played today 12-22. Morning was so cold and windy, the starter gave us twilight rate. It was so windy, i hit my drive pin high on the 440 yard par 4 14th. Hole 13 par 5 played like it was 700 yards. 30-40 mph winds straight in our face. Still had a fun time though. Greens are in good shape with decent speed on them, but the rest of the course is dormant. Played the round in less than 4 hours walking. The wind and cold must of scared some people away.

I seem to get stuck behind the same people on the golf course as I do on the freeway - the ones who drive at 60 in the fast lane and can't figure out why there's a bevy of irate drivers behind them. Speed up or move over - it's that simple. Played as a single behind three who were supposed to wait for me (but didn't) then proceeded to act harried and rushed for 9 holes as I played close behind - let me join you or let me through - it's that simple!

Course was playing tougher today as there was a 20-30 yard wind at times for 13 holes (which was out of the north - it turned around to a more typical direction towards the end). Course had some teeth especially 5,9,10,11,13 (you know the ones! - especially #11 which was a bear). On the other hand, 1,2,3 and 14,16,18 were very score-able with shorter irons in on all of them and #3 easily driveable.

Course was in decent shape, but quite dry and thin in the fairways which also had somewhat extensive sanded areas. Greens were quite a bit slower than last week although still quite tough if you are above the hole. A few bumps but generally tracking well (fix ball marks please!). A number of greens on the back nine were lightly dressed but no big deal. 24 bucks walking around noon - it's been said a million times but for the money it's the best golf for miles around (slow pokes aside!).

Played Sunday afternoon with the Meetup.com/LAGolfGroup league. Three groups out at 11:00 a.m. finishing in about 5 1/2 hours. Everything was firm and fast. Severe ball marks on most of the approaches, but who is going to fix a ball mark off the green? Overall, the course is in great condition, except for most of the traps, which lacked any decent sand. Not my favorite course due to the fact the "mid day rate" is $69 with a small bucket of range balls.

Played twilight at 12 noon as a single this afternoon....all I can say is wow...what a treat these greens are...they are running at least at a 12 stimp and are just pure and perfect....easily some of the quickest greens that I have putted on this year. Holding shots and approaches from the fairway with spin...If you are above the hole forget it....witnessed an almost 5 putt today by one of my playing partners....fairways are running forever and are firm and thin.....we hit two balls in our group today on #2 that were just sick....I had 100yds in on the 2nd hole and my playing partner had 115 in...expect a lot of roll and some tighter lies. Tee boxes are level and some are thin while others are lush...pace of play was just over 4 hours walking, was in one bunker and it was firm. Staff very nice and professional and for 24 bucks waking a great deal.....Rustic is at this time back to its firm conditions...can't wait to putt these greens again soon.

Played on Halloween mid day as the 2nd group off after a ladies tournament. The course was already backed up, however the group in front of us was truly priceless.

I would suspect they were two couples of 60ish tourists from the far east. This could have been a clinic on bad etiquette and slow play. It was bad enough they played multiple sets of tees and no one was willing to walk 10 yards to the next set of tees. Seemingly no one was ever ready to play their next shot. Everyone sat in the cart and watched the others tee shots, then after that person watched the ball come to a rest (often less than 100 yards away), they would put their club up and both carts would proceed to the next tee. They usually followed the same pattern in the fairways. I guess they thought the rakes were mere ornaments around the sand traps, because the times I saw any of them in a bunker, they left a trail of footprints in and out every time.

But the best was yet to come. Since they were enjoying their golf experience so much, by the back nine they were posing for individual and group pictures beside the flag after putting out on several greens? And most amazingly, they pretty much kept pace with the group in front of THEM, the last group of the ladies tournament, so playing through was not much of an option.

The course was in good to excellent shape in all areas, but a 5 and 1/2 hour round on a Monday afternoon is ridiculous.

Rustic Canyon was in great shape today 10/24...teed off at 11:10am...beautiful greens(almost back to normal Rustic's quick standards), tees level and lush, fairways lush and in good shape and lush rough. Stay away from bunkers at all costs...#15(left bunker) ruined a good scoring round for me today. Staff very nice inside restaurant and pro-shop. Back nine will give you a challenge here on #14, #15 and #16 as well as #6 and #7 on the front....I would recommend playing here right now due to the great conditions....have fun!!

Beautiful day with very little wind, walked in slightly less than 5 hours, only waited on a few holes. The greens were rolling better than last week, almost totally back to normal after early September aeration. The fairways and tees are very lush, a few areas with many divots, but very nice overall. The rough is moist and thick, which is bad if your ball nestles down in it but can be a good thing when it keeps errant shots within the course.

If you are frugal golfer, no range balls, and walk this course; then you get a good deal. Also, if you get a beer here (you'll need one after your round here)..16 oz is $4..go for 24 oz..it's only $1 more @ $5.

Greens were in good shape...a tad slow (maybe because of weather 64 degrees today and overcast, undulations make these greens very tough to approach on and putt on. Fairway and rough are in great shape. Sand is never that great. The wind was not bad today...so pleasant day to play.

First time out @ Rustic this year. This is probably one of the lowest overall GK ratings I have ever given Rustic, and that is because the greens are still fuzzy & bumpy from the aeration last month. Very good, but not great because of that.

However, their greens are getting there, but still probably 7-10 days away from being their normal fast/firm. The rest of the course was it's usual ++, tees, fringes and fairways were as good as you will find almost anywhere. The rough was thick and seems to have filled in many of the bare areas I remember from a few years back. Many of the traps are thin & rocky by design, so beware of them.

All the red staked laterals & forced carries can make this course a nightmare if you cannot get it up in the air and keep it relatively straight. However, it's beauty and uniqueness would still make most players enjoy shooting a higher than average score on a bad day.
