3rd time I have played this course in the last month or so. Pro-shop starter(Danny) is way cool. Most all the greens have a minor top-dressing on them and are putting slow but for poa greens are putting decently. Iron shots are holding like darts especially with the shorter clubs. First 6 holes from the blue or black tees are probably the toughest first 6 holes of golf in Ventura County. I love Camarillo's layout and always feel challenged here with the amount of OB, lateral hazards, lakes an sand traps. All the par 3's are long from the blue or black tees and will test your iron game. The fairways are not the best but are decent other than #1, #7 and #18. Was not in any traps but they looked decent with firmer sand. Played with a very nice Camarillo local and we got a nice surprise on the 5th green( a huge rattlesnake). The grounds crew here is adding OB stakes more towards the fairways on many holes and letting the grass grow high in these areas. Look out for snakes especially on the right side of #5. I love a course that has several hard holes and some holes to bounce back on which Camarillo has. I just wish the conditions were a little bit nicer and they would get even more of my business.

Played the "back 11" on their $14 daybreak special. The greens were recently sanded, so not as nice as in recent previous rounds, but still very puttable. I teed off by myself around 6:30A. Walked & played 2 balls from tee to green on all 11 holes and finished (at) 8:35A! A single with a cart played through and there was an older couple about a hole behind, otherwise, had the back nine to myself. Nice to play 11 holes x 2 in 2 hours & 5 minutes! Reminds me of playing during the week as a jr. golfer back in the 70's. It probably was NOT a coinsidence that I got into a good groove and played relatively well.

2nd group off (at) 6:33A, played in 4 hours walking. Greens - tees were very well maintained, lush. Sand traps were freshly raked and nice. A couple of fairways (1+7) are so-so, but most of the others... Continue »

A couple of fairways (1+7) are so-so, but most of the others are decent to above average. Sections of the rough are very thich and even though not overly long, the ball will nestle down where it's a short iron only option out and you almost have to step on your ball to find it.

Had not played this course in two years...Heard some good reviews of conditions so I ventured out here...Played in the early morning before the wind kicked up. I thought for Camarillo Springs the conditions were good...but not great. Hole #1, #7 and #18 fairways were muddy and being punched....you can tell that the maintenance crews were out there working on these 3 holes which as a golfer you like to see them improving the course. The other 15 fairways were in very good shape for Camarillo. Lush and decnt to good lies in the fairways. Certain parts of the rough bordering the fairways are not too thick but just thick enough to have your ball sit in a hole type lie. The greens were lush and had a very green color to them. They were rolling about an 8 or 9. They are poa greens which are not my favorite but they rolled semi-decently. You need to hit the ball firm to make em. You know this going in so its no big deal. The sand traps were hard packed and in decent shape. My only gripe about the course would be that some tees are unlevel. But overall from a condition standpoint this place is really come around. The pace of play was 4 hours 30 minutes as it was a beautiful morning for golf. The pro-shop staff was very nice. The rate of $30.00 to walk in the morning is a decrease from their rates years ago. I believe they have new management and are not run by American Golf anymore(thank goodness). The layout of the first 6 holes are strong and challenging and there are some holes to score on as the course winds it way through the back nine.....I shall return.

This was my first time out here in over 2 years because the course conditions were previously among the worst in Ventuta county. American Golf ran this place into the ground with a lack of maintanence-upkeep. The currently offer a $14 play the back 11 holes daybreak special that was quite enjoyable. The course conditions are much improved over my last visit in 2007, the greens rolled nice. The tees were decent to good, the fairways were suprisingly good. The rough is thick and punitive, better watch your ball or you'll need to step on it to find it in many areas! Other than seeing your breath in the 40 something degree air when we started, you can't beat playing without the usual afternoon winds.

I played Camarillo mid-March and it is in wonderful condition. My group plays a Tournament at Camarillo every year and they always treat us well. Free range balls, organized staff and they get us out on time. I play the course 4-5 times a year (well worth the drive from the Valley) and it is lush and screaming "play me!"

Played on 3-13-10 and was pleasantly surprised. I had expected the course to be a swamp after all the rain, but it was just the opposite. Plush, green fairways,tee boxes and rough. Sand was very playable. Greens had been punched 2 weeks prior and rolled a little slow. Even with a little sand on them they still held a true line. Course should be prime in another 2-3 weeks.

hmmm.. conditions of the course is better than they actually look. Even though greens were aerated couple of days ago, they roll decent. Havent played this course in about 8 years, and just realized that the course layout is pretty decent. Lots of lakes and lots of o.b. on the course.
