Yes - we did have a fun round. I had not played this course prior to this morning, and I have to say that I will certainly play it again!! And I'll be bringing friends! A super track, with some real honest par-fours (especially on the back!) As has been said before, bring your Texas Wedge, because you are going to use it alot!!! There really is no "fringe" around the greens - but huge aprons of tightly-mown grass, making the putting surface HUGE!! Lots of undulations on these aprons - and since the greens do not hold all but the highest, softest shots - you WILL be on some aprons!! The greens were a little sandy still from the aerations - but certainly not the worst I've seen. I actually didn't putt too badly, but you have to think about each putt long and hard before you just whack away at it!! Double-breaking putts are common. My favorite part of the day, (besides playing with JohnnyGK and sassyhacker - two great guys and a lot of fun!): the FAIRWAYS!! Not a bad lie all day!! They are plush, green, and the ball sits up nicely! The rough can be long in spots - so - just don't hit it there!! I would say that the blue tees are best played by 10 handicap players and under - we played from the blue stones - and it was all the golf coure I could handle. Don't let the wide-open fairways and lack of trees fool ya! The back side has all the trouble you need to make your day miserable! Triple bogeys lurk there (and I should know!!) A MUST PLAY FOR ALL IN SO. CAL.!! Worth the drive (50 minutes door-to-door from Eaton Canyon/Pasadena - and certainly worth the $35.00 midweek to walk it!! I can imagine Rustic Canyon being hotter than hell in the later Summer, so drink plenty of water (they have strategically-placed ice cold water coolers about every third hole!!) And (don't tell my wife!) - a really cute/nice beer-cart girl! Bravo, Rustic Canyon!!!

Played the week before father's day. Started playing the round of my life with 2 birdies and an eagle on the front. Is this course easy or am I ready for the mini tour? Really, when you are hitting it long and straight of the tee, the game is a lot easier. Plus, there is a lot of roll up to the greens. I am not a good chipper. On this course, I could use the old Texas wedge.

The back nine is more challenging. Walked the course and was frustrated by a lack of yardage markers. As a newcomer, I was in the dark about what to hit and how far out I was. Additionally, we played with this insufferable woman. She was a fine player, but what a pipe on her. Yackity Yack Yack Yack. Had an opinion on everything and was not bashful about sharing. Can't blame the course.

Pace of play, on this Saturday was slow. Made even slower by having to listen to the pipe.

yep, little holes in the greens. still playable tho. aprons played a little soft yesterday. couldn't chase the ball into the greens as much as you normally can. greens were holding and medium speed which makes this course much easier.

it's very much a player's course. the layout itself is relatively friendly. it gets most of it's teeth from the conditions (very much like scotland in this respect -- watch the british open...when the wind lies down, everybody shoots 65, but when it blows... look out). when rustic plays hard and fast (even without wind) it is a true test. put the ball in the wrong spot and even from 20 yards off it can be difficult to hold the ball on the green. when the course is playing a little softer and the greens are holding, it's time to take revenge for all the times you were made to look like a fool here.

yesterday, playing from the blue tees in favorable conditions, i had four eagle putts on the front nine. i drove the third green and reached all 3 par 5's in 2. sometimes, i go a whole summer without 4 eagle putts. strange game.

Finally played this course on 6/5/03. Great course! I love the layout. Fairways and rough were in excellent shape. Except for a few of the par 3's, the tee boxes were in good shape. The greens were firm and fast. I did see too many ball marks on the greens and the collars of the greens. I felt like I was fixing marks all day. This did not take away from my overall enjoyment of the course. This has got to be the best bargain in Southern California golf.

I love this course. i would choose to play here over any other course in the southland. the greens are now back -- no aeration visible, but not lightning fast yet. the course firming up in generally. starting to play as it was designed to play. brings back memories of scotland. strategic drives that enable you to run the ball into the green from the best angle. great fun!

What a fun course. You'll lose some golf balls if you let your ego get the best of you- and no doubt the greens will test your putting game, but an absolute steal price-wise and a great staff!

Played this morning at 6 am... first ones off. First off is great, except you have to play with the groundscrew mowing and watering around you the whole time. Lots of sprinklers going today, all the way around.

Rustic is in it's usual great shape, with a couple of exceptions. The fairways are starting to show a little wear, expecially in the main landing areas, and worse are some of the greens. It's amazing to me that people that play this course just can't seem to get the whole "fix your ballmark" thing. If you landed on the green (or in the big fringes), you made a ball mark. Find it. If you can't find it, fix someone else's!

As usual though, I highly recommend this course. The more I play it the better I like it.
