Course overall in excellent condition. The greens look immaculate but are medium slow. The fairways have improved to the point I'd now call them excellent overall. The rough is VERY hit and miss, you can have a clear shot and move over 2 ft. and have a lost ball.

Played twilight this afternoon 8/4. This is by far the best shape that I have seen Olivas Links in. The fairways are almost perfect. Green lush grass...huge improvement since last January. The tee boxes are level and the rough has been cut just off the fairway. The bunkers are in great shape. The greens are true and are on the slow side right now. The pace of play was good for Monday. Pro-shop staff nice. Marshall was around to check on pace of play and was on our group several times. Wind was not a factor today and it was humid for Ventura. Really nice day for scoring today. Have to keep commenting that this is a great place to practice(grass range and great chipping green and putting green. Give Olivas a try.

Our 4some walked from the tips in 4:40. Fairways are getting better & better. The greens LOOK fast but aren't nearly as fast as Olivas greens normally have been. Balls actually stay on slopes that usually would release to a flatter portion of the green. Traps & tee boxes are both excellent.

Played twilight this afternoon 7/21. Fairways are in very good shape, lush and green. Some fairway patch work being done on #18. Sand bunkers excellent quality. Rough not to penalizing unless you are in the thick stuff. Tee boxes great shape. The greens seem very slow to me for Olivas and while I had a good putting day the rock seemed to not roll as true and fast as usual. Walked the tips in 4 hours 20 minutes. Temperature just right for golf today. Pro-shop staff very friendly and attentive. Great practice area to warm up.

Played Olivas Links on 7/9 and I’ve got to say, I never thought the fairways from March would be in this great of shape in July. I remember the course staff saying, just wait until the temps heat up and the new fairways finally get a chance to establish. They were dead-on with that call. I seem to enjoy this course more and more after every round. It’s definitely one of my favorites in Ventura County.
Excellent conditions, coastal relaxing settings, mild temps, interesting/fun/challenging holes, great rates, great service, it’s got it all…the only exception is they don’t have a clubhouse yet and still operating out of trailers.

I took some photos of the course while playing. As you will clearly see, this place rocks! Could this course be a future location for a Greenskeeper.org Casual Outing ;)

I consider this my home course and love playing it every time. But, I never thought I would say the fairways are in better shape than the greens. There I said it. Fairways are great. Greens were shaggy and slow. They just went through aeration about 2 months ago and about 2 weeks ago they went through some vertical cutting. They are probably letting the greens grow to recover from the vertical cut. I'm hoping that the greens get back to the way they were two weeks ago as I plan on playing a lot of golf this summer.

Fun layout, lots of variation from hole to hole. It's amazing how much the fairways have improved in the past 90 days, now above average after being mostly dead grass/dirt 3 months previous. The traps are getting better and better amintained, and the tees and fringes are always immaculate. The greens are as smooth as anywhere and are getting back toward firm and fast status. Catch this place on a windy day and it would be challenging for a touring pro.
