Rustic is playing just great. Aeration with small holes begins tomorrow 6/5 and after a couple weeks they should be back to great condition. Today they were very firm and medium fast. The fairways are in excellent condition and running nicely, and where the rough is up, which is most places, it is thick, lush, and downright penal in places. Always a great value, and the pace today was not too too slow for a Sunday morning. Enjoy Rustic - the conditions figure to be great through the summer.

Teed off early this afternoon. The last time I played here was shortly after the course re-opened the full 18 holes last summer. This still is one of my favorite courses in SoCal because of the strategy that's builit into the architecture and because none of the holes are tricked up. The green contours are among the most severe of the public courses in SoCal. The course is in pretty good shape; the fairways are tight, as are the chipping areas. I also really like the staff here - very friendly people. It was a good, fun round and we got done in about 4:20 as a foursome. One complaint though: the greens. When this course first opened, the greens were smooth, and very, very quick. I don't know what's happened, but now some are fast, some not so fast, and a lot of them are fairly bumpy. Severe contours + bumpy greens...not a good combination. I hope these greens get better, because right now, it's hard to say that it's a fair test. My playing partner hit 12/14 fairways and had about 8 GIRs, but it was hard to score because the greens were so inconsistent.

Wonderful course. We played the day after the hard rains. No puddles or even wet ground. The tee boxes needed mowing. With increased play at the course they need to hire marshals. Even though pace is pretty quick, few things are more frustrating than to be stuck behind a really slow group with 2+ holes open in front. The greens were some of the best in the area for a public course. Since the aerating in March, they keep doing something else almost every week to the green and fringe areas. Hard to depend on how the course will play from week to week.

Fairways were in excellent condition. Rough seemed to be longer than in recent memory, but it was also in great shape. However, the greens and the collars were a bit frustrating because there was no consistency from one to another. Some collars were firm (like normal), while others were soft. Greens were the same and some were a bit on the furry side as well. I still love the course, but here's hoping the greens and collars are in better shape the next time I play here.

Course is in good shape. Playing long right now, very little roll, all carry. Greens were a little bumpy and somewhat slow but this is probably the best value anywhere near LA. Took almost 5 1/2 hrs on Saturday. Nobody in the pro shop seemed to care and I was told they have no hired Marshalls. The big problem weas really just the group in front of us. For everyone reading this. Please stop marking all your 18 inch putts. Even the pros putt out unless it is the last hole and all the money is on the line. Your 5 dollar nassau is not a good excuse to hold everyone up.

Greens were slower than normal, but course is in great shape. Glad 3putt wants to stay away, more times for the rest of us. Part of the links style courses play is estimating yardages visually from reference markers on the side of the fairways. FYI there are no yardage markers in the fairways on the Old Course.....

Played for the first time on 5/10. This course is a gem; challenging, in great shape, and very unique. The greens were tricky to read and very firm, and it took me quite a while to get used to the large collars surrounding all the greens. Can't wait to get back out there!

Very unfriendly to walkers. Severely lacking in yardage markers in the fairway. It would take a gun or a $25 greens fee to get me back.

Played the course on 4-24-06. The greens had been aerated a few weeks earlier so were a little bumpy but not bad. First time playing the course and really enjoyed the layout. The back nine seemed more difficult than the front nine ( more opportunities to get into trouble). Be careful which tees you play. There was a big difference from the whites to the blues. We played the blues and several par 4 holes on the back nine we could not reach in two. We walked and used their push carts which are very good 3 wheel carts. I will definitely play this course again.
