course was in best condition, that i've seen for a while, although greens were quite hard,but surprisingly, somewhat slow. this made it play like a real links course, no target golf here. bump and run is name of the game, also made club selection very important.
overall a great day of thinking mans golf !

I'll leave the course conditions to previous posters - they have a pretty good beat on that and I would agree with much of it.

What I will add is that the course is rounded into optimum conditions right now, in my opinion. In other words, it is playing close to how it was designed to be played - firm and fast. With good roll throughout, this is not a course you can just fire away at pins on. Instead, all the fun is in using your imagination, especially from 100 yards and in. This is the part of the course that is really playing to expectations right now.

As an example of that, the greens are firming up so unless you can hit it high with a lot of spin it is going to release. So on long approaches or from elevation, think it through.

Also, the aprons were just immaculate today. They were relatively free of pitch-marks and were shaved within a whisper of the length of the greens - so you had to putt from 100+ feet at times.

Great stuff - I recommend it if your local tree-lined muni is looking a little pale these days.

Not many changes from last Monday when I played here. Today 4/2 played with 3 buddies from blue tees. Pace at 5 hours 25 minutes with a ton of golfers on the course. Conditions still awesome on the fairways, tees, rough and for the most part the greens. Fairways semi lush with good roll. Tees level and lush, rough thick in places up to 2-3 inches. Greens firmer than last Monday still seemed to roll slower than usual but in good shape. Sand areas hard packed depending on the bunker you are in. Wind would stop today and then pick up but really good scoring conditions. Pro-shop staff very nice and great twilight deal on the weekday. Will be playing here some more until they punch the greens on 4/30.

Played today @ 1:10 pm. Twilight greens fees start at 1 pm. It changes to 2 pm in April. Take advantage now. Very busy course today due to probably.. The Tiger effect.... Had a nice lunch at clubhouse...the cook gave us extra onion rings! Green were a little slow b/c of the rain last night but in great shape and rolled true. The pin placements were brutal on some of the holes today including the par 3 (8th) and also the par 4 (11 and 12) and 13 (par 5). Last time we played here and it was pouring and the course drained quickly and efficiently. Today was no different, no standing water...and no damp spots. Fairways, tee boxes and rough were lush and beautiful weather today. The wind was calm today..and made for a great day out. Finish in about 4.5 hours. I brought two newbies to the course and they liked the course!

Played twilight this afternoon 3/26 at 1:15pm with Bigswede and my buddy Steve. Rustic drained very nicely from the rain the last few days. The fairways were in great shape. They are really lush right now for Rustic's standards with very few hardpan areas and some really great lies. The tees were very lush and almost all of them were level and good shape. The greens looked beautiful to the eye and were slower today due to the rain. You will still get a semi-nice roll but they are not the quick winter greens that Rustic can present. The waste and sand areas were compact with wet sand but no standing water. Pace of play was 4 hours 30 minutes today with a ton of golfers coming out in the afternoon. The wind was not too strong today but it would swirl in different directions. Staff very friendly and for $24.00 walking at twilight its the best deal around in Ventura County.

Greens fee were super cheap. 22$ twilight. Got stuck behind a high school tournament and barely finished in 5 1/2 to beat darkness. Greens were nice med/fast pace. Started to get a little bumpy as the day went on but this is expected. Fairways were nice and always had a great lie. Overall, very good conditions. I really enjoy this golf course, one of my favorites in-between LA and SB. I try to play this track every time I head back to UCSB. Love the style of greens too. I will be back!

Played this morning 3/19/12 at 7:40am. Chilly but calm and once the Sun came over the hills very calm and enjoyable. Our fore some became a twosome so pace was like a stroll in the park. The course in good shape and even in the baranca areas you couldn't even tell it had rained over the weekend. I always enjoy this course, one of the best deals in Southern Cal. Still, always tough to read the subtleties in these greens.

Out today 2/27/12 for 1st twilight time. For sure not a day for the "fair weather" golf fan....it was freezing out there today...25-30mph gusts and some light sprinkles. Teed off just before noon today with Bigswede and a buddy. We played the course in around 4 hours. Staff very professional and friendly. Rustic's tees, fairways and rough is all rounding into great shape. The rough is lush and anywhere from 2-3 inches thick bordering several fairways. Fairways were greener and lusher than the last time out. Our group was real disappointed with the speed and bumpiness of the greens today. Looks like they had a thin layer of top dressing and seed and there was a ton of grain putting wise. Greens are very slow at this time for Rustic's standards and I am sure that they are getting ready for some scheduled spring maintenance possibly? Nice sand added in several bunkers makes bunker play out here a little easier. Great challenges on #6 and #7 as well as #15 and #16......can't wait for the greens to return to their quick pace.
