Played 6/28 before 7, great course in great condition. Finished in under 4 hours. Paid the $10 for replay, which is an outstanding value. Starter told us the pace slows in the afternoon, and finished in just under 5. Played again on 6/30 in 3 1/2 hours, walking. Great course, great conditions. Severe penalty if you hit it in the rough. Sand was excellent. Only complaint was early morning watering made the course soggy in some areas. Will play again with an early morning tee time.

Played Olivas Links 1st group out twilight with Bigswede and two of his buddies from the black tees. Olivas just had there City Championship and you could tell. This is the best I have ever seen the fairways at Olivas. #1 which used to be their worst fairway is now one of their best fairways. They were lush and green for the most part and very few hardpan lies out there. The sand is always in great shape and the tee boxes are always level. I felt the tees were cut down too low and were in great shape but were to thin for my taste as I like to hit par 3's from more lush grass. The greens were in healthy shape and were holding iron shots nicely. No more pool table quick greens at Olivas. They are slow for this course's standards but are in good shape. I could not believe two of my drives today that were no more than a foot off of the fairway and were in US Open rough past my knees and just dead. The rough is so grown and healthy in spots just off the fairway that you might have to step on it to find it. The staff inside the shop were very professional and friendly. For $28 walking at twilight during the week this is one of the best deals around.....looking forward to many more fun rounds out here this summer.

Played on 6/25/10, early am tee time. Beautiful weather conditions, so I was surprised that there were not a lot of golfers on the course. My group was able to tee off 20 minutes before our scheduled time. The course is in excellent shape, as they are preparing for their city championship tournament. Keep your drives in the fairway or you will pay the price if you end up in the tall nasty scrub. Greens are challenging depending on the pin placement, as they are multi-tiered and some are well protected by bunkers. Even on relatively calm days, you will have to deal with the wind. It is a great course to walk, and a fair challenge for all golfers with a variety of hole designs that make this a fun course.

Played Sat June 5th twilight after 1PM. $31 to walk this course is in my opinion one of the best values in the area. Course is great to walk, relatively flat with that cool ocean breeze. Course conditions right now are best I’ve seen here, greens are putting true and fairways are lush and soft, as sometime the fairways at OL are hard and difficult to hit off. Practice facilities are great with 2 greens and a unique pitching area. I think the previous reviewer did not see the chipping green that behind the pitching area.

They have a great practice area, and the chipping green allows you to practice shots to many different types of hole locations. Course is one of the best in the area with lush fairways and rough. Greens are smooth but can be firm. Customer service is great, and they have some great sandwiches for lunch. I prefer the Black Forrest Ham!

ok the staff is awesome and the course is , ok...but the practice facility is ... useless! for a pitching area they have ... buckets.(sad!) to hit into, no seperate green. oh, there`s a chipping green but it`s so big there`s no area to chip from! lol! if you want to practice anything more outside 25 yards you`re screwed.
the range? don`t waste your time or expensive equipment hitting off their thin excuse for a grass, which basically barely covers the thick, soft grainy/rocky undersoil. you will get used to hitting out of fairway bunkers under these conditions(and destoing your clubs). good luck getting golf balls anyway as the machine works about 60% of the time.
i sincerely believe my game has gotten worse playing and practicing here, as they make quality practice time extremely difficult and hard to come by.

The tees boxes and fairways are in exceptional condition. The greens have gone downhill and are merely average to above average compared to a few years ago, when they were as good as any public course around. Poa annua spots are everywhere and slowly taking over the bent. Sand traps are well amintained with nice sand. Carl and the rest of the pro shop staff are excellent.

Played this morning with a free round from the Eagle rewards card system. This place was downright windy and cold this morning(geez). Played with the last group of the Senior Men's club and had a great time with them. This course should be commended...its is in very good shape right now...fairways green and very few hardpan lies with mostly lush grass...greens firming up and rolling great...around a 9 or 10..bunkers have great sand and level and lush tee boxes....stay out of the rough bordering some holes...it is almost for sure a lost ball or a punch out at best.....great job Olivas keep up the good work
