Found a hot deal for $54 on 11/7 at 11:40pm. Decided to set up a gk match with Mark and could not have picked a better day. Clear 72° with a light breeze made for an epic day. I have played this course quite a bit over the years and will continue to make the trek down from OC as the conditions are still great year round.

When arriving Mark mentioned the putting green has been removed and there is now just a very small 5'x10' putting surface to practice on but they have a practice area on the other side of the parking lot that we didn't know about. Its ok because I knew coming in that there is nets to warm up and that's usually all I need. Conditions were better than expected yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised with how green the fairways were. They were cut short and were a touch firm allowing for maximum roll out on tee shots. There is a debate if they are painted or not. I could not tell even after examining my divots, they just looked so good and played very well. If they were painted then I want to hire their staff to paint my house! Greens were medium speed, lush, and super soft. Even greenside pitch marks were leaving marks but it looks like players were doing their part by fixing the divots. As noted in the previous review there were some footprints by the end of the day which made for some adventurous putting but nothing to really complain about. I was in three sand traps and the two greenside traps were fine but the fairway trap needed more sand. Rough is a mixed bag ranging from thick grass to bare dirt if you got too far offline. Tee boxes were fine except #9 that was almost completely bare, I hope they address that soon.

This track has a few target golf tee shots required but eases up as you near the green. At a total yardage of 5900 yards it can still eat your lunch and you can easily rack up a high score if you attempt to overpower it. Weaving in and above an old oak tree forest the views are arguably some of the best in San Diego. The staff here is fantastic especially the lady working at Stoney Mountain Bar and Grill. The vibe at the course is very laidback, for those who have played before they use to have an Alligator warning sign after hole 1 sadly that is gone but they now have a sign before the famous bridge saying smile for the camera as a nod to amusement parks, I just love the humor! Do yourself a favor and get out and play Mt. Woodson and smile for the camera!

Played here today at 11:40 with mpisarski01 for our GK Cup match. TeeOff.com “Deal” time where we paid $54 each after 20% promo code. They’ve sold the land where the old practice putting green was located to the Mt. Woodson Castle, so they have a tiny practice green near the clubhouse and then another short game practice area elsewhere across the parking lot (maybe near the 7th hole somewhere?). We saw lots of twosomes out on the course, which seemed odd, but we were paired with two other guys and we followed a twosome initially until they played through a foursome who then was directly in front of us. We waited a bit on every tee but pace was good at around 4:20 total.

Conditions are really good, but aeration begins this week. Greens are mostly smooth, sometimes a little bumpy, sneaky fast and very soft. Full shots stopped quickly and the greens sometimes showed footprints when you walked around. I did notice a couple bare spots around the edges of one or two greens. Fairways are firm, fast, and really great, with consistent coverage of bermuda that I think was convincingly dyed green and Matt eventually thought was not dyed. It’s sort of a light green and seems too consistently all the same color to not be dyed, in my opinion. They provided really nice lies and tons of roll on any slopes. On No. 17, I hit a poor drive and had to just punch back into the fairway, and the ball kept rolling and rolling until it stopped just outside a greenside bunker at the bottom of the hill. Crazy! Rough is a mixed bag of deep bermuda where the ball sinks down in, thin patches, bare spots and everything in between. They had re-sodded an area right in front of the 10th green that was marked as GUR. Definitely a premium on hitting the fairways because you don’t know what you’ll get in the rough. I think I was only in one bunker and it was pretty thin, but not terrible. Blue tee boxes were mostly good except No. 9, which was really thin and had barely any grass between the markers.

Definitely recommended other than the aeration taking place soon.

Played 10/1/21 3 pm. Last hole played mostly in the dark with glow balls. Course continues to be in over all very good shape. Fairways are green Bermuda with good roll. Ball sits very nicely. There are a few troubled spots mixed through out, but not many interfere with play. Greens were in decent shape. A few dead spots mixed through out along the edges. They were very soft and foot prints were deep making many putts bounce and move. I think they are in need of some aeration soon. Tees were in their typical Mt. Woodson "fair" shape. Even with the bumpy greens it's still a recommend.

Played 7-11-21 3:45 $50 POP 3:50 Course is holding up well in the summer heat. Fairway's are olive green bermuda with very good coverage. Mostly great lies. There are some burnt areas mixed throughout the course, but over all in very good to great shape. Greens were their typical afternnon soft and bouncy. They are green, lush and receptive with a little Poana bloom. Mostly it's the afternoon foot prints that are the cause of the bumps. A little on the slow side, so you had to putt agreesively to counter act speed & bounce. Traps in fair shape. Tee boxs were decent. They get a lot of iron play so can be a little beat up. They have repalced the grass on the 8th tee and now it is in much better shape. Course was pretty busy, but we had no issues with pace and finished easily. Water coolers and rakes are back on course. Still my favorite twilight course in San Diego. Easy Recommend.

Course remains in very good shape over all. Fairway's mostly green and lush. They are bermuda grass with not much cushion, but played very nice with very good to great coverage. Greens were in good to very good shape. They are mostly Po annua and are seeding out now, so they can get bumpy and a little bouncy in the afternoon. They were receptive and ran around medium pace. Tees and Traps not in great shape as usual. Traps mostly thin & firm. Tees beat up, but in mostly fair shape. I've said it many times and it's still true. My favorite twilight course around.

Played Mt. Woodson for the first time Tuesday the 2nd. 1:20 pm tee time. Pop 4 hours. We were a twosome in between two foursomes. There is no gps and some blind tee shots as the group behind us hit up on us a few times mostly towards the finishing holes. The course shuts down next week for maintenance. Poa greens they rolled nice. Fairway was dormant and tee boxes were a mixture of grasses, dirt, but they were level. Rough was decent. I enjoyed the scenery, the forced carries. Water is in play in a few holes. I bet a lot of balls are lost in the canyons. Driving range is a batting cage. Overall this course is great . The scenery really makes up for the conditions and I cant wait to get back after maintenance is done.

painted green but pretty firm but many rough spots. Greens good. Crazy bridges between holes felt like Disney world ride. Challenging tee shots. Fun course would be good for two man scramble with cocktails. Fun course.

Played 1/2/21 8am Very cold.... Winter has set it's claws, but course is still playing well. Fairways dormant and very tight, but play just fine and consistent. Frost delays on many days. They have been painted green. Greens were in very good shape. Rolling nicely at a touch above medium and receptive. There are few troubled areas mixed through out the course in the fairway's and even a couple spots on a couple of the greens, but mostly had little effect on play. Over all the course is playing in good to very good shape for winter conditions.

Amazing beautiful Course. Very well mantained. Professional staff this time around which is a pleasant surprise compared to my previous visit. Challenging course made to humble intermediate players and down right petrify beginners.

I will say I only come here once or twice a year.
Play it for the challenge and for the Greens.
