. WATCH OUT FOR POISON OAK!! Some areas of the cart path had it growing dangerously close. Don't recommend chasing balls into the puckerbrush...could end up with more than you bargained for. Can't wait to Play this course again. OH, and I only lost 1 ball allllll day long :) If you're a straight shooter - noooooooooo worries. Make sure you bring drinks/snacks, although they do have a nice little snack bar. Keep an eye out for the Great online deals this course makes available. Oh...and bring plenty of extra golf balls ;) Enjoy! :)

Played today, 1/31/12. The course condition was very disappointing. The last time that I played it I thought that it was coming back. But today, other than the greens, it was worse than ever. Actually the greens were quick and pretty true. There were bad spots, but compared to the rest of the course, they were good. Some were very hard while most were soft.

The fairways were dormant thin and hard. And on this course, like Salt Creek, that means trouble. They were like it hadn't rained in months.

The tees were very slanted, and torn up. And the bunkers had little or no sand in them.

The front nine is not fun for me, but I do like the layout of the back. I do remember enjoying Mt. Woodson when it was in good condition.

Played 1-15-12. Fairway's are dormant and thin but very playable. Greens are a little bumpy. The recent frost will take it's toll. I've never seen the fairway's this dormant. It must be a new program for better spring conditions? Ball rolls a extra 10-15 yards. This can be trouble on sloped fairway's like 13th (Trees on right) & 18th (water on left). Still a fun and challenging course and one of my favorites.

This is my favorite course to play in SD!
The positives:
1. 45 dollars with a cart on Saturday at 10:30 is a great rate!
2. Greens have never been better, they are medium/soft and I didn't see any bare spots.
3. Fairways are much better than last time, no dry spots and very lush!
4. This course is easy to score on if you stay in the fairway... If you get out of the fairway, watch out!

The Cons:
1. Some of the tee boxes are very hard to get the tee in, and a bit of unlevel-ness, but better than last time.

Check their site or GolfNow to get a deal!

Took advantage of a special e-mail rate on Monday ($25.00 after 1PM) and it was well worth it. Went out as a single at 1:30, played through a foursome on #3, and it was smooth sailing from that point forward; walked off the 18th green at 4:15! Can't recall the last time I played 18 holes in under three hours (with the exception of a round in Palm Desert in the middle of a scorching summer's afternoon) but when you make everything you look at, well, anything's possible.

Golf course is in good shape, especially the fairways. The turf looks like a carpet and the ball sits up just begging you to hit it; it's almost as if it's sitting on a short tee. Some small areas were tan rather than green but it's wall-to-wall turf no matter where you lie on the fairway. It's obvious the fairways have been generously watered as there was minimal roll off the tee box; in fact, my ball picked up some traces of mud on more than one occasion. However, conditions are by no means soggy; the maintenance staff seems to have it dialed in perfectly right now.

Overall, the greens looked healthy and rolled fairly true, although there is some evidence of unrepaired ball marks, but nowhere near what I've seen in the past or at other courses. They held beautifully, which made it quite easy to spin the ball back towards the hole if the shot dictated that type of approach. Green speed was moderate but that's to be expected; if the greens were cut any lower they would be susceptible to quick damage from Ramona's summer temperatures. But don't be fooled; get on the wrong side of the hole and a putt or two could easily get away from you.

Sand traps were perfectly raked (was I the only one in them today?) and the texture was consistent. Not a fluffy, light sand but not hard packed either. Easy to play out of and get a feel for the distance as well. Rough is about 1"-2" deep but not hard to handle, except when it comes time for a delicate shot from just off the green.

Mt. Woodson is a unique layout boasting a variety of holes that I always enjoy playing, especially when the conditions are good. If strong course management skills and a penchant for accuracy describes your game, chances are you'll score well here. The views are spacious and the homes do not encroach on the golf course. It's a relatively short track but can wreak havoc with anyone who tries to recklessly overpower it. A single-digit index can easily shoot 80+ here and wonder how it could be possible.

Didn't see any beverage cart on the golf course (not sure if they normally have one out there) but the staff (Nick was at the desk) was very friendly yet professional. Lot of positives here; I hope things continue in that fashion. If you haven't played Mt. Woodson recently, you owe it to yourself to take advantage of the current playing conditions and accommodating atmosphere.

Any one who has played here knows their T box's have had issues for a long time and have gotten a little worse. They are making a good effort and are improving the customer service and the course too. Still one of my favorite courses in San Diego.

I play this course often. It is still one of my favorite tracks. They have been bank owned for quite some time, but are starting to get the course back into shape. The greens are in over all good shape. The fairways are a little thin & dry but still very hitable. Many of the tee boxs are uneven. It is a short course but narrow. When I ask people if they like the course I alway's get the response of either they love it, or hate it. It is a fantastic course to be on in the evening and right now have some fantastic twilight rates. You don't have to hit it far here, but you do have to be able to keep the ball in play.

The Good: pretty empty course today allowing for quick play if desired. Unique course with lots of elevation changes.

The Good: pretty empty course today allowing for quick play if desired. Unique course with lots of elevation changes.

The Bad: very dry course. Some uneven tee boxes. Bare spots on greens and fairways. One fairway was punched and they had some kind of machine going over the punches to pick them up which put tons of dust in the air making the hole unenjoyable.

The Very Bad: a member of the grounds crew picked up and took one of my balls from the grass just of the fairway. When I alerted the GM of the course he didn't believe me and then decided it was a good idea to argue with me. I made my point and left.

There are better courses in San Diego at cheaper rates. When you throw in the poor customer service, I won't ever play here again.
