RBI is one of my favorites. They have been working hard to improve the course and it shows.

The greens have come back nicely from maintenance and are very fast. But they are still a little bumpy. When they smooth out, they should be great!

But the bunkers need work. They have always been tough. Some are big and deep. And they are pretty much packed dirt with very little (if any) sand. I think that this should be their next major project. Adding a layer of quality white sand to the bunkers would make a big difference.

The staff is very friendly and attentive.

Played here am 4-7-13 for first time in 15 years. The course is in very good shape over all from tee to green. Fairways were in great shape with only a few thin spots visible. Greens fast and receptive to approach shots. Sand traps somewhat lacking of sand on several holes, but were consistent throughout the course. Will be back to give my friends a chance to win their money back.

Played RBI for my Turkey Day round. Couldn't resist the GN hot deal 10:56 time for $50, plus I used the JC golf promo code (SD20OFF good on hot deal times for JC Golf courses through the end of the year) to save an additional $10. So for $40, that's hard to beat at this usually high-priced course!

I got out there a little early and they sent me off with a twosome around 10:30, a single caught up and joined us later. Never ran into any groups in front of us and the foursome directly behind us never crowded, so it was a nice relaxed pace on a gorgeous day, just under 4.5 hours total. I knew from the latest GK reviews that they were working on an irrigation project on the course. Right now, it only really affects the 3rd hole. Normally a par-5, it's playing at 410 yards now with all four tees grouped together. Otherwise, the rest of the holes are playing normal as of now.

From tee to green, the front nine seemed a bit beat up overall. Seems like that's where most of the irrigation/construction work is focused right now. The fairways were mostly brown and thin, with some muddy patches, as well. The rough was kind of a mess. Very patchy with a lot of muddy areas, some super deep clumps of rough and some thin/dry areas all mixed together. The back nine was in a little nicer shape overall. The fairways and rough were a bit more lush and green, though there were still some patchy areas. For the most part, though, the back nine was in decent shape. The tee boxes were nice and level throughout. A few on the back were a bit shaggy, though, but not too bad. I wasn't in any greenside bunkers. I was in one fairway bunker and it was pretty thin and crunchy. From what I could see from my playing partners, the greenside bunkers looked about the same.

The greens were the highlight of the course condition-wise. Though still recovering a little bit from aeration (a few very minor bumps here and there), they are running well and starting to look real nice. For the most part they were running very smooth and at nice, quick speeds. Also very receptive on approaches.

I'm thankful (pun intended) I got a really good deal to finally play this course, so it was definitely worth what I paid. Even if it were in pristine condition, I wouldn't pay full rack rate for this course. The facilities and service elements are nice tied in with the Inn, so that jacks up the price. Otherwise, it's just an OK layout in my opinion. I did like the finishing 4 holes. There are still plenty of other places I'd rather play in the area that have much better standard rates.

They are installing an irrigation system, and hole 8 us totally torn up, turning a nice par 5 into a 125 yard par 3, where you tee off from a flat spot on the fairway. Several other holes which were recently worked on show severe signs of wear/repair, with bare spots, etc. Overall, the course is still in pretty good shape, and the greens are actually quite good, but it's not a lot of fun to have to work around the recently landscaped areas. I'd stay away till they're done this project, probably a few more months.

This course is undergoing drainage construction to the fairways. New sprinkler and drainage lines are being laid. This was an issue on the 3rd fairway this past weekend, and appears as though it may continue for a while. Also, heavy equipment is being stored on the driving range so this may impact early morning access. Best to call ahead.

Played Rancho Bernardo Inn yesterday.

I really like RBI! It has a lot of variety so that you need to use all of your clubs. Although the greens were soft and a little bumpy, putts were hard to make, but it played really well, overall. While there were a few wet areas, it just showed that in the current dry conditions, they are trying to keep the course in good shape.

We played in just over four hours. We all enjoyed it!

Played in a shotgun tournament on Thursday morning. Staff did a great job in getting everything ready for the tournament. Everything was in decent shape. Greens aren't the fastest but I'd just say aim at the hole and not worry about any breaks. Seems like we read too much into our putts. Fairways were good and the rough is ok. They were watering various spots around the course so there were areas that were wet. Also some of the bunkers seemed to be wet. But we didn't hit out of any so it may have been fine, just an observation. The course is not a long course but has options for you off the tee. Just note you need to take a cart over to the driving range because it is a little far away from the course it self. Cart girls came around quite a few times. Overall pretty good experience.

Course was in great shape! Super packed but played in 4 and 1/2 hours. Would have been faster but group in front of us slowed down last three holes. Not bad for a 10am start time!
