Nice layout, a shot makers course. Most holes have pin locations that go from being quite accessable to the other extreme of do not shoot at because of all the danger lurking nearby locations. The aprons around the greens are quite large and often work better for bump and run or "texas wedge" shots that lob wedges. The greens are not up to normal Olivas standards, starting to get alot of poa annua. The tees + fairways are top notch, very lush. Sand traps have nice sand and generally well maintained. The native area here is hit and miss, a span of 3 ft. can mean the difference in a lost ball in 2 1/2 ft. of tall, thick grass or a perfect lie on short grass or hardpan.

The greens are still below average (well below average for this course) after the spring punching + sanding. They looked good, no visible holes, but were both furry and bumpy. The traps + tee boxes were immaculate, fairways were above average. Give the greens another week and they should be back to normal. Did see that there was a notice in the pro shop that there will be a moderate green fee increase effective 5/1/10 of between 5% and 10%, depending on when you play.

Played on Thursday afternoon and the course is in good shape. Greens were a little bumpy, but everything else was great. Rough and fairways nice and firm and the sand was nice in the one bunker I was in. First time playing this course and it is a fun track. Will definitly play here again if I am in Ventura.

First time out to Olivas under the new management group. The customer Service was a ++, our group was well taken care of. Greens + Fairways were both above average to well above for a public course, the tees are definitely well above average for a public course. Traps were raked and well maintained, the winter rains have made the waste areas grow up again and they are again penalty stroke waiting to happen if you stray more than a few yards off the fairway.

Had not played here in almost 3 months....miss this course...Its in good condition right now...The winds were strong on the front nine as usual and calmed down on the back. The fairways were green and lush for Olivas standards. Very few bad lies out there. The rough was semi-long and the thick stuff bordering the fairways...well lets just say stay out of it...it cost me four shots today.....love that aspect of this course...it rewards good shots an punishes stray shots. Some of the heavy stuff bordering the faorways is above knee high rough. The greens were slow for my taste...probably running around an 8 on the stimp and showed more signs of poa than I remember last time. By no means were they bad greens...they rolled true and held iron shots nicely. The bunkers are great here...nice white fluffy sand and the tees are always level and are lush at this time. The pins were very tough today which made for a challenge...this course has some teeth to it when it is windy and the pins are tucked away....great golf exprience...go play it.

Played this morning for the first time here and had a great time. Got in early to beat the rush and finished in 4 hours. Very enjoyable, well-kept course. The only negative was that I lost about 5 balls in the rough, which gets really hairy and swallows up golf balls like they are little snacks. If you hit it into the tall stuff you can say goodbye because you are not going to find it. But hey, it is a links-style course and that's part of the difficulty. Altogether one of the best courses that I have played in the area. I most certainly will be back.

Played this afternoon 1/16....first twilight time off....best I have seen Olivas's tees...they were lush and all were level. Sand is in great condition...I was in it 3 times today. Fairways are brown but have just enough cushion underneath them to be playable. Fringes are lush and green. Greens were rolling good and were just a tad slow for Olivas's standards but in overall very good shape. Pace of play was brutal today. Pro-shop staff excellent as was the price for twilight on the weekends($29) to walk. Great practice area....great course.
