If you are not a "local," the $200 price tag is ridiculous. For that amount, you would expect a resort/country club experience from the parking lot on... here - nothing! However, if you can manage the fee, where else can you "walk in Tiger's shoes," face the same challenges, and enjoy the same views? By the way, the signature hole #3 is closed, so you can only play 17 holes. Would you expect a discount? Yes. Would you get it? No. Just a suggestion to play #8 twice. Now I hear the fees are going up again. Unless I move to SD, it is probably one and done for Torrey Pines.

The course is looking fantastic. They are currently overseeding a couple of black tee boxes so the tees were up on about 4 holes. No problem there since the change only shortened the length to around 6600-6700 yds. If you found the fairway, you found a smooth, short, fast carpet. The greens had a few blemishes but it was the end of the day Sunday so it's not their fault, just some inconsiderate duffers. We paid $69 for the twilight (although it was only 2:08) and got in all 18, so it was a very good value. With the fine service, good practive area, and great tap room, Tustin Ranch has the look and feel of a country club. If you can get around the full fare ($150), this is a great place to go.

Very nice layout, but play is very slow. It was backed up on almost every hole. 6 and 7 are as challenging as you'll find, especially when the wind comes up. Nice people - nice prices.

This course continues to be one of the best values around. If you can overlook some bare spots and water hazards that need upkeep, the track is varied and challenging. When you can play on a Sunday morning for under $40 (with range balls), you've got something.

What a surprise. I played on Labor Day at 2:00 for $19.75, including a small bucket of balls. Sure, the course has some flaws, but overall it is a tremendous value. There is plenty of challenge if you're not careful. This is a diamond in the rough.

The course is playing fantastic! And the guest service can't be matched in any other So Cal public course I have seen. Be honest - when was the last time you had a course marshal help you find your tee ball in the weeds, instead of warning you about holding up play? Just one thing is wrong, and it's not their fault. Ball marks on the greens. Golfers, come on! If you are good enough to hit the green from more than 30 yards, you MUST find and fix your mark!! And fix a couple more while your buddies are putting (for those players who forgot).

I played the back nine Saturday AM. The course is in very nice shape; the greens were a little slow but that's all right for San Juan Hills. Very smooth greens and fairways. 2 hours for 9 holes - a great way to start the day. For $20 (+ $7 for a cart), you can't beat it in the area. Plus the carts have GPS which moves things along quite nicely.

I played Saturday afternoon under the Super Twilight rate ($34). Went off at 2:15 and the course was almost empty, so I finished all 18 just after sundown. The rain stayed away all afternoon. Given all the water, the course was in fantastic condition. Just one (major) problem, and it isn't the course's fault. I just can't understand why a golfer who can hit the green with his shot is dumb or thoughtless enough to ignore the ball mark left behind. Come on people - it's time to get tough. I suggest that course marshals watch groups on the green, instead of just being "clock police." A person or group not repairing ball marks should be given 1 very clear warning, then escorted off if they can't comply. It seems like every place I play these days has the same problem, and it can ruin an otherwise great course.

Played last Thursday on a very windy afternoon. The course was in very nice condition, considering the changing conditions lately (wet, hot, windy, etc.) The greens were soft but true and quick - all in all a well maintained track, and a good value for the neighborhood.

We played Sunday, 11/14, after it rained the previous day (some). Parts of the fairways and rough looked like they had been drenched - standing water, very muddy. The greens still showed signs from aeration, although the effect on putts was slight. Our tee time was 11:50 and we didn't finish until after sundown - over 5 hours. I could understand that, since it was a weekend, but they should make their twilight rate start time realistic - more like 11:30. If you pay full price, you should not expect to race the sun and lose! In general, not a bad layout, but not worth $100.

The course is in pretty nice shape - green and even soft in places. Considering the lack of rain for many moons, I was very pleased with the conditions. I read that they are planning a new clubhouse/restaurant/expanded parking lot across the street. These should make a fine addition to a nice municipal track.
