Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!I have been wanting to play this course for a long time and I wasn't really sure what to expect. Luckily I got to play a practice round for an upcoming tournament out there. I have to say I like the golf course. Its definitely not for everyone and it probably isn't my favorite course but it is definitely good with some really nice views. The staff was great and they really make you feel like you are in an upscale private club. I pulled up and they knew my name right away without asking. This is very much a target golf course and if you don't hit a straight ball, it could end up being a long day and lots of lost balls. Included in the greens fees is a forecaddie. I definitely recommend making sure you have the caddy if you are going for the first time. The conditions were pretty good all around but not immaculate. I was impressed by the bunkers and the green structures. It was pretty good lies mostly all around the course. The one thing that was a little disappointing was that the greens were really not fast at all. I was expecting super manicured private course types of greens. The ball rolled fine but they were not rolling any faster than a 9 on the stimp. All in all, I like the course and had a fun time. I am not going to be paying $250 for a round anytime soon though.
Well I haven't written a review in quite a while now. This was only the second time that I have played Torrey North since they re-designed the course. I went out on Monday April 9th and I think the course is very challenging but very fair. The conditions were more firm than I expected and the greens are almost rock hard. Its very difficult to get the ball close to the hole even for very skilled players. I'm hoping that the greens become more receptive sooner than later! I think the course is more fun to play after the redesign and the views are definitely better with some of the tree removals. All in all, this is an excellent course and the value is amazing for what you get especially if you are a resident. The fairways and tee boxes were both really good and the overall condition of the course was good, maybe a little more thin than I expected but still very good. The pace of play wasn't bad at all and it seemed like a lot of singles were getting out fairly easily on the day we played. Definitely a must play in San Diego and I'm looking forward to getting out there again soon. I believe they are punching the greens soon so that should soften them up after they heal as well.
Played out here this morning. I booked on golf now and had a 6:00 tee time. When we got there, there was nobody even at the course. The proshop didn't even open until 6:00. This is the only course I've ever been there before the staff. That being said, the course was in ok condition for the price. There were a lot of less than stellar lies on the course and a few tee boxes need some TLC. The greens were in really good condition though. That in my opinion is the most important part though. They were not rolling too fast but they were smooth and true. As always I like the layout of this course and have fun playing it. For the price its a good value!

I played out here yesterday. I really like the layout of the course. It looks like they just did some maintenance on the greens but it wasn't too bad. There were some very small punch holes on the greens. They were a bit bumpy and really slow. The overall course is nice. I would really like to get back when the greens are rolling better. The clubhouse and resturant are very nice and the price isn't bad either at $49 on a Friday
Just want to give everyone a heads up. Carlton Oaks is closed for the next three weeks. They are replacing all the greens. The driving range and resturant are still open but thats about it!
I played San Vicente today 7/21/11. As always I really enjoy this course. The greens were good. They were a bit softer than they have been in the past and they weren't rolling as fast but the ball rolled true. The rest of the course conditions were pretty good also. There were some bare spots in some of the fairways but nothing I would complain about. They are running a really nice special right now. We played for $32 and that included a breakfast sandwich. Its a bit of a drive to get to the course but I always rave about the course layout after I play there. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
This is one of my favorite courses around! What a difficult beautiful test of golf! Most golfers should not go out here expecting to shoot a good round because there is A LOT of trouble out here. The course has some amazing golf holes that you will remember forever. The 17th is just an amazing island green and very difficult from the tips. I understand they are punching the greens now but this course is a MUST PLAY! If you are an SCGA member then make sure you tell them that when you make your reservation. PGA west has a great deal on all their public courses for SCGA members! Enjoy your day out here and drink lots of water!
I played out here about 2 weeks ago and I must say that this course was a very pleasant surprise! I've played quite a bit of golf out in the Palm Springs are and this course a bit different than most. There were some tight driving holes out here and some really good risk/reward holes as well. I wasn't so sure how it would be driving up to the course but once I got out to the driving range and the first hole I could tell I would have my work cut out for me. The greens were really good! They rolled fairly fast and true with "wiggles". Give this course a shot if you've never been there.
Played Pala Mesa last week. I've always really like this course. The layout is fun and there are some really good golf holes that will challenge anyone. The course conditions were very good and the green rolled nicely. I've seen the greens roll much faster but they were in good condition. This is a course that is definately worth a visit. If you are from out of town they also offer a nice "stay and play" package. Hope this helps you out!
Played Cottonwood Ivanhoe today 5/19/11. I noticed there haven't been many reviews here. This is a pretty good old school golf course. There is nothing fancy about it and there is nothing tricky about it. I enjoy playing here because of the layout and the green conditions are usually pretty good. They punched here a little over 3 weeks ago and the conditions are coming along. They were a little bumpy but not too bad. One more week and they should be good to go. There are some good deals to be had out here also. We played a 2-some for $40 with our ilovegolfdeals.com coupon. They have two separate courses at cottonwood so you have some options. For the money its not a bad bet as long as you aren't looking for anything high end. The cart girls and the staff are all very friendly and the par 3's are very good.
Played Barona Creed today 5/4/11. I LOVE this golf course. If it weren't so darn expensive I would play there all the time! The course was in perfect condition. Everything about it was great. We played in under 4 hours today and never had to wait on a shot. The greens were smooth and held their line perfectly. This course has the feel of a private course. It's just a treat to get out there and play. The holes flow perfectly through the valley. Not only is the course great but so is their practice facility. I spend quite a bit of time before the round on the chipping green and I think that helped quite a bit today. I can't wait to get back out there on Monday for my tournament! If you haven't played here, do yourself a favor and make the trip. You won't be sorry.
I've done several reviews on this course and as you may know I really love this course! However I felt obliged to write a quick review after my last outing at Carlton Oaks. The course is in some serious need of Coot removal. The Coots are out of control and have absolutely ruined a few greens out there. All of the greens around the water have huge gouges and bare spots on them from where the Coots have eaten them away. I really hope the course can figure out how to get rid of the birds and heal the greens. The course is too good to be in this bad of shape right now.
