I squeezed in a super late twilight round over the weekend for $25 and managed to get through 16 holes in just over 3 hours. Overall, the conditions were decent and I always enjoy playing this layout. It's not a terribly difficult course so it makes for a fun round. Since it was an end of the day round, there was noticeable wear on the greens with numerous bumps and unrepaired ball marks. The fairways and rough were good with some inconsistent patches. The tee boxes were mostly level and good but the par 3 tee boxes had significant divot damage. The sand traps that I played out of were nice and had good coverage. There were no marshals or a cart girl but I guess I didn't expect any since it was such a late round. I like coming here but I wouldn't pay the rack rate.

Hi everyone!

First off, I like this course, straight up. I seem to play it well and it suits my eye for some reason. I shot my PB here last year and every time I play TOGC, I feel that I can shoot a good score. Here is my review for 7/11...

Tees: The tees were OK, there were a medium amount of divots but nice and level on every hole. The markers were also in fair positions. There were a ton of tees laying around on each tee box that was kind of annoying.

Fairways: The fairways were in great shape but not super green. More of a brownish-green but in good playing condition.

Bunkers: The bunkers were rather thin with what my playing partners called "wet sand". I have to admit, they did not have the best quality sand. The bunkers were raked and consistent just not great sand.

Greens: The greens were great and rolling at 10' of the stimp supposedly. They seemed faster to me. We had a couple of groups in front of us that left many, many ball marks and that is a major annoyance for me. I fixed a bunch of marks on every green.

Overall: I really like this course like I said earlier. For the twilight rate, you can't beat it. I really enjoyed my round today despite some ball marks, wet sand and broken tees. Go play!

Played this course on the morning of Sunday, June 24th. It was a 'fast' tee time and the pace of play was great. We didn't have to wait on any hole. The course is in great condition with possibly the exception of the sand traps which were very inconsistent. Most of them were the consistency of mud. However, the greens and fairways were in great shape. The greens were medium speed and a little soft but rolled true. Very few divots. The customer service was good and we got out right on time.

Played Friday 5/31, 6:50 am; just punched a week ago, offered $25 green fee, and a comeback offer for $39 M-Th before end of June. I didn't know they punched, and when they told me, I was a bit deflated, but then for $25, I felt a whole lot better... great policy. And when all was said and done, front 9: greens were sandy and holy, but rolled fairly well, but slow (8 on the stimp and true roll), back 9 seemed like they were punched a week earlier, rolled closer to a 10, and less sandy.. so along with the very nice layout, a nice round of golf was had. Long par 3s on this course. played as 2some in 3:15. would definitely play here again.

Greens are pretty much perfect and probably rolling about a 10-11. Get out there and play it!

Fairways are in terrible shape, thin and many bare spots. One of the locals said the greenkeeper wanted to overseed but JC Golf said NO so the course will not be in good shape till next spring. Actually the rough has some body and you will get a better lie there. Sand is OK. Greens are in excellent shape, smooth, medium fast and will "hold" most shots.

Hard to believe this course doesn't get reviewed too much on GK, but it's one I've been wanting to check out for awhile. Their prices always seem a bit more than I'd care to pay, so I was holding out for a deal like the one I got today. Booked a hot deal GN time for 12:16. It was $45, but I also saved an additional 20% with the SD20OFF promo code (good on JC Golf course hot deal times through end of year), so it was $36. Condition-wise, I'm not even sure it was worth that, so I am glad I got a decent deal. Had I paid their normal $74 rack rate now, I would have been sorely disappointed.

On the positive side, I liked the course layout, which I knew I would. Very scenic and serene setting with trees and brush lining all the holes. Not a ton of houses. Course is fun and good mix of holes. All par-3s are pretty long (170 is shortest from blue tees and it's all carry directly over water), but no par-4s over 400, so it balances out. Not super challenging, but a good test. Some tricky greens that are pretty well protected. Not many flat lies to be found out here.

Unfortunately, the course was in dreadful shape with the exception of the greens. The fairways and rough are completely dormant right now. Almost all brown with only a few patches of green here and there. Seemed like a lot of different grasses fighting each other, so every fairway lie seemed a little different. Running firm and fast with rough pretty much shaved down to nothing. That makes it hard here because a lot of the fairways slope strongly one way or the other and it's easy to roll into trouble with no grass to slow down or stop your ball. Around the greens, the rough was more lush and consistent, so it wasn't bad.

It seems they are trying a new type of sand in some of the bunkers. Most of the bunkers had an older crustier sand, but several on the back had this heavy coarse white sand that was really tough to hit from in the fairway bunker I had found. When I dug my feet in, I sunk down about a foot into this stuff. The ball sits down easily, as well, so hard to pick it clean for a fairway bunker shot. It looks pretty, but not sure it's the best choice.

The greens were in relatively nice shape. A few seemed a bit chewed up and all had some pock marks here and there from unrepaired and poorly repaired ball marks, but most were very nice, smooth and rolling at medium speeds. Receptive on approaches, as well.

It wasn't super busy when I arrived, so the starter let me go off early around 11:45. I played by myself for a few holes and then joined a threesome ahead of me on the 7th. We were stuck behind foursomes ahead, but the pace was still pretty good. Whole round a little under 4 hours on a beautiful day in San Marcos.

Though I would recommend avoiding this course right now unless you get a killer deal, I very much look forward to playing it again when its in better condition because I enjoyed the layout and setting. I tried playing here earlier this year as a walk-on, but they had a tourney going and I couldn't get out. That day, it looked super lush and green, so I know what it can look like when the timing is right. Definitely worth checking out when conditions improve.

Played on SAT, 8/11 @ mid-day. If you have a JC Golf card, this place is great deal; however if you are out of town, $76 for Southern CA Resident is steep for this course right now. Fairways are in fair shape. Looks like they just did some maintenance recently, some holes in fairway still visible. Greens were shaggy and running at maybe a 8.5. Tee boxes were in average condition and sand traps were is average condition. Pace of play was decent at 4:15 on a SAT. No cart girls; but marshall was giving out free water and there is plenty of water stations on this course. The heat is not helping conditions here. The layout is unique with some long par 3's. Customer service was perfect. I would return when the weather cools down.
