This course is a lot of fun. 1 or 2 greens had some sun damage but nothing major. Fairways are in great shape. Tee boxes give tons of beautiful views. One or two were uneven. Greens were punched last week but they’re healing up nicely will be a lot of fun in a week or two. Sand traps had great sand. Some were a little thin, but still nice loose sand. Five stars for this course. One of my new favorites.

Little bit late. Played with GKer itslikeimsayin in our GK Cup match at 11am Saturday, 9/28/19, joined by mpisarski. I hadn’t played here since 2010, and did not remember some of the significant elevation changes within some of the individual holes. Repeated plays here are definitely a benefit to know the correct hitting lines and approach lines.

Greens were receptive and rolled very nicely at medium speed. Sand was a little damp but very playable. The only tee that was sloping was on number 14. In the fairway you were usually on good turf, but rough was wildly variable depending on where you were and how far off the fairway you ventured. Holes like 2, 4, 12 and 13 have difficult, long uphill approaches and are very challenging. Many of the other par fours are short and more amenable to surgical placement of drives and approaches.

We played blue tees. Simple GPS in the carts was difficult to understand and gave conflicting yardages - you’re better off with your own tools. I knew my day was going to be more difficult when my rangefinder died on hole #2. Paid $40, started on time, played in 4 1/2+ hours on a steady, slow day. Simple clubhouse has a casual, locals vibe. No range; you warm up into some nets, but balls were good and turf good. Recommended – I’d like to get back sooner than another nine years!

Played here today with dconnally and mpisarski with an 11:00 starting time. We started right on time. POP was a little slow, not too surprising for a Saturday. We finished in 4:45. Slight rain/mist early in the round but it didn't seem to impact the course too much, except one green that had some casual water collected on it.

Conditions are good, although beware: They aerate the greens starting Monday. Greens were mostly smooth, accepted full shots well, and ran medium-fast. Fairways are the high point, really nice in many places and just a little lower condition in others. Rough was a step down in consistency, but that's fine. Most of the bunkers I was in were good, some could use some more sand. Tee boxes were probably the low point; not often flat and not as well manicured as other parts of the course.

Fun times. Definitely recommended.

Greens very receptive with decent roll and running a touch over medium. They are in great shape. Bunkers mixed. Some hard, some not. Some with rocks, some with not. Tees are always the week spot on the course. They are generally small and get beat up pretty good, but still decent enough to hit from. Saw the cart girl twice. The course is in over all great shape and a easy recommend.

Played Mt. Woodson for the first time with other Guru’s and was lucky to be paired with fellow GK’ers Tim and Brady. Fun guys to play with and a big thank you to these two guys for helping me through the layout, advising me on where to hit it. Would have been hurting without em as course knowledge is really a must here. But the course is as nice as they come. Interesting, hilly and fun layout that meanders through the hills and although just over 5700 yards, it’s not easy. Target golf meaning you can keep the driver in the bag on quite a few holes. Fairways were in great condition. In fact one hole, #13 the fairway seemed near perfect all the way through the green. Lies were all great. The rough was a bit thick but that was expected. Tee boxes could use some work but nothing really bad. Was not in any bunkers but they looked like they were in good shape. The greens were really nice as well. Rolled very nice at about medium pace but held all shots. Cute little grill with good food and I guess that would be my only complaint. The grill is right next to the #10 tee box and I noticed many groups stop to load up with food when they make the turn. Understandable to get a bite to eat but I can see that really slowing down play. I had a lot of fun out there and am looking forward to the next time I am out there. I have already talked this place up with a couple of friends and giving it some nice props.

Second round of the day 6/27 was at Mt. Woodson Golf Club with more GK’ers!

This is one of my favorite golf courses yet only 5700 yards … however don’t take it for granted as it is a 133 slope. Fantastic scenery of the surrounding region perched up and carved into the mountain. Great layout that defines the way target golf should be. So many beautiful holes that dare you to hit driver but best to leave it in the bag (unless you’re nuts like me). Of course there is “The Bridge” e-ticket Disneyland ride from hole 2 to 3. Then you get to the tee box of hole 3 and it’s the Hunted House ride. Man that’s one intimating shot.

Such a fun track. Was glad to be playing with Alex326 to see his reactions to playing the golf course for the first time.

Conditions are great! Greens rolling smooth, medium speed and really holding shots. Fairways lush, yet not wet with excellent bermunda to hit off. Rough, deep bermunda for the most part. Super tough shots await you if you miss the green. However better to be in the rough than bushes or bunkers! Bunkers greenside had quality mostly soft sand. In the fairways quality mostly firm sand. You don't want to find any bunkers because they are all deep. Tee boxes are small and not much hitting ground so some divot damage to found but surprisingly not as much as you might expect considering many par 4's are short and best to hit a hybrid or long iron on off the tee.

Nice little bar and grill. Excellent on course service.

Played 6-27-19 with Alex, Jim, and John as part of a GK Guru plays on a very relaxed afternoon with no one in front of us and nobody behind. Tee boxes were just okay, some could use some leveling and par threes were a little chewed up. Fairways were in very good shape, lush with decent roll out and great lies. Rough was not that long and fairly easy to hit from. Was in a couple of bunkers that had good sand and one that was very thin. Greens were in good shape, soft and rolling a little on the slow side with some afternoon bumps. Overall course is in really nice shape and worth giving a try.

This was my first time playing Mt. Woodson and what a great course. Layout is fantastic with numerous elevation changes throughout the course to go along with some water hazards.

This was my first time playing Mt. Woodson and what a great course. Layout is fantastic with numerous elevation changes throughout the course to go along with some water hazards.

There are HUGE boulders that range in the size of a car to a small house that line the course which really defines this track as it's own identity. Being that we have much much smaller versions of rocks lining the backyard putting green the boulders around the course really hit the appeal button for me.

Greens were a very nice dark green color indicating they were super healthy. Greens were soft easily holding approach shots. In fact I might say they were even a bit too soft as there were a couple of tire track indentations from the mower on a couple of greens.

Fairways were a joy to hit from. I'd rate the fairways at a 7.5-8. I can't comment on the rough. I was either in the fairway or waaaaay off and into the bushes. Sand traps were average in that a couple were a bit thin and others had nice quality soft sand.

We set our own POP with the group in front being long gone and the group behind us never really pushing us.

A definite recommended course and I can see this track being a new staple in my San Diego rotation.

Always enjoy playing Mt Woodson and was even better today with great weather and GKers to play with. Course is in great shape with greens being a bit soft but still putted very well. Everything was how a course should be condition wise and the layout is always challenging and fun. A bit out of the way but well worth the effort.
