I have played this course a couple of times and in all honesty it is a bit too "quirky" for me. From the tee boxes and up the fairways all is well, but when you get to these rather peculiar greens and surrounding areas you just lose me. I understand the "British Open" style and what they are going for...don't mistake me. The bottom line is that many of the areas adjacent to the greens IN THE FAIRWAY are rock hard pan that you cannot chip off of, and I don't think a putter was ever meant to be used at 35 yards like I see a lot of people doing routinely on this course.
Add to this the pin placements and greens that are in some sense like the old minature golf courses. Strange hilly mounds and valleys with pin placemnts so weird that I heard a single digit handicapper I was paired with refer to one hole as "like the old volcano hole at the mini golf courses I played as a kid."
I should have been suspicious when on the course website it said, "You'll enjoy this course more with repeat playing". I see why frequent players might enjoy the course and its oddities, but for someone like myself who plays other top courses in the area, I prefer a course that is a fair challenge every time out-you don't need to play 10 times to get the "hang of it".

Outstanding Value! A challenging track from the back tees. Due to layout and protected areas, walking is a must on some holes. This is a good thing for the golfer as well as the course. Staff is friendly and helpful. Overall, Rustic Canyon is a great golf outing in a beautiful setting.

Played 12-26, why can't all golf courses be in this great shape. They charged regular rates on a holiday, $35 to walk what a steal. Level Tee boxes, lush fairways and smooth rolling greens. Pace of play was a bit slow for a 8:30 tee time, we finished in 4 hrs 45 minuntes.

It's playing really nicely - greens firm, fairways perfect considering the season, and I happen to really like the rustic quality of the bunkers and sandy waste areas. They're HAZARDS, they're not supposed to be perfectly-groomed sandboxes that offer no added difficulty. Pace of play remains problematic here, more in my view because of the thoughtlessness and discourtesy of the players than for any other reason.

On another note, I carry several of these small, two-pronged, fork-like objects which I use on every green to repair pitch marks. These are very handy tools known as "divot repair" or "ball-mark repair" tools, and they're available in most pro shops, sometimes even for free. You might suggest that your friends pick some of these handy tools up, and train them in their proper use! :-)

Only the pace of play at time is my only down fall of this above average golf course, So many ways to play every hole that no matter how many time you play it will be diffrent for sure,and it's in my back yard, I'll come back over and over until Tucker can out drive me on the course and not a K-mart parking lot! 8.5 out of 10
