Played on Christmas morning. Course was empty, starter told my twosome to just tee-off when we were ready.

Went in with rock bottom expectations due to the previous reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. The recent rains have really helped this course.

Greens were in really good condition. They were true and rolled smooth and medium-fast. Only noticed excessive ball marks on one hole. Fairways were in OK shape. The previous reviews mentioned some really damaged areas. I noticed a couple, but it seemed like course management was aware of the problem as these areas were roped off. On a couple holes, there were wooden stakes lining the cart path so that you couldn't even drive anywhere near the most damaged areas. Rough was in good shape, not too thick but definitely there. Sand traps were in poor shape. They were draining very poorly after the recent rains. Tee boxes were in good shape, all level with a moderate amount of divots.

We breezed through the front nine and slowed a little on the back, but still played in about 3.5 hours. However, it was Christmas day so this should really be considered the exception rather than the rule. My experience on weekends has been 4.5 to 5 hours with the back nine playing a few minutes longer.

Still a fun layout. I feel like this course is deceptively challenging in that no one hole is exceptionally difficult, but the distances and hazards make you think a lot about club selection and strategy a shot or two in advance. Also, there are always deals to be had, either through golfnow or the course itself. Fun layout, decent conditions and good value means that I'll be back.

Played Veteran's Day & course is like the previous review said-not in very good shape. Many holes were cart path only because they had reseeded-and a very bad reseeding job at that. Clumps of grass here, bare spots there, divots there, and mounds of pellets/dirt in the middle of the fairways. It will take time, but the course looks as bad as it does coming down the freeway. On #14 I hit my tee shot right and had to hit my 2nd off a giant area of hard-pan & bare dirt-overall hard to find a good lie to reward your good tee shot. Didn't find any traps. Greens were lush but still had obvious signs of punch marks so no true rolls AT ALL.
Didn't see any staff besides the starter & one maintenance man, which could've been a good thing for a less bothersome round or a bad thing for a terrible course.
To make matters worse the wind was blowing pretty hard, so I had to watch my back when I had to hit under a palm tree on #2 that almost hit me with a falling frond. TRIM YOUR TREES!
Only reason I like this place anymore is because the layout is more diverse & challenging than anything besides Rustic in North LA/Ventura County in my opinion.

Played on 11/2 for super twilight. I had 90 minutes until sunset, and was hoping to get 9 holes, but ended up playing 12 holes walking(couldn't see much on the par 3 12 though). Haven't played here in almost 2 years. I like the layout. Played from the tips, which made it long, but not too much. Looked like they just over seeded, so fairway was shaggy and muddy on most holes. Greens were smooth, but on the slower side. Rough was short but lush. The tees were mostly muddy, and had divot on most. Some holes were hard to find a spot with a decent lie.

But for $13, I can't complain too much. I needed to get some playing in (first time on the course since late September), and I got enough golf that I am comfortable on my play. I will come back when they greens are back from aeration, and the fairway back into shape.

Had a 12:50 tee time at Camarillo Springs GC yesterday. I have to say that this is probably the least kept up course in ventura county, and I've played most courses on a fairly regular basis. The fairways are kikuyu, 50% brown and 50% green. The greens were in great shape, however, and rolling fine. They were also undergoing a HUGE maintenance project on the course, with construction vehicles of all sorts UNDERNEATH your tee shot on 1 (I had to clear a cement truck. Not really difficult, but if you skulled one, you could break windows on vehicles, which made me pull my shot left into the trees) and off to the right on 18. It was a very hot day, so I was anxious to refill my water bottle at the cooler before hole 2 but, alas...it was EMPTY AT 1pm, as was the only other cooler on the course (can't remember which hole). At the beginning of my round, there were no carts parked out in the usual "ready area" by the putting green, so the pro shop guy told me to take the one park in front of the shop, which I had to empty of about 4 empty drink containers and a cigarette pack. I didn't pay full price (I actually never would on this course) but rather played for $25 with a cart through Golfnow.com, so I wasn't TOO disappointed. It's sad the shape this course is always in, though. It's a fun layout and fairly long and challenging. A lot of untapped potential in this course.

Never has there been such a contrast in conditions of the greens and the rest of the course since the old Victoria course in Carson. The greens were firm but nice. Around the greens was nice as well. The fairways were hit or miss. There were lots of bad spots in fairways. The rough was horrible. The new black tees are a bit goofy on about 6 holes. They should just get rid of them and make it a 6700 yard course. Black tees are also unkept. I played the blues my second round.

Played Saturday 4/14. Windy all day. Pro shop guy nice enough. Paired up with threesome, 4.5 hour round, but seemed longer. Slow group of five in front of us, waited on most shots.

Course is in above average / good shape. Greens nice, tee boxes a bit chewed up. Fairways are okay, some dead areas. Rough could use a mow. Some really beautiful canyon views.

No beverage cart or marshals. Back nine water comes into play.

$43 w/cart (golfnow.com) seemed a fair price. A step up from the local municipals (Woodley Lakes / Penmar) that I usually play, but not as nice as Goose Creek or Oak Quarry.

Would play again for a cheaper rate.

As I drove home yesterday from the Central Coast, I decided I wasn't quite "done" with golf and wanted to squeeze in a few more holes. I knew Camarillo Springs was convenient right off the freeway, so I took a chance. It was about 2:30 when I got there, so wasn't sure if I'd finish. Luckily, it wasn't too crowded out there and I was able to get in all 18 just before it was too dark. It was only $30 with a cart, so a great deal considering I was able to finish in time.

The good news is this course was more interesting than I had anticipated. I didn't really know much about beyond what you can see from the Freeway, so I didn't have great expectations. The best part of this course is holes 2-6, which go back into a cool canyon area. Holes 8-10 also have a nice little setting off from the rest of the course/clubhouse area. The rest of the course was pretty blah. A lot of water comes into play on the back nine, but the holes are pretty forgiving and mostly wide open. Overall, the course is pretty forgiving, except for the par-3's which all play pretty long. From the blues, I think the shortest one was about 180 yards. I usually like to have at least one shorter hole in the mix where you can fire at the pin.

The bad news is the course is in rough shape right now. The fairways were inconsistent. Some were completely dried out, some were clumpy and patchy and a few were in decent shape. Rough was the same way, some places it is shaved down and other places it was grown out and patchy. So you never knew quite what to expect until you got to your ball. The greens were in really good shape and sand traps were pretty well maintained.

For the price and convenience, this course was a pleasant surprise. It would be a great deal if it were in really great shape. Don't know if I'll be racing to play here again, but OK for what it is.

Played 10/12/11 and found course to be in good condition. Some fairways were aerated recently but overall, not bad. Greens were holding good shots and putts rolled true and quick, probably around 9 or 10. Some bunkers needed more sand but ok overall. Decent test of skills due to wind. Would like to play again soon.

Played 18 on Saturday 7/30. Great pace of play, course hasn't fully recovered from the winter. The greens were not as smooth they used to be. Lots of bumps and very soft. Need a good rolling to smooth out all the foot marks and ball marks. Tee boxes were uneven so its hard to find a good lie on the tee. Some patches around the course and as usual with the Springs, running smelly water at the drainage areas. If they get the greens back to their normal condition, things would be as usual with Camarillo Springs.
