Windy, challenging and long track, but not in as good of condition as I remember from my first visit here 2 summers ago. Both the tee and green conditions were not as good as I remembered.

As for layout, many fine holes, but a couple are downright funky. Example, #17, a par 3 where tress overhand over almost the entire projected shot area. If playing from the tips and the wind is in your face, you can't go over them with a mid/long iron, and trying to thread about a 12-15 yard wide gap from 150 yards away, otherwise your ball falls into a staked area? Course knowledge is definitely beneficial, tough course to walk with the length and the wind.

Played LP on Saturday 8/1 twilight from the tips. We had a constant 15-20 wind swirling for most of the day. The course played very challenging today. The greens were in good shape and were slower than I remember since the last time I played here and holding shots fairly well. The fairways were in OK shape and in some places were dry. The rough around the greens had some lushness under the first layer and for me they were challenging to chip the ball out of. Most of the tee boxes are level except for a few holes. The sand was decent as was the pace of play. What this course has in is peace and quiet and a very challenging layout. I love coming here and challenging myself. I have now played #17 3 times and it is one of the tougher par 3's I have ever played. The staff treated all of the guys in our group's very nice. The practice area is great. This is a tough course to walk and a workout. The greens are small and the fairways are sloped on a good number of holes to make some of your stances difficult. I will be back for sure.

Played here midweek. Course was almost empty! We walked- not recommended unless you are in good shape for steep up and down hills. It's an interesting course. Was really disappointed in the condition of the fairways because we'd heard so much good stuff about the course. They were awful. Dry, brown, bare in many areas. The layout is challenging. Almost every hole is a dogleg- usually left! Some pretty steep holes where your second shot is going to be from the side of a hill even in the fairway! Beautiful scenery and plenty of wildlife.

Played in the afternoon on a tues. and found the course nearly empty. We walked it in 4 hrs. Was surprised at the dead spots in all the fairways but the greens were great.

Almost every hole is a dogleg left, it got to the point I was expecting the par 3's to dogleg. If you can draw your tee shot its great, if you hit a fade it makes it tough. Saw deer running around but they didn't hang around. Its a beautiful course with some elevation changes and a couple of unique holes. I would play here again without a doubt.

Played La Purisma this afternoon 4/4 from the tips(black's) with Toprank. What an awesome golf course this is. With a 75.6 rating and a 143 slope you are in for a fair and challenging test of some great golf. This golf course has it all...some holes that are target golf, plenty of holes to let the driver rip, some great scoring opportunities and some holes that can eat you up. The conditions at LP are great right now. They are having a US open qualifier here on May 6th and the course cannot be in better condition. The fairways have lush grass on them and hardly any spots where they are not filled in. The rough is up and in good shape around the fairways and greens. The greens are true and not to quick and are holding shots well. These greens putt very pure. I am sure they will have them quicker for the qualifying round later next month. The tee boxes are lush and some are un-level but for the most part they are not that bad. The sand is soft and high quality. The pace of play was excellent today..we walked the tips in 4 hours 5 minutes. The staff inside the pro-shop were really friendly. The practice area has two seperate putting/chipping greens with a grass range and short/game bunker area. . Both par 5's on the front are played as 3 shot holes and the par 5's on the back can only be reached in two with two bombs. The par 3 17th hole and the par 3 9th hole are as challenging as they come. The twilight rates at LP are a steal and worth the extra drive time. I would recommend this course to any and all golfers.

Played "La Piranah" on 27 March. The course IS in immaculate condition, with greens as absolutely perfect as you will find anywhere. As difficult as this course is, we were behind a beginner foursome that really harshed our mellow. Cutbacks have forced LP to reduce marshalls and, in this case, it proved painful. Additionally, as in the past, no on course refreshment service. Still it is a "do not miss" course.

Went up and played LP 3/13. Took advantage of their email special and payed $25 with a free cart (made the free throw on the March Madness Special). Hard to find a better use of $25...Had an all time ... Continue »

Went up and played LP 3/13. Took advantage of their email special and payed $25 with a free cart (made the free throw on the March Madness Special). Hard to find a better use of $25...Had an all time worst round, but the course was in dynamite shape. Greens were smooth and quick and barely an unrepaired ball mark to be found anywhere. Excellent overall course conditions (first hand experience with the many traps indicated they were in great condition). Excellent customer service. Just wish this track was a little closer to home, I would love to be able to call this my home course.

FANTASTIC golf course. It's always been one of my favorites. I play at SB city college so I am lucky to play here quite a bit.

FANTASTIC golf course. It's always been one of my favorites. I play at SB city college so I am lucky to play here quite a bit.

Played two weeks ago and the greens were slower than usuall, but still smooth as a pool table. There is no weak aspects to this golf course. As a scratch golfer, I have my hands full from the tips. It's a quality and beautiful test of golf.

Teed off mid-morning Jan 18. My first round here in a long, long time, and the course and ambience did not disappoint. It was an unusual day here in that it was fairly windless (the wind usually howls here), and because the location is a little remote, the facility gives off a resort/vacation feel - basically, the opposite of a Rancho Park of Griffith Park experience. The course itself was in very, very shape. Tee boxes, bunkers and greens all were superior. The fairways were fine too - the only thing to watch out for is some inconsistency in the quality of lies. Some are tight, some are very lush. The property has a lot of trees, and because of this, some areas of the course stay extra moist due to the shade. It's not a complaint; just an observation, and if you're a focused golfer, you know how to adjust to the conditions. This is one of the toughest layouts in the state, and also one of the prettiest. This is a superior course, but windy and remote.
