Yet another business trip from SoCal to Phoenix, so this time I took the southern route and played Borrego Springs Resort and Rams Hill on 12/4/17. The drive through north San Diego, although long, is a beautiful and interesting drive. Left home at 4:30 am, 58*F. 6:00 in the mountains at 21*F, 6:45 at the course and it was 60*F.

Played Borrego Springs first - go see my review on that one. Rating: 9.99+.

Next up – Rams Hill. My 2nd time to Rams Hill, so I didn’t have the same “where have they been hiding this gem” reaction. Had I not been to BSR immediately before, I would be raving about the Rams Hill condition. Now this course has the shaved fairways and greens, but still in excellent condition. But there are a few, very rare, spots where the grass isn’t growing as well. The rough here is in excellent shape as well. Tee boxes are great, no issues there. The greens are what all courses seem to be striving for these days, green, plush, and darned fast.

The layout of RH, along with the elevation changes, really make this course stand out from BSR. It is an amazing course. Fantastic practice facilities and staff.

I am one of those that searches the internet to get a deal on a green fee. Rams Hill may be the only course that I don't even flinch at paying rack rate. Any day - sign me up.

This 36 hole day will go into my memory as something really special. Two great courses, but two really different courses, both in great condition. While I still think my day playing Bandon Dunes & Pacific Dunes was more memorable, my day at Borrego Springs Resort and Rams Hill was similarly amazing minus the ocean views and a heck of a lot more affordable.

Played 11/24/17 $80 GN Hotdeal 11 am 4:45 POP. Very busy !! The course was in it's prime shape. I've never rated any course a 10 before, but this course was all that and two bags of chips. Everything was perfect. Fairway's were deep emerald green and manicured. I am absolutely spoiled now. I don't want to hit from any other fairway's Greens listed at 10.8 speed. I'd give that a touch above medium fast. Very controllable and even with the afternoon foot prints ran Smoooooth and receptive. Rough just thick enough that you wanted to stay out of it, but still very playable. Found a couple traps and all were consistent in great shape. Right now it is in ideal conditions. I was paired with a guy that works at the Classic Club and he mentioned the conditions were better then his course and most in the valley. GO PLAY !!!!

All I can say is "'WOW" let me repeat that "WOW". Played on Saturday the 18th to a 78 deg blue sky day. Even though I rate this as my number 2 in conditions , under the Classic Club in December.Its #1 in WOW factor to the visual layout of each hole.I have never just stood at a tee box to fully take in the awe that most of the holes provide.And the tee boxes were absolutely perfect. A lot of undulation to the greens that made for a tough time putting for me, very forgiving fairways and the best sand in bunkers that I can remember.I am doing everything I can to make the GK outing in January.

Played here on Veteran's Day, Friday Nov 10, 2017. I believe they just opened up a week ago and the conditions were perfect. All the reviews online I've read about this course lived up to my expectations. Pro V1 Practice balls at the range, extremely helpful and friendly staff. In only wish it was closer, but the trip was worth it. No GPS on the golf carts would be my only minor complaint along with no snack shop between the front and back nine. They are in the middle of constructing a snack shop on the 14th hole, which is a bit late in my opinion. Other than that, those who live here are lucky enough to have a beautiful course so close by. Can't wait to come back to play here again.

Played 36 holes yesterday using the UnderPar deal. They are getting ready to shut down until November and having experienced the heat yesterday I can understand why. The fairways were quite brown in most areas which provided an insane amount of rollout. We played from the tips and aside from hole 8, I didn't have long irons into any greens. My biggest drive of the day went 381 yards which makes me want to play in the desert more often!!! The greens, bunkers, and practice facility were immaculate. Greens were slow in the morning and got firm and fast in the afternoon. I will be back to play once they reopen!!!

I'd highly recommend getting out there pace is great, we got out at 7 came in at 10:15. Waited around and had lunch ( which was fantastic) went back out at noon and got two more rounds in. 54 holes!!! We used the underpar deal so replays were free.

Finally getting around to reviewing a course I played in April on a Friday afternoon with some friends from San Diego. I will avoid droning on about the condition of the course since it is impeccable and should be on everyone's bucket list. The conditions on my day of play were no exception.

Most people are reading these reviews to decide whether it is worth the drive and green fees. I will simply say that it is. It is one of the most enjoyable rounds I have ever played and I do not regret the 5 hours of driving I did that day. I was lucky and only paid a fraction of the regular price because my buddy works in the industry but my experience would have justified the full price.

Played today @ 9:50am as a 4some with 2 moms. Moms played free with accompanying playing partner paying $75. Even with busy teesheet and some waiting, we finished in a little over 4 hrs so pace was ... Continue »

Played today @ 9:50am as a 4some with 2 moms. Moms played free with accompanying playing partner paying $75. Even with busy teesheet and some waiting, we finished in a little over 4 hrs so pace was good.
2nd time playing here and although course did not appear as perfect as the first time, we thought maybe 95% of playing surfaces were great. On a couple of holes, the sloped areas near the greens had turned brownish but it still had grass coverage. They said the greens were at 10 today but we all thought maybe they were a bit slower than that.
Visually not as stunning as the first time but still an almost perfect playing experience.

Played in the GK Guru day. One of my Favorite and one of the best courses in SD County.
The course was in great shape. It's easy to get spoiled if you've played here a few times to just expect the grass to be that deep emerald green everywhere and all the time. It was.. mostly. There were a few dryer/ browner areas starting to show in the fairway's, but they still played fantastic. It's such a treat to hit off these fairway's compared to the typical I play in SD.
The greens were in very good to great shape. I thought they held shots well and rolled true. Not as fast as they have been in the past and not as fast as the practice green, but still at a really good pace.
Traps were the low point, But hey they're are hazards right. Many were a little crusty.
Great practice/ warm up area and a fantastic bar area to enjoy refreshments after the round.

Knowing that Rams Hill takes pride in their product is why I chose to invest in advertising with a company providing the yardage books for the course. Understanding honesty and integrity in your product and brand is what separates the weak companies from the strong.
That is why I take pride in being a GK reviewer and will continue to give my most honest opinion.
