Quirky is probably the best description of the layout here. While this is a traditional golf course, it is anything but straight forward with several severe doglegs and a substantial amount of water/lateral hazards to contend with.. This is not a course where you will hit driver 14 times. There are really no houses on the course so it is quite peaceful. There is a significant afternoon wind that usually blows through the river valley.

This was my first round here in several years. Being all too familiar with the poor condition of courses that are managed by American Golf, I was anxious to what the course looked like under new management. Unfortunately, the current conditions were reminiscent of American Golf.

To be fair, there were a few bright spots. The staff was outstanding, with an especially friendly marshal. The greens are better than average and faster than one would expect when you see the condition of the rest of the course. Fortunately, I was not in any bunkers, but no one else complained about them, though some looked shy on sand. We played in the late afternoon and the course was nearly empty so we were able to play at a nice pace. The price was extremely reasonable at $21 to walk.

The overall condition of the fairways (and other areas that should theoretically have grass) is pathetic. The fairways were so bad that someone would burn through several cases of white spray paint cans marking what should be considered ground under repair. Some of the areas in the fairway were hardpan that showed no evidence that grass had ever been growing there. The rough was sometimes complete hard pan and other times un-mown pockets 3-4 inches thick.

I won’t be back until I hear of improved fairway conditions, but it is a good bang-for-the-buck if you can live with the fairways and rough.

The course is worth $20 not $29 to walk. The greens and bunkers are good which makes the course playable. Areas around the driving range and first tee have been nicely re-landscaped. I hope the new management does something about the ugly fairways and rough.

I played with stickboy on sat 3/21 and I must say this place has done a 180 since the last time I played here when american golf was in charge. Everything was a little nicer including the fairways all the way to the greens. They have top notch driving range all grass. And all the divots were filled in with sand everywhere on the course from range to fairway I could not believe it. People were fixing there ball marks, its just something you don't see everyday. If it wasn't 50 miles away I would play there more often.

In many areas the rough showed effects of the rains last month - resulting in many bare areas and ground under repair (I consider dirt areas with tire tracks ground under repair). The front nine plays a few strokes easier than the back nine. The wind effects the back nine, especially in the afternoon and holes 15, 16 & 17 are difficult. This stretch can cause a good round to become average, or worse.

I played Tuesday and teed off at about 8:30. It was the first time I had made the drive down there since American Golf has been gone. I have always really liked the layout of the golf course, and that remains unchanged. As far as course conditions, I don't see a huge difference (keeping in mind that it is winter). From tee box to green, the conditions are pretty much standard muni. The greens, however, were fantastic. Very fast and true. The driving range is all grass and very nice. If I lived a little closer I would play here often. It is challenging, walkable and relatively inexpensive.... One other thing, since it is raining, this course didn't used to drain very well after a significant rain. There will be lots of standing water if you play after a storm.

Perfect for advanced and average golfers. You would think givin the short yardage it would be an easy course but it's anything but. When I bring people here they always like it. It's also one of the quietest courses you'll play anywhere. A morning round here is a real treat.

The Oceanside Golf Course is a public course with a great location and rates. Rates are lower for city residents, but we paid around $32 for a Saturday morning game. Located in Oceanside near Camp Pendleton, this course as great views of hills and animals such as ducks, rabbits, squirrels, and chipmunks. There are several water hazards and ravines that challenge good shot calling.

The course displays two faces depending on rain. When it's sunny, the course is mild with a great view of the wilderness on the back nine. The 12th hole is a shot up a hill, so stay pumped walking up. When you get to the 13th hole, you get a nice high par 3 straight downwards to the pin. Careful on the way down, if it's slippery you'll go down like a bob sled on the slick cart path with your cleats.

If you play the course after a rain, then the course becomes a challenge with portions of the course flooding making relatively simple shots very complicated. So be prepared to lose balls in newly formed lakes that you weren't used to if you only play in normal So. Cal weather.

Great price for a North County San Diego golf course. The Oceanside Golf Course has several dog legs make this a challenging course begging you to power a shot through trees if you have the guts. Great scenic locations once you get away from the front of the course. Speed of play not too shabby, no back-ups past 1-2 groups.
