great course, one of the best and most underrated in California; greens sometimes are slow but are always smooth, but that is the only complaint, as it is in otherwise perfect condition and the course is awesome and is extremely tough but fair, even when it is windy

Have to agree with a few other recent posts the course was adequate, mostly due to the fairway conditions, bare spots and when not bare constantly determining if the ball was in casual water. Greens on the other hand were perfect very fast and true and the tee boxes matched up as well. The weather was also perfect no wind 84 degrees played in late October. I would play the couse again it is a challenge.

Although the layout is challenging, using all your clubs, yada-yada-yada, the conditions were far from great ... more like adequate. I love the course and will play here again, but it could use a bit more attention to get me to share in some of the accolades I've read (and previously written). Maybe I'll wait until later in the Fall when I'm up this way again and give it another chance.

One of my favorite places in golf. Played last Sunday and was first group off. This course tests every aspect of your game. The scenery is spectacular. The weather is perfect. You cannot be off in aspect of your game and expect to score well. Putting green was flawless, but greens on the course were not as immaculate, but still in great shape, overall. Thought there could have been some better "housekeeping" on the course, considering it's almost $100 green fee and a million miles from anywhere. Didn't really understand how there were broken tees on the tee boxes when we were the first group out. You'd think the maintenence crew would "clean" up the tee boxes a little better when they mow them in the morning. Also, there was a lot of natural debris in fairways. You would just think that if you were the first group out, the course would show no signs of previous golfers. I still love this place. It makes no sense that this course is still not in the "top 100".

Wow!! What a great course. Worth the drive. Stay and play packages available. Played with 2 of my sons and everything was perfect. We felt like we were the only ones out there! You will use every club in your bag. Lots of wildlife. Teed off at 11am and wind picked up in the afternoon but that was part of the challenge. Will play there again!!

Golfers playing Santa Barbara courses must be very easy graders. Based upon the rating (nearly 9!!) and the reviews I was expecting an immaculate, challenging course. Challeging and tough it was, but the condition was very mediocre. Fairways had mixtures of many different types of grass and many, many divot marks. Rough was non-existent, grass was about the same length as the fairway, except for the many bare spots. Tee boxes were lumpy with lots of divot marks, even on the par 4 and 5 holes. Cart paths are mostly dirt trails. Condition of front nine is passable, back nine is awful.

The course layout is very tough - many holes not only have blind tee shots, if you haven't played before you have no idea where to aim. Not much room around the greens, no bail areas just unplayable hazard area.

If this course was in the LA area, it would be in the middle of the pack. How it can have an 8+ rating is unbelieveable. I wonder if the other Central coast courses also suffer from this rating inflation?

Just a real treat to play, too bad the gas prices are going to cut back my play here, but, it is so much fun...

One fo the best golf courses in California and in my top 20 in the USA. Nothing bad to say - this is an AWESOME course and hard. Played from the tips and only missed 1 fairway and still shot an 84. The greens are fast and tough to read, lots of fine breaks. Great condition and perfectly kept. Play this course but choose the right tee's or you are in for a long day. A Must Play...
