What a surprise. I played on Labor Day at 2:00 for $19.75, including a small bucket of balls. Sure, the course has some flaws, but overall it is a tremendous value. There is plenty of challenge if you're not careful. This is a diamond in the rough.

This is a fun course with a lot of bang for the buck if you are a resident. The greens are usually true. You miss a putt it's your fault. I have played alot of the pricy tracks and the greens have frankly sucked (Torrey). Granted they stick groups out too tight and it can get slow with worthless marshals, but for the buck it is a fun track with good tees, good bunkers and greens you can putt on.

I was just reading some of the comments on the course. Honestly my ball did hop a bit but with good, firm putting you should be able to get close and at least get your 2 put. I was. Noticeable breaks around 1 foot around each hole. Aside from that compare these greens to greens in LA county or Orange county were they don't fix their divots; where they don't manage their speed of play; where they just don't give a hoot about those folks playing around them and I am sure you would agree with me, that for the money the course is a good a deal if not completely worth every penny you paid. I mean it is after all a municipal course and does get a good deal of play. Firm puts to the edge of the hole would rope around the edges but that comes from constant play. If the greens were tour quality and with some more work they could definately be on their way but you would expect to pay fees like Torrey Pines instead of the under $35 for non-residents. Not a bad deal if you ask me. Give credit where credit is due. The course is challenging. The course is a good deal of fun to play. And coming from an Angeleno you guys must be spoiled in San Diego because let's face it gentelmen and women for the money you cannot deny it offers good value.

Great little muni! Personally shocked that this course was in as good as shape with the low rating and airation alert. Greens have grown in well, they run medium to fast and most importantly true. You can tell the residents take good care to FIX THEIR DIVOTS unlike courses I play in Long Beach and Orange County areas. Some burned out places in fairway but essentially a GREAT, GREAT deal considering the condition it is currently in and the quickness of play. Challenging little course with some blind shots. Since course is reasonably close to the ocean expect inland breeze to play a factor into several holes in back. Overall experience I was impressed although that beer card girl could have gone out a little sooner to get us much needed beverages. Lots of wildlife and expected to see huge warrens and gopher holes but noticeably lacking. Tee boxes were flat and very lush. For the money definately a good experience was had.

This course continues to be a great deal for residents of oceanside. However over the last 10 months, the course conditions have gone down hill. The greens are beyond slow and bumpy and the fairways have numerous large ground under repair areas that are bare of grass. I myself have found it frustrating to hit quality shots into the greens and then watch as putt after putt bounces offline. I continue to play here when I play with my 9 year old son, but unless the conditions improve soon I that will be the only reason to play.

I have played Oceanside GC the last three weekends and I have to say I think it has gotten a bad rap in some reviews. It has some of the best greens in San Diego, they roll true with good speed and are great to putt on. The rough can be a little tough to hit out of and it is not well maintained or particulalrly lush, but really, the rough is supposed to penalize bad shots so I don't think there is much to complain about there. If you keep the ball in the fairways you will be set, I haven't had a bad lie on these fairways and they are firm enough to give some good roll, and the sand in the bunkers is top notch. As for the layout, the front nine is easier than the back, it has a few dog-leg holes which aren't long but place a premium on putting your ball in the right spot. The back nine has an interesting mix of holes, on 12 make sure you aren't short with your approach and on 13 have a good look at the pin so you know where to aim, the view from the 13th tee is great. Holes 15 and 16 are long and par is a very good score on them. Don't take the par threes at this course for granted, they are very difficult holes with plenty of distance from the back tees. This is a great course to walk and if you live in Oceanside you can't beat the price. I have heard pace of play can be very slow but I haven't had any problems so far and I can think of a number of courses in North County which are slower. I hope this was helpful.

Front side was in far better shape than the back. Fairways were playing pretty thin on the back 9. Front 9 fairways were lush and open. Some tee boxes were pretty torn up, and probably should have been moved about a week ago. Not bad for the money though. Just keep it in play.
