Walked the Blacks this afternoon 4/9/2018 teeing off at 2:50pm just before our scheduled 3pm super twilight tee time. Paid $17.00 to walk. Joined by my buddy Pedro7170 and RGM2525. POP was 3 hrs 50 minutes waiting for most of the day behind a couple slower groups(twosome and threesome). Weather was 80 degrees at tee off cooling down some with about a 10mph breeze for most of the afternoon. Very friendly staff checking us in. Buena has a putting green but no driving range--just cages to warm up in. Buenaventura is a tree lined kikuyu grass course that has several doglegs that you must navigate, some wind in the afternoon and some sloped green complexes. It plays only 5800 yds or so from the back tees but the wind and doglegs usually make it play just a tad longer than that. For sure a course to work on your irons, bending your driver each way and work on your strategic part of your game. I thought the fairways were just a tad below where they usually are or should be at Buena. They had some portions of lush grass here and there but also contained some areas of thin turf and dryness. This is a summer grass course so I am sure in a couple months the turf will become more lush and perk up. Overall rating was a 6.5/10. The greens which we knew(thanks to GK) were punched 21 days ago. They were not perfect but they were not to bad. The honest truth would be to give them maybe a week and a half or so to set in and then be rolled. Rating today was a 6.5/10 The rough is very thick in spots around the greens and fairways. Fairly decent shape, some problem areas--but not to bad. Rated 7/10. Was in 2 greenside bunkers on #5 and #7. Both raked and fairly good shape--softer sand. Rated 7.5/10. The tees were VERY green and LUSH--they almost need a trim and haircut--very healthy shape. Some boxes here could use a level. Overall rating 7/10. I have seen the course in better overall shape. Still worth a round here and there--rating will probably be close to a 6.5/7 out of 10. Monday's are their all day twilight rate--I would recommend this course for the twilight or super twilight rate but probably not more than that right now.
