Played Sunday morning 11/20 and got around in a little under 5 hours. Front 9 played a little slow, but things picked up to a very enjoyable pace on the back nine. I am not sure why I like playing RC so much...never score very well. BUT, the course is always in great shape, very appealing to the eyes, always a tough tee time to get. Played with at least a two club wind Sunday morning.

Played here on Sunday 11/13. I didn't have a time but got out at 7:20. The course is as good as I have seen it. The fairways were cut perfectly to give you some roll out on your drives. The greens are just fabulous. You must be true to your read and speed though or you will miss. Remember, here all putts break towards "Ronnie Rayguns" library. I wish more people would replace their divots in the fairways, as I take several bottles of sand with me and could use all of them on any par 4 or 5. If you can walk this course, you should as it is a very walkable course. I hope to see the rates reduced, as I think they would get more revenue and then could improve even more of the damage caused by the Big Rain, i.e. rebuild bridges, etc....All said tho...great course for the money.....

Played nov.8 in the morning. I had never played this course, but had heard many good things about it from others. All of the good things I heard about were true. The layout is fantastic with several good risk/rewards holes. The greens had been seeded and recently and punched a little while back, but even the sand pebbles on the greens did not affect the roll of the ball. The greens were fast and firm. I put a good amount of spin on the ball and I was getting a little bit of release on the greens. Some of my partners who do not spin the ball that much had trouble keeping the ball on the green. The traps were a little bare, and we were constantly fighting off the grounds crew, but other than that, the course was in fantastic shape and is worth the money. This course looks very similar to the course that held the President's Cup in Australia several years back (2000 I think). It is a links-style course in that it's pretty wide open, but it also has some target golf aspects as well, such as forced carries. There are also a lot of waste areas. This is a difficult course to walk because you cannot walk in a straight line to the fairways in every instance. A couple of my playing partners were dead by the end of the round. Also, there are no signs on the tee boxes and no maps on the scorecard, so since it was our first time playing here, it was difficult knowing where the next hole was on a few occasions. This course's layout is not very intuitive. We ended up doing a lot of walking. The most interesting aspect of this course was the tightly mowed chipping areas around the greens. The grass surrounding the greens was so short, it was difficult to tell where the greens began or ended. This course also has very undulating terrain around the greens, so this made for some fun and challenging chip shots. Leave your flop shot at home and bring your bump and run.

For more accurate yardage, I would use the Greenskeeper (GK) website’s scorecard for the Rustic Canyon (RC) GC. When you compare GK’s scorecard with the RC golf course’s “official” scorecard there are 10 tees that have a difference of more than 20 yards. Need proof that Greenskeeper’s scorecard is more accurate? On the Rustic Canyon’s 10th tee, the yardage between the black and blue tee physically measures out to be 28 yards, which agrees with the GK’s website scorecard. The Rustic Canyon “official” scorecard indicates the difference between the 10th tee's black and blue tee markers is only 7 yards. This is a 21 yard error. I checked 5 other tee yardages and found the Greenskeeper’s scorecard to be correct and the Rustic Canyon “official” scorecard to be incorrect by more than 20 yards. The Rustic Canyon GC management was notified of their “official” scorecard yardage errors on 9/12/05.

Sorry to hear about that other guy who got miffed about the mock shirt/collared shirt deal, but I was impressed with the guys in the pro shop. Very professional. Just wish this place wasn't so far for me. I'd be here every day. Great golf experience. And kudo's to the head greenskeeper and crew. The place is phenomonal. Did I spell that right?? phenom......oh who cares!!!!!!!! AWESOME then!!

The course is really rounding back into shape... I think it is very playable once again.. Sometimes I just love the "imaginative" pin placements...Worth the price anytime....

conditions are great. Nice and manicured. Greens are too slow right now. Tee boxes are currently aerated, but still ok. Love the change they did with the course after the rains.
