Played the Blacks (5826/68.3/117) in 4.5H, matched up with Brian & Francisco. The weather was clear, in the 70's and fairly calm. Because of storm damage, the entire course is CPO for the immediate future. The course was closed for a month and just recently reopened. Some areas are still subpar, but overall the course is quite playable. They are in the process of completely resodding the entire #3 fairway, so it is currently playing as a 150 yard par 3. Lake beside 3 tee and in front of 13 green over flowed and has been drained for the time being, currently a huge muddy sink hole. There are also some damaged areas along the outer edges of holes that they have no gotten to yet, but from tee to green on most holes the course was playing fairly close to normal. I was impressed that they had resodded numerous areas of the rough on many holes. While I knew about the storm damage and really appreciated the in depth info provided when I called to make my tee time, it was disappointing to be putting on furry, bumpy greens that had been punched less than 2 weeks ago. Healing nicely, but I would have played elsewhere had I known that beforehand. To their credit, Buena is running a special for the next month because of the storm damage. Twilight rates are AD, and you got a sleeve of Pro V's if you also got a cart today. The tees were in good shape with almost all the divot damage already properly maintained. The fairways that were not resodded were mostly decent. Semi lush with almost complete coverage everywhere. The kikuyu rough is mowed down, few lost ball areas which is great for POP. Lusher closer to the fairways/greens, thinner the farther you are from the fairway. Many of the sand traps have been refilled with nice, new sand. However, a few damaged ones were basically unmarked GUR. The greens putted medium slow and were bumpy from the recent aeration. They held approach shots very well. The customer service was excellent as usual from the tee time reservation to the courteous and efficient check-in. They matched me up and got me out 45 minutes before my scheduled start time. Drink cart out making numerous rounds. No GPS on the basic carts but the sprinklers are well marked. Nice snack stand with good burgers and their drinks are good AD. Fun, shorter course that is tougher than the scorecard initially indicates because of trees, tightness and the usual 1-2 club ocean breeze. Easy course to walk, shorter, few hills, no long walks between tee boxes. No range, they only have a couple of cages to warm up in. One of the few negatives I can say about Buena is that they are one of the few non American Golf courses that allow 5somes. We teed off @ 820a on Saturday morning directly behind a 5 some. That group seemingly never even though about letting a 3some in carts play through. When they were on 16 tee and we were on 15 fairway, I could see that the group in front of them had already finished, so they were at least 3 holes behind. Recommended again in 10-14 days once the greens are back to normal.

Hit BV on my way up to Santa Barbara on Friday, 11/18 for a 10:00-ish tee time. I was sent out with another single and got around in about 3.5 hours, not waiting or even catching up to anyone until the 16th fairway for a brief pause. A two-club wind for most of the round died down to minimal breeze on the last few holes. Tee boxes were nice, level and green. Fairways were on the firm and tight side, but not in a bad way and provided a lot of rollout. The areas that were genuinely tending towards hardpan were rare. I wouldn't describe them as lush or pristine, but the bit of incidental scruffiness aside, they were really in good playing shape. Similarly, the greens, while not always perfect to the eye, rolled well and at reasonably quick pace. Bunkers were good while favoring the firm side. I hadn't been on BV in a while, the guy I was paired with was good company, and I can't point to anything that would prevent one from having a perfectly enjoyable round — pretty much as I did.

Moved to Oxnard about 3 months ago. Some friends have me advice on which courses I should play when I came out here. Buena was one of them. This is a fairly short course, but it's a lot of fun.. tree lined fairways still tested your golf skills. Not only how well you hit your driver, but course management as well. I thought it was a tiny bit expensive but the course is in really good shape. The tee boxes were great, the faiways were lush and green, and the greens were great as well. A little on the slow side but they weee still rolling decent and lush. Will definetly play here again, but would not play here all the time because of how short it is. This is a great course to boost your confidence and have a great time. A lot of pretty holes.

Played Saturday afternoon with three friends. Had a tee time for 1:20 but got off a 10 minutes late due to some traffic getting to the course from San Fernando for one of the guys. I greatly appreciate the starter and pro shop working around the tee times and getting us out when everyone arrived.

POP was right about 4.5 hours with little to no waiting in front of us, and the group behind not pushing us, that all ended on the par 3 14th when the group in front of us was still waiting to hit on the tee when we pulled up.

Course was in great shape. As the previous review stated the fairways were like carpet. Nice and lush with perfect lies. The greens held well hit shots nicely and rolled true. I would say maybe with medium speed (I have seen slower, but have also seen faster). Rough was good next to the fairway not to long, but long enough to be penal. Sand was a little firm for my liking, but the one trap I was in was easy enough to blast out of. Tee boxes fairly level and firm and a place to tee from was never an issue.

I really like this course, it's a short layout that allows you to score well, but forces you to decide how to play each hole off the tee. If you aren't hitting the driver straight you can end up in trouble, but on most holes the driver isn't needed. Easy enough to walk with very few hills, and the tee boxes on most holes are close to the greens.

Overall, the course conditions and service can't be beat and I will be back.

Played here Sunday mid morning, 8/14. Perfect weather; low 70's with a nice breeze. The course is in great shape. Other than some of the tee boxes on the par 3's having quite a few divots, the course is fantastic from tee to green. The fairways are like a carpet. If you are in the fairway, you will have a great lie with a nice firm cushion to hit from . The rough is also in good shape, not too penal, about 1 - 2 inches. The sand in the bunkers I was in was very nice to hit from. The greens were medium speed and smooth. This is a great time to play this course, especially with the heat in the valleys. I really enjoy this course. It's fairly short. But I enjoy using different clubs off the tee. There are plenty of short par 4's, with many choices off the tee. I highly recommend Buenventura Golf course.

Played the Blacks (5826/68.3/117) in 4.5H, matched up with Tim, Joey & Emma. We teed off @ 345p on Friday afternoon and finished when it was almost too dark to play. I got a text special of $19 to ride after 2pm weekdays good for 1 month for registering with the course. The weather was clear, in the 70's and breezy. I have been playing this course several times a year going back well over a decade, and the overall course conditions may be the best I have experienced here. The tees were in very good shape with almost all the divot damage already properly maintained. The fairways were excellent. Lush with almost complete coverage everywhere which produced nice lies. The kikuyu rough is mowed down, few lost ball areas which is great for POP. However, it is just long enough to grab your club on both full shots or chips. Lusher closer to the fairways/greens, thinner the farther you are from the fairway. The traps have thick sand and were decently maintained. The greens putted medium speed, were usually firm and fairly smooth. They held approach shots very well. Only #18 green showed significant ball mark damage that they looked like they had filled in & repaired recently. Courteous and efficient check-in, the customer service was excellent as usual. Played 7-11-16 with GDR23 teeing off right about noon and finishing in a little under 5 hours. Found a good deal on Teeoff for$17.99 including cart. Tee boxes were in good shape mostly level and fairly lush. Fairways were very nice, never had a bad lie, mostly lush and great to hit from. Rough was in good shape maybe 2 inches and thick. Bunkers were in good shape descent amount of sand and well groomed. Greens were in good shape medium speed and holding shots real nice. Overall course is in real good shape. Pro shop is always very helpful and accommodating here.

After helping a friend move on Saturday did not know if the back I threw out would be good enough to play today but it held up--I had a prepaid time($17.49) I made earlier in the week before I threw it out at Olivas Links. I showed up to Olivas to find a VCJGA tourney with a packed tee sheet. Logan(great staff) at Olivas called over to Buena and was able to hook me up with RGM2525 who had a prepaid time at Buena. Ron and I played the Black tees on a beautiful semi-windy day with temps in the 70's. POP was packed at Buena for a 4 hr 45 min pace. Thanks so much to Olivas and Buena management for squeezing me in with my buddy--great customer service! The greens looked to be in great shape and were soft rolling medium speed with not too many ballmarks. I would say around a 9 on the stimp. I like quicker greens but these were in pretty good shape. Rated 7.5/10 Fairways were not as lush as my last round here but still way above average compared to other courses. Would say 75 lush/25 percent thinner. Overall in very good shape. Rated 7.5/10 Was in one greenside bunker on #18 that had very soft sand that was raked. Rated 8/10. Tees were semi-level, lush, green and in good shape. Rated 7/10. Tighter shorter layout that makes you think some--with some afternoon wind and some undulating greens. Recommended for sure.

Walked the blacks this morning 6/27/2016 at 6:15am in 3 hrs 5 min behind a twosome and a threesome that moved very well. Beautiful morning in the 60's with no breeze. Paid $20.59 on an EZlink promo special. Course was in really good shape. I usually don't play this early and could not believe the amount of workers on the course. You can tell that management is putting work into every detail of the course. They were mowing fairways and tees, blowing debris away from bunkers, raking bunkers and watering greens.

The greens were very soft and putting medium speed and holding irons like darts. To give you and example they had a extreme right blue pin just over the bunker on 17--my wedge cleared the bunker and stopped like a dart 5 feet from the hole--historically here that ball would have at least released to the fringe. I am rating the greens a 8/10. I fixed a couple ball extra ball marks. Great shape.

Once again the fairways amaze me here. What drought? The fairways were lush green with your ball sitting up for the most part. Very little divots or problem areas at all. The mower was out striping them green. Rated an 8/10

The tees were lush so much that sticking your high tee for even a driver was a chore. They have some tees where you might have to hunt for a level stance but usually you can always find one here. Rated a 7/10.

Rough was 2 inches or so and being mowed down by maintenance crews. Most of the rough is green and lush and could be a club grabber Rated 7/10

The bunkers have plentiful soft sand. You really need to concentrate on thumping the sand here. I was in both par 3 bunkers on the front side #5 and #7. Sand was raked and in nice condition. Rated 8/10

Layout is fun for a shorter course---one longer par 5, couple shorter par 4's and numerous holes where you need to work the ball both ways. This course is in great shape and if you can land a deal even better. Very friendly staff and a nice alternative every once in a while when the Valley's are hot. Recommended.
