This course is the best bang for the buck going. The greenskeeper here should win an award. The greens at Oceanside Muni are better than many places I have played for 2-3 times the money. Fun track with a lot of character. Only real problem is slow play. No marshall seems to have the spine to tell someone to pick it up. Of course I have yet to meet a marshal that would. $25 local resident rate to walk on the weekends is great. Nice practice areas too for warming up. Give it a try soon. aeration is already done and healed up.

OK, I understand that this is a muni and, as such, will be played by a lot of people for a fair price. That doesn't excuse the terrible service we experienced on 2-26-06. We ordered our tee time through an online service and then drove up only to find that TEN PEOPLE had been given the exact same tee time! Wow! The desk was swamped and it took nearly 1/2 an hour just to get our cart. There were no range balls, as the picker was down...of course they didn't have any of the helpers out there raking up balls, either. Sad display, Oceanside! Then we finally hit the course, after waiting for about a dozen fivesomes to tee it up. For most of the course, the fairways are just gone. It was safer to hit to the "rough" as that's the only grass around! Amazingly, the greens were in great condition and rolled true all day. Once the pack started to spread out, the course showed itself to be interesting and fun...or will be when it has grass on it. I must have hit seven or eight "center cut" fairways only to find my ball sitting on dirt or planted in mud. Most courses in the county overseeded back in December/January timeframe...why so late here? To make a long story shorter, we finished in about five hours and fifteen minutes. Frustrated at not being able to warm up properly, I don't think we enjoyed the round much. The staff didn't seem to care whether the paying public was pleased or not, to be honest. The cart lady was nice and came by a few times, so that at least is something positive. Get your act together, Oceanside! You have what might be a fun track with some attention to the conditions and to your paying public. Take a look at some of the other munis around and do what they do! I won't be back, not that I'll be missed. It's just sad to see a course neglected and a poorly managed operation make a fun sport seem like a pain in the butt.

I've played the course a number of times recently. It is certainly not in the best shape it could be. The main problem is the fairways, they are extremely thin at the moment and it is very difficult to control iron shots from such tight lies. Not good to hit the ball down the middle and have a bad lie. The greens are rolling pretty well and are the main reason to play here at the moment. They need to fix the fairways ASAP. Still good value, especially if you live in Oceanside.

Just an ok course. Fairways and rough were dead, but greens were in good condition. Some quirky holes here, 12 being one of them. Had a ball hit the green and roll back 50 yards down the fairway, the flag was up front and made it almost impossible to putt without the ball rolling down the fairway. On one hole we had to ask a greenskeeper where the heck to shoot. Place could use new range balls. The cart girl was fantastic, came around many times and was always pleasant. I might play there agsain if nothing else is available and I need to play sopme golf.

excellent course...for american golf which isn't saying much. solid municipal, open, and straight forward. paid for a cart, and they didn't have any. worth playing if you live in the area.

I played here on 12/18. After the overseeding of the tees, which are now in pretty decent shape, it seems the fairways have gone to pot. Lots and lots of brown grass and hardpan in the middle of the fairway. On several holes you're better off landing in the "rough" off the fairway, which is fairly short. It was very frustrating to land in the heart of the fairway and feel like you were hitting off concrete.

The greens were in ok shape as well excepting the ever present unrepaired ball marks.

This course continues to be one of the best values around. If you can overlook some bare spots and water hazards that need upkeep, the track is varied and challenging. When you can play on a Sunday morning for under $40 (with range balls), you've got something.

I play this course quite frequently. The fairways are usually mediocre at best and have many patchy spots. Today the course looked magnificent though. Yes there are some dead spots, but the fairways are plush for the most part and the greens are rolling very well. For the price you can't beat it if you can put up with the slow play and fivesomes. Kudos to the maintenance staff for bringing this course back to life.

I play this course every week with my son. I enjoy the layout. The greens have been bumpy and slow and the fairways need work (I have been told that they are working on this and other improvements). It is a course that allows you to you use every club in your bag. Overall I enjoy this course, but The #1 drawback to this course is the pace of play. The last 6 rounds I have played here took over 5 hours. I haven't seen the marshalls do a single thing but pick up trash for the entire time out on the course. The course shouldn't take this long to play, I played as the first group out the other day with my son and it only took 2hrs 55mins to pay.
