The greens were challenging, no one in our group putted well, the break and speeds seemed inconsistent from green to green. The majority of the course is very lush. However, a few areas were so wet that it's casual water, and numerous other areas where the grass is dying from a lack of water. The rough is VERY inconsistent, some areas you can almost lose your ball even when you saw it roll there, other areas it's almost hardpan from a lack of water.

In the areas of the course the rough is thin, it's almost no penalty. In the areas of the course where it's thick/lush, it can turn even a chip into an adventure, and forget longer, full shots, it's not happening!

Overall, the course is not in as good a shape as it was in 6 weeks ago.

Played this morning with TopRank , Nickesquire1 and a buddy from the Blue Tees. Stay out of the rough here at Camarillo. It is super thick near some of the greens and lining several fairways. I chipped 2 or 3 balls just barely in front of me this morning. Some of the rough is Kikuya and nasty. We had a strong breeze on the back nine and some tough pins today. The fairways are decent to good shape at Camarillo. The greens were healthy and rolling between and 8 and 9 on the stimp. The sand was decent. They need to level many tees out here. Staff great as usual. Par 3's are tough here and you better keep your ball in the fairway here to score well.

Played late Friday morning, about 10:00 (we had a 10:18 tee time and were offered 10:00 when we arrived; good customer service: check). Wind was a factor today, blowing about 15 to 20 out of the west. It was my first time here and I was thinking run-down muni (check the driving range), but I was pleasantly suprised and impressed with the greens and fairways. It looked like it would be slow round when the ladies in front of us took about 7 shots to get on the first green, but they kept at it and by the seventh hole, they were passing the foursome ahead of them. Great pace of play, finishing in just under four hours. The fairways and greens were in great condition. Kikuyugrass everywhere, and where it hasn't seen a mower, stay away. Mostly good lies throughout, including the rough. Some patchy irrigation with wet and dry areas (in the rough mostly). Some fairways had stakes and ropes to keep cart traffic off the saturated ground. Overall, great course for the money, pleasant coastal-like weather, and nice views of the nearby hills to the south.

The greens are rolling nice and hold iron shots well. Tee boxes - fairways nicely mowed, sand traps freshly raked. The rough is REALLY hit & miss. There are some areas where the rough is incredibly lush and so thick it will grab your club and turn it over. Then there are other areas 30 yards away where the sprinklers are not hitting regularly that is brownish and very dry/brittle.

The maintanence staff has recently moved the OB stakes IN on several holes. If you have not played here in awhile, places you used to be able to play from are now OB.

* Right all the way down hole 4, OB stakes have been moved in 15-20 yards.
* Up near the condo's right of hole 10, OB stakes have been moved in at least 10 yards.
* Along the right side on holes 14 + 15, OB stakes have been moved in 10 yards.
* Going over the green on holes 10 + 14 even a few steps could lead to a ball OB, really tight behind each of those par 5's.

Thanks to Dan for the invite... we played at 1pm with a very stiff wind on the front nine..Camarillo's fairways are looking in good shape right now...the thing that stood out to me today was how thick the rough has grown up around the fairways...you can still get a club on it but with some lies its a flier and others it can turn your club...its nice and lush and a nice add to make the course play tougher. The greens were rolling decent and the poa takes over more in the afternoon I am assuming here. The greens hold iron shots great at this course. I was in one sand bunker today and it was in good shape. Most of the tees need leveling but overall Camarillo is worth your money. They are also growing some trees lining several of the fairways. In 5-10 years when those trees grow this course will have even more teeth.

Greens, tees, fairways + rough are all above average to well above for a public course. The rough here is deceptive, it's mowed regularly and looks inviting. However, it's thick and will grab your club real quickly. The traps are good when you can play them dry. Unfortunately for me, I usually play daybreak golf here when the sprinklers were just on. Nice improvements in the past few years by G.C. Super Dan and his staff on adding new black tees boxes and improving the quality of the traps. From the tips, this is a realluy challenging layout, especially with the traditional afternoon winds blowing 10-20 mph.

2nd one off back nine this AM. Had a nice conversation with the golf course superintendent Dan, who gave me a detailed rundown of past and current course improvements. On that note, Kudos to the staff -ownership for improvements made over the past few years, the new tee boxes add variety, and the turf is quite improved over a few years ago. The greens putted nicely, traps are generally well maintained. Fairways – rough are looking better and better. The tee boxes are lush.

Played this morning 5/17 with JohnnyGK and Robstretch from the blue tees. I wanted to commend Camarillo from the last time I was out here. They have made improvements on the 1st, 17th and 18th fairways. Each fairway has improved since the last time I was out here. The course played long and there were several wet spots out on the fairways but overall this place is improving. The rough was up to 3-4 inches in some spots lining the fairways which added to the challenge if you were off line. Several tees were unlevel and you have to hunt for some level spots to tee your ball up. The bunkers are in decent to good shape. The greens are bumpy here and have a lot of poa to them, You need to hit short putts firm here to make them and have to know that going in. The greesn are holding iron shots like darts. The layout of the first six holes puts you in survival mode and is one of the main reasons I love to play this course. Pace of play this morning was 4 hours 20 minutes behind a men's club. Staff friendly....I will be back.

Played the back 11 holes walking in 2 hours 15 minutes, 1st person out this A.M. Greens look nice and generally putt nice. Fairway-tees looking better and better, well maintained. The only negative (especially early when they are wet) is the traps. They are more dirt than sand, tend to clump up and are difficult to judge how much is actually there before you may hit the hardpan underneath.
